well my birthday's coming up soon...and I was gonna buy myself Final Fantasy XII for my own "happy birthday to me" present...for that reason, I have completely stopped watching gmvs regarding FFXII or any spoilers. But as I was going through like ratings and people's opinions. Everyone says XII sucks...some people say they're good, but people who said that FFXII are good also said "well, story sucks though" and I'm buying/ collecting/ playing final fantasy for story purposes only...so I thought to myself, "It can't be that bad..I mean, it's Final fantasy! They NEVER disappoints me!" =D But people keep saying that it really sucks, I'm wondering if I should think it over..
Does it really suck that much? Story-wise? No spoilers by the way..D=

It doesn't suck... but it's really not up to normal Final Fantasy standards. My main problems with it were that it lacked the scope of the previous games, being was mostly about countries, rather than whole world(s), and that the characters were unusually detached from it, so they didn't get nearly as developed as usual. Keep in mind though, that in my opinion at least, it would still qualify as decent if we weren't comparing it to Final Fantasy's previously stellar record.

Hmm...I see I see.. Thanks! I'm still gonna buy it. I still like country theme, it's just makes game more awsome if it's universe theme. That's why Final fantasy 7-9 was beyond awsome! 3nodding I love Final fantasy X as well, characters don't go to space but it has to do with dream world or something like that >.<

I think it's one of the best Final Fantasys. It's true that it's very different from the previous ones I have played, but that difference was what drew me in so deeply. The world of Ivalice was so beautiful and detailed that I spent many hours just running around to talk to NPCs and sightsee.
It's true that the story does not pay as much attention to individual characters as other FFs, but I found this to have the effect of making every character important in their own right. Instead of a leader rallying his troops, there's a group dynamic that just makes it so much more believable.
While there's no obvious huge threat that would lead to the total destruction of the world, it's my belief that the danger presented in FFXII is actually terrible, and relates very well to current affairs.(this next part is in white because it contains medium spoilers) The nethicite can be viewed as weapons of mass destruction. If Vayne were to use them, it could very well lead the destruction of the world, if the world war that would erupt between Rosaria and Archadia didn't finish it off first.

don't listen to reviews...
everyone has an opinion...make your own!
if you go to one of those game shops like gamestop you will likely pick up the game for less than 25$! no loss!
like any FF game...don't run through it, play all the side quests...(except the fishing game - that in my opinion SUCKS!)
it's a game..it's a story..it's fun...

In my opinion The new battle system is what makes it worth playing overall. Not having random battles but keeping some of the turn based play really showed that Square Enix was trying to think outside the box for it. It's not my favorite FF overall but it is worth playing.

I don't think it's "thinking outside the box" so much as just trying to hook in MMO players while avoiding completely losing what Final Fantasy has come to be... I can understand the appeal of it, but if I wanted that type of battle system, I would just go play an MMO, you know. Like I said, I don't like it as much as the other games', but the storyline is still the better part of the game for me.

I luuuurved the battle system. Took me a while to figure out, though. I kept trying to dodge enemy attacks at the begining.

I still do sometimes, just 'cause it makes me feel better that I'm at least trying. Kind of like tilting your head to one side to get the bowling ball to go that way.

I can't seriously play any racing game for same reason. biggrin I'm dangerous to people close to me even playing jump and leap kind of games. Oddly enough, that never happens when I'm playing fighting game like Tekken etc. Then I just sit there unmoving like in trance.

Ooooh, my brother used to get so mad at me for doing that playing Spyro! biggrin Somehow, it's the only game I ever did it for; usually I sort of trance-out too.

My friends laugh at me when I play mario cart. 'Mal, it doesn't actually turn the car'.
I love Mario Kart Wii, because then it responds. xd I kicked their butts, and they don't laugh (as loudly) now.
