I've known people who must read the Lord of the Rings trilogy every single year during the summer. There are others who read certain children's books or appropriate novels for the holiday seasons. I've never felt compelled to make a tradition out of reading a particular book, but now I'm curious...

Is there a particular book you read on a certain day or during a certain time of the year?

Are there poems that you read instead?

Or maybe there is a book that you have passed down to others to have them read, creating a tradition in a group or family?

My father reads "A Visit from St. Nicholas" to his grandchildren every Christmas Eve.

I know I keep The Tao of Pooh handy to read when I'm really stressed out and need to get my head straight.

I can't say that I have any book traditions as such, although we do read The Night Before Chrsitmas on Christmas Eve.

(Until recently that was more of a chore for me - but now my brother insists on it so he can have some fun with it. This past Christmas he read it with a thick Scottish accent - and Santa's belly shook "like a bowl full of haggis" lol )

I have several books that I have read many times over, if a certain mood takes me. But I think that is more like a "craving" rather than a tradition.

Nope... no traditions for me. I read when the mood strikes... which is nearly always.

My family's traditional yuletide reading includes reading "Twas the Night Before Christmas" and another poem called "I like Christmas" aloud on Christmas Eve. My personal Christmas book tradition is to re-read A Christmas Carol every year. I love that book.

Aside from that, my only 'tradition' is to go through a summer reading list. I never make it all the way through, though. So many books, so little time ...

Hm, interesting... it seems people in here mostly reread things around holidays.

Sadly, I'm not one to have any sort of book tradition... I should start having one, though, with one that I really love.

I read The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton every summer. Actually, I read it more often than every summer but I make sure to read it at least once during summer time.

Every year since I was twelve I have read every book in the Valdemar world of Mercedes Lackey (that's something like 30+ books) because I am addicted to that world. Unfortunately it has been a while since any new ones came out so I'm stuck rereading the same books to satisfy this addiction...

I also read Island of the Blue Dolphins and My Side of the Mountain every summer.

Don't have any cool book traditions but maybe I should start one... that'd be pretty cool...

I reread "The Prophecy of the Stones" by Flavia Bonjour every 2 or 3 years to celebrate it for getting me into reading. ^-^

Hmmm, my dad reads the Hobbit every year, I have a feeling that it's because it's one of the only books he's voluntarily read EVER...but I don't know about me...I guess my tradition would have to be reading The Blue Sword every June around my birthday because it's the book that really opened my eyes to the adventure of reading. Before then I just did it because I was good at it, not because I got anything out of it.
