"While I know my chronicles will be read by Escarans, I feel I should still note what we are. I shall do that here, however redundant it may seem.

Escarans are winged elves with long life even by Elven standards. The race are considered adults at age 200, depending on the particular Escaran's occupation. They usually have mirror-like wings, blond, silver, or even gold hair, and blue eyes. They are more organized and orderly socially and architecturally than most elves, and build elaborate, beautiful cities of massive proportions that still maintain the grace of the elves. They speak their own form of Elven that focuses on sounds rather than letters or even characters. The sound "Sil" could mean shine, or it could be an alternate way of saying "Sar," meaning starlight for example. The basic Escaran writing is designed, like the language, to communicate through emotion created by the sounds, and uses syllabetic characters. Like Japanese, however, it can incoorperate characters that are more elaborate and are considered more intellectual.

The society of the Escarans is one designed around various ruling families, or Houses. Those who live in the area controlled by these Houses add the words "de" or "ze" and then the ruling House's name. This helps to keep track of which John Smith lives in which area. There are 124 ruling Houses. To try to settle conflicts peacefully between ruling groups, the Escarans organized a High Council. Despite the fact there are 124 Houses, the majority of Houses join into various alliances. There are 12 alliances, and three independent Houses. Despite the fact there are twelve alliances, they usually support one of the two dominant Alliances or one of the independent Houses. Lionia and the Delenian Alliance are the most powerful of the Alliances, though all of the Houses respect the independent House Aurelia above all others. Lionia consists of Houses Lyrea and Orion. The independent House Ryuujima usually sides with them, though refuses to join any alliance. Lionia favors liberty, honor, and justice above all else. Much of the great deeds in Escaran history were preformed by those of this Alliance. The Delenian Alliance prefers order, equality, and prosperity, though often promotes these through controversial methods."
