Finally! After H'dek had given Bondeyeth as much oiling and scratching as the little bronze could handle, the dragon had drifted off to sleep. The demanding little beast didn't really see why His needed to go eat, not while he still had itches and scratches and little flakey spots. H'dek had conceded, Bondyeth should be growing, right? So his hide needed to be taken care of properly and- Thank Farnath that was finally over.

Stumbling out of the barracks as quickly as possible, H'dek rather hoped it was okay to leave his dragon alone for a few minutes, especially while he was just napping. He just needed to grab a few meatrolls, or a sandwhich, or even a piece of fruit and he would be okay and- The young bronzerider collided with whomever was in front of him, never even seeing the other person in his mad dash for the kitchen. "I-I'm sorry, sir!" the rider muttered, trying to disentangle himself and get back to his feet. "Dun' weren't lookin' where I was headed!"

Kiriwar had been heading out from cleaning himself up a bit, just having finishing shaving and making sure his hair was it's normal, untamable and curly self, when he was abruptly and alarmingly attacked. Well, perhaps not attacked, but he was certainly taken by surprise when another person crashed into him nearly head-on, leaving him staggering and windmilling to keep from collapsing in a heap.

When he spoke, though, it was all forgiven. Kiriwar lifted his head to grin at the other, laughing softly. "Not a problem, not a problem. You just caught me by surprise," he said, dusting himself off a bit and reaching out to put his hands on the other's shoulders. "You're all right, though, yes? We hit rather hard. What's the rush?"

How did he always mange to fall over every time he ran into someone? They never did. It was always him. H'dek couldn't help but wonder if he had terrible balance, or something. Pulling himself to his feet as quickly as he could, he brushed his pants off before facing the man he had hurled himself into. "Ahh, yes. Bondyeth is sleepin' right now an' I wanted t get some'in' to eat n' get back." His sheepish look became one of pure humiliation when he realized this young man probably had no idea who his Bondyeth was.

H'dek offered a hand and cleared his throat. "M'H'dek. And Bondyeth is my bronze. Hatchling," he explained, grinning despite his mortification. "And yourself? You're sure I didn't hit you too hard? I wan't lookin' where I was goin' t'all."

What his father would say, to see him bumbling into everyone now that he'd Impressed.

Kiriwar looked the boy over in concern, finding his manners of speech to be rather... adorable, if a touch hard to understand. He smiled warmly and reached out to take the other's hand, shaking it firmly. "I'm Kiriwar. A pleasure, H'dek, and don't worry, I'm all right. I'm made of tough stuff."

He flashed a grin, before fishing into the bag he carried with him, drawing out a few wrapped up meatrolls. "If you want to get back to your dragon, I can give you this. I have no issue with going back for more. I have a few piece of fruit, too... I can imagine caring for a dragon must be difficult."

"Oh, no, I couldn' accept that. S'right kind of ya, but I could'n. Not after the way I jus' barreled into y'all." H'dek looked at Kiriwar's bag, trying to assess any damage he may have done. "It's fine. Oh, difficult?" The rider chuckled nervously and rubbed his neckerchief. "Yeah. Yeah, Bondyeth is really demanding. Much more so than anythin' in the Vintnercraft Hall."

H'dek offered Kiriwar a grin. "So, you're a candidate, yah? Where do y'all hail from?" he asked. He'd learned very quickly that the Weyr took everyone from all walks of life; have the dragons a better choice, he supposed. "Y'all been here long? I got here righ' before th' last Hatching, jus' in time t' stand. Din' meet much a' anyone."

"Please, it's perfectly all right. I would hate for you to have to be kept away," said Kiriwar with a chuckle, shrugging a little. When H'dek refused, he tucked the food away again, before lifting his eyebrows with a curious expression when he mentioned that he had apparently come from the Vintner craft.

"I am, yes," he replied with a returned grin, nodding his head once. "I came from a little place near Benden. Also from the Vintner craft, myself, I noticed you said that... I haven't been here long, unfortunately, but I'm hoping to stand in at the next Hatching."

"Benden!" The teenager almost shrieked with glee. He heard hadn't hide nor hair about Benden since he'd left the place. (It made sense, most the kids Searched around his Hold were taken to Benden Weyr, after all.) "I'm from Benden, too! Born n' raised, worked in th' Hall soon as I was old enough!" he babbled, pushing sandy blond hair away from his face.

It was almost like finding a new best friend. Smiling softly, H'dek turned towards the dining hall and motioned for Kiriwar to follow him. "I gotta keep movin', dun wan' Bondyeth wakin' up all by 'imself, bu' I wanna keep talkin' wi' ya!" A thoughtful pause. "You do think Benden wine is the vury best there is, righ'?" There was absolutely no question in H'dek's mind; he was a wine snob in every sense.

Kiriwar was surprised when he was invited to move along with H'dek, but moved immediately after him, following him towards the Dining Hall with a laugh. "I don't mind following you -- it's my favorite place. And yes, I do. My father grew up in Benden, but moved to work at a smaller place to improve the wine there. And I learned from him. Our wines' just as good as Benden's."

A grin appeared on his lips at that, his pride obvious and settled, while he walked along with H'dek. "I should have you try some of my wine, sometime. I brought some with me, and Da sends me some every now and then... I'm a Taster. I know good wine."

H'dek couldn't help but snort a little. As if there was wine as good as Benden's! But he kept the little quip to himself and glanced back at Kiriwar, raising his eyebrows. "I'll see ifin I can ge' my Pa to send me somethin' an' we can see who's the best," he replied, giving the candidate a playful shove. He knew, without a doubt, Benden wine was the best, but he didn't mind an opportunity to show it off, either.

H'dek halted once they reached the kitchen. What did he want for lunch? "Wha' was good t'day, Kiriwar?" He had already eaten, right? And he should know, especially if it was his favorite place. "Hey, y'think our father's knew each other?" he wondered, helping himself to a meatroll while he waited for the candidate's assessment of today's lunch. "I mean, my Pa was there s'whole life. Gran'father, too."

Kiriwar gave H'dek a look when he snorted, but he didn't say anything. He just grinned when he was shoved, leaning against the other boy in just as much play and laughing. "Yeah, yeah, we'll see. I make good wine, I can promise you, and my Da makes wine even better. We're not better than Benden, but we're basically the same. My Da is from Benden, so it's the same make."

He paused with H'dek, looking around the kitchen and humming softly. "Hn... The meatrolls are nice and juicy today, as I'm sure you see, and they have some fantastic soup today, so I'd go for those," he said after a moment, nodding once, before looking at the other curiously. "Mm, they might. My Da grew up, so they might've known each other until they moved. He's Warran of Benden, so, I dunno if you know the name."

{It's up to you if he knows his dad or not. x3 I imagine Kiriwar's dad was pretty well known-ish -- he makes good wine and grew up in Benden. If you wanted, we could even make their fathers good friends? 8D}

"Plen'y a' people CLAIM they are as good as Benden, bu' th' fact a' th' matter is, very few people ARE as good as Benden," H'dek replied, getting himself a plate and helping himself to the acclaimed meatrolls. It was better to stock up now, so he'd have something to nibble on the for the rest of the afternoon, though the chances of them lasting long enough for a mid-afternoon snack was very slim. "Actually," he drawled, "no one s'good as Benden. S'why it's so special, y'know?"

H'dek winked and bit into one of the rolls, humming happily to himself when he realized it was every bit as delicious as the candidate had described. Oh, yes. "Hey, dun y'all have some chores t'git to, 'er somethin'?" he teased, raising an eyebrow. "Worked us straight 'til it was time t' go t' bed, ifin I recall correctly."

"I can assure you -- we learned Benden way, and we are just as good," said Kiriwar, giving his companion a look and grinning playfully, before moving to get himself something to eat as well. it was nice to meet someone who knew about wine as he did, someone he could talk with so easily, potentially about home.

"Ah, yeah. I definitely do. Sorta avoidin' them right now, but I gotta head down to the cellar to clean up in a bit," he said, picking up one of his own meatrolls and scarfing it down quickly, making a happy sound of satisfaction. "Delicious. But, yeah, I gotta go soon."

"Well, wouln' want t' be gettin' ya in trouble," H'dek chuckled, finishing the meatroll he'd started before helping himself to a second, and a third. He never really realized how empty his stomach was until he started to fill it back up. Even good company couldn't distract him from the task at hand; now that he thought about it, he wondered if Bondyeth could even keep him away from his-

As if he knew he was being thought of, the small bronze began to stir.

H'dek nearly choked on his meatroll, coughing and spluttering as the unchewed portion of his lunch forced its way down. "I, I gotta run. S'gettin' up. Don' wan' Bondyeth freakin' out, 'er something." That would be positively horrible, he would get in so much trouble. Not to mention his dragon was likely to destroy something, oh shells, shards, any other curse he could think of.

"Was nice meetin' ya! We'll have to trade wine something!"

Kiriwar laughed when H'dek started, patting the other boy on the back and trying to get him to relax. When he said he had to go, Kiriwar looked a touch confused, before nodding in understanding with a grin on his lips. "It was good meeting you too, and I'll definitely be on the watch for you! Good luck!"
