S'kagi seemed uncertain how to take this particular question, making a sound sort of like clearing his throat, but it might have been an somewhat taken-aback laugh.
"Emori?" He asked, startled. "... She's a very talented young woman, I wouldn't mind having her in my wing when she's and Innanath are old enough, but I hadn't thought about her in that light. Especially given our initial meeting was convincing her to stay long enough to stand."
He seemed to be thinking about this, as though he were trying to decide if he'd made a mistake in thusly dismissing her, or if it was ridiculous to think so. Certainly it would be a rocky relationship. Somehow he didn't see a woman like Emori standing idle if he took an opportunity to try to fly a Queen.

Kaskel could almost hear what the other man was thinking. The power of suggestion was obviously at work here. He hid a good-natured smirk by rubbing his fingers over his lips, all the while wishing he knew the rider better. It would have been fun to press the issue. Kaskel could see himself and S’kagi becoming friends, so maybe he’d get to do it eventually.

In the meantime, he preferred to keep his distance, pursuing another line of thought that bugged him. “You had to convince her to stand? I heard she was holdbred, but usually people come here because they want to Impress.”

"Her hold is not friendly to the Riders and the Weyr." he admitted. "They allowed her to come anyway but they expected her to return, and I think they still do." He considered this a moment longer, wondering how she would approach them, and if she would, or if she'd simply wait for them to assume what had happened. "So I asked her to stand for one hatching, and if she didn't Impress I said I'd take her home myself." He explained with a further shrug. "I understand where her hold is coming from, it's been so long since thread fell, I just hope we can find an way to end the resentment even if it never falls again. I think Emori and people like her might be the key to that. The Harpers would love that wouldn't they. A green rider of more crucial importance than a gold?" He chuckled softly, though he wasn't entirely joking.

So it seemed that Emori had been a reluctant candidate. That considerably lowered Kaskel’s opinion of her, especially knowing how many true Weyrfolk were waiting and hoping to find their other halves in those dragon eggs. Still, she had Impressed. If a dragon could find good in her, then there had to be hope for her yet. And S’kagi did have a point. Her outlook on the importance of Weyrs must have changed dramatically with her Impression of that little green hatchling. If she were to take those new ideas back home and convince other holders of it, things could get better for the Weyrs whether Thread came or not.

“Don’t let anyone else hear you say that,” Kaskel warned the rider, though his voice was also light with amusement. “You’re liable to get numbweed boiling duty for spreading such heresy.”

S'kagi laughed at this, rubbing the back of his neck sheepishly, though the man had a point. Both Holders and Weyrfolk were something at loggerheads of opinion, and breaking that up would be... challenging, if not impossible.
"You're probably right, but I think it's a valid point. Besides..." His grin changed to a grim, determined smile. "If I fly a gold, it might become a lot harder to dismiss my particular heresies." He sighed, the tension bleeding out of him again as he did so. "But that's a great deal riding on actually catching one of them. And really the chances of accomplishing something other than quietly being knifed in the back by a Holder or, By the golds forbid, an Weyr-person, although I hope I'm just suffering from particularly active imagination in thinking of that as a possibility. Anyway, especially since she's Hold born, you can see where the plans Coriath and I have might get in the way of any relationship with Emori, even if she weren't a Weyrling." He spread his hands in explanation, since it seemed fairly clear to him that if she'd been so reluctant to Impress in the first place, her idea of being... looser in a relationship, was going to be an even bigger adjustment, and a very very complicated one for the young woman. One he didn't see including her wanting to become involved with someone with actual plans to fly and bed a queen-rider.
She was nice, she was smart as a whip that he'd seen, but she'd probably sooner blacken his other eye, and maybe hit him in a few more sensitive areas. He shuddered to imagine.
