Happy Resurrection day!
PostPosted: Sun Apr 12, 2009 9:22 am

The poll whore option made me laugh. I was going to post a sermon/rant today, but I don't have time before church. I'll post it when I get back... you okay if I use this thread for it?

Oh, and happy resurection day. The media seems to have dubbed it bunny-and-chocolate-day.

I don't mind at all.

Because the media has no interest in truth.

Good. It is in relation to Easter. Or, Resurection Day. They're the same thing. Might I ask your reasons for not calling it Easter? Wasn't that name made up by Christians?

Yeah... I noticed that. They seem to have covered up the EU's new I-want-to-invade-your-privacy venture pretty well.

Yes, but he was still the money-handler. He probably had gold at some point.

Instead of writing it out again, I'll quote what I said on another forum:

Spike Zantren
Easter comes from the story of Semiramis, a pagan 'goddess' of fertility that was the wife of Nimrod, the grandson of Noah. The pagans who worshipped her would have sexual rituals as a tribute to their goddess. "In other cultures, she has been called Ishtar, Ashtur and yes, Easter. Because of their prolific nature, rabbits have long been associated with fertility and its goddess, Ishtar. Ancient Babylonians believed in a fable about an egg that fell into the Euphrates River from heaven and from which Queen Astarte (another name for Ishtar or Semiramis) was "hatched.""[1]

Rabbits have nothing to do with the Jewish holiday of Passover, the time Christ died (hence why He is named 'The Passover Lamb'), and the Resurrection of Christ. "As the Gospel of Christ spread throughout non-jewish nations, among people who did not have a history of celebrating the Passover, the pagan rites of Easter gradually became assimilated into what the Christian church called "Resurrection Day." Compromising the commandments of God with the comfort of the world is as old as the nation of Israel itself. Actually, American history teaches us that Easter was dismissed as a pagan holiday by the nation's founding Puritans and did not begin to be widely observed until just after the Civil War."[1] Easter is painted to be a Christian holiday, but Easter itself is a pagan holiday, contrary what most people are told on the news and in school. He didn't die on Good Friday, either. The death of Christ is not about bunnies, and Easter is not a Christian holiday.

You can tell they're covering something up when they report on only one thing for an entire day. Elections are the perfect times to start covering things up, too.

Okay then. Here comes the rant thingy. So yeah, I was gonna put this in its own thread, but we only really need one Resurection Day thread.

So. Easter is about new life whichever way you look at it. If you haven't even thought about Jesus, you will have had Gaia ramming the "Easter iz about bunniezz an eggz an chikinz" crap down your throat. If you have thought about Jesus, (which, this being a Christian guild, you probably have) then you'll have thought about His new life. Except for that new life, He had to die.

So, for new life to begin in you, you have to die. Not physical death, but death to yourself. You have to ignore what you want, because what you want honestly doesn't matter. We're supposed to live like Jesus. ("Whoever claims to live in Him must walk as Jesus did." - 1 John 2:6). But how did Jesus live? Well, He put God's will over His own. ("Not My will, but Yours be done" - Luke 22:42). So we should do the same, should we not? Just remember, this whole thing is bigger than you. God's plan is bigger than you, but it is a plan "to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future." (Jeremiah 29:11)

Well then, this is a challenge for you. Live as Jesus did and put God's will over your own. Maybe you could even write out that verse ("Not My will, but Yours be done") in your favourite version and put it in your pocket, to keep reminding yourself. I'm sorry if it seems like I'm telling you all how to live, but I'm not. The Bible is. And just remember: God's plan, which you should submit to is for your own good.

Amen to that.

But Jesus' death is just another great example of God's amazing storytelling ability. He just connects so many dots, no one could've made this up. I mean, here we have Jesus, an innocent man, being tried before Pilate. Pilate knows Jesus hasn't done anything, but fears if he doesn't listen to the people, they may start a riot. Pilate is already on thin ice at this point with his superiors because of previous proplems with revolts, and so out of fear for his job he listens to the Jewish leaders' wishes to have him arrested. Now it's passover time, and traditionally one prisoner gets to be set free. This year the "get out of jail free" card will either go to Jesus or Barabbas. Pilate, who knows Jesus is innocent, tries to convince the people to pick him, but they will not hear of it, and cry for Barabbas to be released instead. Does anyone know what the name Barabbas means? Son of the father. We are all God's sons and daughters, so Barabbas' name shows he represents all of us. But that's not all. Earlier, James and John's mother asked Jesus if her sons could be at His right and left when Jesus came into His kingdom. He warned her, saying she didn't know what she was asking. Who was at His right and left when He came into His kingdom? Two criminals, hanging on crosses, about to die, just as He was. It always seems the more I look, the more I find that it all comes together; everything that is said ties to something else.

I know, right? I bet you couldn't stick 10 of the greatest writers in history in that room and have them come up with something better.

Hmm. Ted Dekker maybe, but he had something amazing to work from, so he doesn't really count.
