Rash's eyes bugged out a bit, surprised that he hadn't mauled her... though now insulted by his snide remarks. She still wasn't totally game to trusting him yet.

"Why don't you just get it over with?!" she shouted at him, still clawing at the bramble. She wanted to fight, or at least be able to defend herself... but she knew she couldn't. It was pathetic, she knew, and embarrassing. She couldn't help but cry out pitifully as she struggled, squinting her eyes in an effort to hold back the tears she could feel were coming. She didn't want to die a coward... but she REALLY didn't want to die a sniveling coward.

But what was the difference? Either way she would be dead. All at once she stopped her trashing, and sunk lower into the snow. Her paw was now bloodied from all the struggling, not to mention her own careless slicing. She just wanted everything to stop, for the ground to stop spinning so fast, and for the air to be less frickin HOT.

He couldn't help but laugh softly as she continued to scream and him, and rose to saunter over to her, feeling rather badly for the young female. "Get what over with?" he asked, seeing that she was ready to break down. He did not kill youngsters, unless they heavily provoked him, he supposed, but that had never happened. She was the youngest saber he had met in years.

Reaching down, he carefully began to break and slice away the plant from her petite, bloodied paw in a rare act of gentility and kindness. She deserved a little break, at least. "You might hurt yourself if you don't stop that." he said firmly when he was almost done, knowing that she could probably break away from it soon enough.

Rash watched carefully the as male approached her, tensing when he reached out towards her foot... but was shocked by his sudden act of what would seem to be kindness. She was befuddled, to say the least, but still not inclined to trust this stranger. This could all just be some kind of sick game...

The moment her paw was free, she bolted. However, after putting a good fifteen to twenty feet between them... she stopped. Ears back, she faced the rogue, her injured paw pulled close to her chest as she crouched in the snow. I shouldn't stop she thought, I should just keep running.... but. I want... to know.

"Why... would you do that for me?" she questioned meekly, still trying to avoid eye contact with him. "You're... a rogue."

Dáire watched her bolt off, holding his ground. He knew she would stop, somehow, and he held back a grin, not wanting to seem so sinister. He scoffed a little at her question, and remained seated, toying at the bramble in front of him.

"Did it ever occur to you that maybe I'm the kind of rogue who isn't out to get you?" he asked, wondering how many trespassers they actually got. He certainly didn't see many sabers himself, though he did live in the midgrounds.

"I'm not going to hurt you. Never was." he claimed, reinforcing the fact that mauling her wasn't on his to-do list. "How many rogues do you meet anyway? Some of them must be pretty nasty for you to be so freaked out." he mused. He felt it might be partially true...several of the other rogues he had met over the years had been...less than safe to be around.

Rash didn't know quite what to say to him. In all honesty, she'd never met another rogue before... but she'd been taught to fear them. Even beyond her father, ALL cubs in the Fallenstand were taught that outsiders were enemies... and that those who lived in the Midground, the rogues, were deserters... be it from Frostcreek, or their own Fallenstand.

Though she was still breathing heavily, she tried to relax her posture. She wouldn't let her guard down... but so long as he stayed at a safe distance, she saw no need to attempt fleeing again.

She looked away for a moment, trying to think of something... anything, really... to say to him. The air of calmness surrounding them now had stopped the spinning, but her thoughts still seemed to be jumbled up.

At last she turned back to face him, meeting his eyes for the first time.
"I... thank you."

The rogue grinned a little, pleased that she did not try to run away again. He didn't quite realize how much rogues were hated by her pride. He had left when he was just old enough to be able to be alone, which was maybe a bit younger than she was now. He'd never heard many stories, or rules, or anything about the Fallenstand, and hardly remembered anything about his own pride, whoever they were.

He did not glare or sneer when she finally looked at him, meeting her gaze with a calm and placid sort of expression in order to keep her calm herself. "No problem..." he replied, eyeing her scratched up paw. "What brings you so far out, again?" his maw curled up into a bit of a sly smirk. "Surely you aren't a one-saber hunting party like last time...?" he asked, unable to keep from teasing.

Once again Rash couldn't help but feel ashamed and embarrassed. Why was it that everything about this male was making her feel two feet tall? Regardless, she was relaxing more, finally letting herself sink completely down into the snow. The sudden chill was a wonderful reprieve from the stinging pain in her foot ... not to mention this damn maddening heat.

"You'd been watching me for that long, huh?" Not but a few moments ago, that thought would have made her extremely uncomfortable... scared even. She paused for a moment, burying her paw further into the snow. "I almost had that buck, you know..." She couldn't help but let a minuscule smile sneak onto the corner of her mouth. It had been shameful at the time, yes, but looking back... that whole ordeal had been quite childish. It seemed funny that he would even bring it up at all.

A sly grin slid onto his face as she responded to him...truthfully, he hadn't known that much, but he could easily work with this. "Oh yes, you were so very close..." he quipped teasingly, slowly rising to his feet. He could smell the faint scent of her bloodied paw, and it reminded him of the kill he'd left lying back where they had run from. No matter...he was sure nothing else would get to it, especially another saber.

"So, is it twisted?" he asked, referring to her hurt paw. "You should let me see, you might have a thorn in it." he commented casually, as if he knew her as a friend. He was interested to see her reaction, rather loving to see the priceless expressions that crossed over her face.

Rash winced as she lifter her paw up, drawing it close to her chest. Her head turned away, but her gaze remained fixed on him from the corner of her eyes.

"Its fine..." she said quickly, trying her best to sound casual, "It just got scratched up. I don't think there's anything you could do..."

Truthfully, she was still wary of letting the male get too close. Sure he seemed clever... maybe somewhat charming... but he we was still a rouge. No matter how he came off, it was still in her background to fear him. It wasn't something she was especially proud of... but then again, there were lots of things she wasn't proud of herself for. She wouldn't let this encounter be another entry to that log.
