He'd gotten out a knife and had stopped at one edge of the lake to relax for a little while, sneaking out after finishing a few chores. He did pretty well at heavy work. It was the more delicate things he felt very awkward about, and he suspected he wasn't going to be on duty with any of the more delicate kitchen ware again after that once incident. He still felt bad about that but he had big hands....and not the most suited for very delicate things.
He did alright with carving though, as long as you weren't asking for filigree'. He paused, blowing wood chips out of the little boat he was carving and looked around, watching the water ripple in a slight breeze, with Rikk and Skyborn, his blue flits, chasing each other over the waters surface, trilling and dipping gracefully.
He could hear that someone else had arrived but didn't look up from his carvings to see who it was.

((ooc:Old picture of Ray. I think I sort of mutated his name spelling by accidentl since I'm so used to calling him by his shortened name.))

Crimiel rolled his shoulder, nudging Toad up with it, the brown flitt jerking forward in attempt to physically move Crimiel along faster, periodically blinking between only to return a moment later, repeating the process. Hazel eyes rolled skywards at Toads behavior, and his own for humoring the little thing, the flitt practically vibrating on his shoulder before taking flight in a ruffle of wings and trills.

Trudging along after the flitt, following the browns progression as Toad skimmed across the lake, ripples trailing behind him, and weaving himself between the two blue flitts, cooing loudly. Hesitating a moment at the sight of another occupying the lakes shore, he shrugged to himself before stepping closer to the water.

Crimiel glanced at the younger man, bent over and carving away at what appeared to him to be a small boat, his shoulders relaxing a bit with the realization that he didn't recognize the boy. Not weyr born then, he thought idly, sitting himself down a good three feet away from the other, resigning himself to an afternoon spent shirking his chores in favor of Toads' antics.

Letting the silence fill with the sound of steady carving Crimiel plucked idly at the ground by his side before turning towards the other, eyebrows down-turned in a habitual frown.
"I'm Crimiel," He made a slight hand motion, trailing off, feeling oddly awkward in interrupting the easy peace.

Rayale offered him a lazy smile for a moment, before looking up from the carving, putting the knife on the ground beside him and offering out a broad hand. Much as Crim's frown seemed to be habitual, the smile came easily to Rayale, lighting up his sun browned face. "Your flit?" He asked, nodding to the spotted brown skimming the lake.
Rikk and Skyborne parted for a second, each going a different direction before wheeling back to fly with Toad. "Sorry, hope I'm not bothering you."

He couldn't think why he would be, but then the Weyr folk had proved to be a curious breed, something he wished was a little easier to get used to. In some ways he found them a bit more formal, in other ways...definitely not.

All that talk of flights in the hall...he'd had a hard time quitting blushing after that. He glanced back out to the lake with a faint shrug, to watch the flits again.

Crimiel nodded just as Toad gave a shriek, a few sunbathing dragons raising thier heads slightly at the commotion, having crashed to the waters surface to paddle along the lake. "Unfortunatly." Reaching for Rayales' outstretched hand Crimiel grinned easily "I think it'd rather be me interrupting you and your work."

Releasing the others hand, he Pulled his legs to a sloppy indian-style, resting an elbow on his knee, and head in his hand. Eyeing the little boat as the others attentions returned to the flits. "You're a candidate for the recent clutch, yeah? If you don't mind me asking... Where were you originally searched from?"

If Crimiel were to be honest, the time before a catching was one of his favorite moments, the normally dull routine of weyr life interrupted by the flux of new candidates being ushered into the weyr. Though it was rare he ever spoke to any of the candidates after a catching. Most eventually leaving after a failed Impression or continuously busy with caring for their new dragons.

"This?" he gestured with the half carved boat in his hand. "This is nothing. I was just..." Well, being a little bit homesick might be one way to put it. He was missing the cohesiveness, and the chaos, of being on a ship. He knew what to do on a boat, how to handle most situations. Here he didn't, which was making him feel even more awkward than normal. "I'm from Nerat" he explained. "I was learning how to run a fishing boat with my father before I was searched. It's so much different." He admitted, giving Crim's hand a firm shake before letting go. "Are you from the Weyr?"
