My appetite is really small, and so I don't eat very much. I'm really close to my period, and all femals know that when you get close to the menstrual cycles you get the munchies... well... I was getting hungry, and I was beginning to eat... ALOT. The more I ate, the angrier I got with myself. I was worried about how many sweets I was consuming because I was afraid that if I ate too much I would begin to get overweight. I'm 140, a perfect weight for my height and age, but I'm always concerned about how much I eat. I'm skinny and don't want to get fat. I just noticed how much my eating concerns me. I don't starve myself, I eat when I'm hungry. But would this be considered an eating disorder?

I'm not sure that would be considered an eating disorder at this point, but it might at least be bordering on one.

Keep in mind that staying healthy is what's important. A healthy diet is low in saturated fat, has a lot of variety, and has a lot of fruits and vegetables. Say no to the chips, soda, and candy as often as possible, but don't beat yourself up about the occasional splurge. Reduce your meat intake (especially red meat) or even cut it out completely if you want to research healthy vegetarian alternatives.

A lot of people also don't know that sometimes eating more can make you stay at a healthy weight while eating less can make you put on weight! That's because if you don't eat often your body will go into "starvation mode." This is when you body says, "Gosh, I haven't gotten any food in a while; I'm not sure what's going on out there. Maybe food is scarce or something. Either way, I'm going to conserve." Then your metabolism slows down. You lose weight slower, and you're more likely to put on more weight when you do eat. So eating six small meals a day is recommended.

If you still feel like you're too concerned with weight and are developing unhealthy habits, talk to your doctor or school counselor about it.

I'm sitting at about 145, which is within my healthy BMI range, even though I think I'm still a little chubby. But I'm more or less comfortable with my body and my weight, and while I'd like to be about 10 pounds lighter, I'm also ok if I don't lose the weight.

That being said, I also have a bad habit of eating close to my period, or when I'm bored or stressed. I've put on weight before, but usually I catch myself doing it and once I've gone through my "phase", I'll lose the weight again.

If you're worried about your weight or diet, as Lorien said, you could always ask your doctor. smile
