I am currently in realative good shape. I do about two hours of swim six days a week. But currently doing four hours six times a week.

I actually haven't run for a while, the swimming has kind of consumed my life xd So I always see everyone talking up a storm about running and wanted some nice input. My body hates running. After about a mile and a half, my joints in my knees and ankles burn so bad I have to stop though. Will that go away? I only recently thought of running because it made sense. I have the strongest leg muscles on my swim team, but the weakest arms stressed I can't start running training till swim team ends in May. But I want to use my whole summert to winter training for a half marathon in the spring.

So any tips? ^-^

I'd be interested in tips as well. I've thought a lot about taking up running.

Running is very hard to get into, the burning, the pasties, the pushing yourself to keep going ...

But I love it.

What I do usually is stretch, some good ol' yoga moves for my legs and drink alot of water! Just don't down it all in seconds cause sometimes you'll feel rather sick when you run.

A treadmill is rather useful when u start running because it can help you in so many areas, but outside is fine. Your first start at running is usually your longest so just go at an easy pace until you really can't go any longer. Walk it off and wait until you begin to feel good again. Now this is where incline is very helpful, your building strength in your legs, and if your a swimmer your already on top of that but what I like to do is find some elevation and push myself to get up it, so if your not a treadmill girl a hill of any sorts will do the trick. Once you have conquered it walk it off until you feel like your ready to go again. For the last stretch of your run sprint; running hard for a couple deep breaths and walking for a couple deep breaths until your finally done your route or time on the treadmill. This really helps build your endurance to help you run alot longer.

But just do whatever feels comfortable to you cause it all comes in time and eventually your first run will add on minutes and you will start going longer and longer. It really does feel awesome when you beat your record. Also try finding a running buddy! Trust me it really keeps you going.

So enjoy running, hope this helps!

Thank You!

I have started to run at a turtle pace, but my goal is to do a 18 minute 2 mile run becasue that is the cut off for cross country. I found I love hiking alot more, but my legs are kinda getting huge because i am only making muscle instead of burning fat. So right now i can straight run a 21 minute 2 mile.

Thanks again!

That's awesome! I can't even run a block. xD

I want to get back into running, but I'd feel like a dork running around the neighbourhood. My boyfriend said he'd run with me, so that'd be good. Now it's just getting out there are actually doing it.

This thread just a few threads down gives some interesting insights into running shoes. Worth a read. :3

Wel now I have ben intruduced to a runnning club. Though there skill level is above mine. Its an 8 mile run every day mon-sat. I dont on fully making it for the first few weeks, but a friend of mine asked me to join so now i have no reason not to run. I think I might use this forumn to write my progress so i can look back and make sure i am improving.

yeah i feel like a dork too. i am going like a mile per hour as dogs pass me by.

I think I'll keep my shoes ^-^ I only have cement to run on and no grass where i live. I'm also too much of a germ-a-phob to run barefoot. always afraid of worms or other parasites and disease.
