Fishing? Very nice. Long days and nights on the open sea, away from watchful eyes. You could get up to all kinds of mischief on a boat! Of course, Nan never let silly little things like sea sickness and the fact that, you know, work actually got done on boats stop her fantasies. Aside from those two things, boats were totally one hundred percent romantic. Can you tell that she's never been on a boat before in her life? "Well, I'm glad you're here now! More people to talk to! And you're very polite, and I can't say we don't need more polite young men around the Weyr." She shot Gawyn a sidelong glance.

"You have flits? Really? What are they like? I've heard they're really cute but they can be a nuisance if you don't train them right." Like always, she answered her own questions while barely giving time for the person they were directed at to answer. Her nickname, however, made her grin proudly. Kaskel had it down pat. "That's right! Nandeli the Nose, at your service!" She gave a mock bow. "Need to know anything about anyone, any secrets, what Kaskel likes about dark corners, you can always ask me. I keep no secrets from anyone," she said, still grinning, as she winked. Aaah gossip. What would the Weyr do without her?

Nandeli wrinkled her nose when the smell of blood wafted towards their table. "Honestly, who's coming to eat smelling like they killed a wherry with their bare hands? There are baths in the Weyr, you know. At least bathe after doing nasty chores. I hope whoever it is washed their hands..."

Veyes glanced up from his meal maybe just a little surprised that someone talked to him. It certainly wasn't what he expected after spending the entire morning in the meat locker. He paused between bites and swallowed attempting to be polite; saluting back as best he could. "Umm..Hello...umm...I'm Veyes. Nice to meet you."

It was courtesy to answer back a greeting; he knew that. But knowing that there were a other people around didn't exactly make him feel too sure of himself. He tended more toward the quiet side around his peers; finding it a little easier to deal with adults and chores; much like he had on the farm.

Veyes didn't offer a seat but there were several around close by. Considering his last job, he tried to be a bit polite and not be too much in the wind or the way of the others; even he could tell that his clothing had an odor from the previous task. Not that he minded the smell much, he was used to the hard work and the odors that came with such task.

Kiriwar was a bit bothered by the smell, but he could deal with it -- he was sure he smelled rather odd sometimes, reeking of alcohol like a drunk and of grapes and wood. He smiled crookedly at Veyes again, saying, "I'm Kiriwar. A pleasure to meet you as well. Working hard?" he asked, lifting his eyebrows and leaning casually against the table, opposite side of Veyes, not wanting to invade too much.

Veyes nodded slowly trying to ignore the unpleasant words from the girl at the other table hoping she would leave him be rather than continue her comments. He turned his head focusing on the boy before him; repeating the name to himself so he would remember it later. "Pleasure's mine." he answered as his mother taught him and then picked up his fork again knowing it would keep him from thinking too hard on the people around him if he got back to eating.

"Yeah...I just finished up in the meat locker...umm..." he paused for a moment because he realized what he would normally say might not be well received by others in the course of eating. "...preparing the meat for use."

He took a couple bites of his meal savoring the flavors; the blood pudding was excellent; well worth the time it had taken for he and Conomor to bleed out the beasts from the neck into the buckets. "So...you working hard too?"

Kiriwar knew what Veyes kept back, having glimpsed into a few meat lockers in his life. He did not press, smiling softly and shrugging his shoulders. "Not really, to be honest. I'm taking a break right now... the dining hall is my quiet place," he said simply, glancing over to the group of Candidates talking.

He paused, then, leaning forward slightly to peer at what the other boy was eating, blinking curiously. "What's that?" he asked, then, pointing at the blood pudding.

Veyes sort of smiled at the thought of the dining hall being a quiet place. He actually thought that it was noisy compared to the meat locker. It certainly had far more people coming in and out of it. "This isn't that quiet...but...I guess it is better than the dorms when everyone is around."

As he took another bite of his delicious meal, he glanced down to where Kiriwar had pointed. "Oh...that's blood pudding...umm...kind of like a sausage pancake...its made with umm....flaked grain, raisins, herdbeast blood, and spices.. But they usually will just tell you its just sausage. I drained the....umm...main ingredient for them yesterday." He took another bite of the blood pudding and seemed satisfied with its flavor. He considered taking a small portion of it back to Conomor's flit because it probably would enjoy the hearty taste.

Kiriwar laughed at that, brown eyes glittering with amusement as he nodded with Veyes. "Not many do. But the bustle of people lets me have my silence and pick my conversations when I want them -- people have other people to focus on in a place like this, if I'd rather be left alone," he explained, before listening intently to the explanation of the food.

"Hn. I've never heard of it before... I might have to try it sometime," he said, nodding thoughtfully, before smiling again, ever content. "Is a family trade, or are you just interested?"

Veyes watched as the other laughed and then ate some of his toast and jam; the treat to end his meal. He nodded in response and couldn't fathom this being a "quiet" place for anyone. Of course, he wasn't much of a socialite and Kiriwar obviously was more comfortable in that role.

"Nah...It's just you never waste anything on the farm and the women in the kitchen can't waste anything either with all these mouths to feed." He said as he took another bite of his toast while thinking that the jam was a bit tart but still very good. "My family farm's is a herd farm so you learn to do everything with the meat from...flesh to bone. So when I got here, they put me to work pretty quick."

At least, when he tuned everyone else out he could carry on a reasonable conversation. All he had to do was think that just he and this other boy were here talking..."Umm...what do you...ah...you from a hold?"

"Well, Rikk' is a real handful, he was my first flit, and I was trying to teach him to get my things back because my brothers, they're...tall. Taller than I am... kept taking it and putting it where I couldn't get it. So I was trying to get Rikk to get it back but...uh...his idea of whats mine is a little shaky. "Skyborn I got at the Gather. I wasn't planning on it but Rikk kept trying to get away with it so I figured it would be a better idea just to buy it instead of let him take it. Fortunately Sky seems to keep Rikk a little busier, but if you're missing something small and shiny, I'll help you look for it because Rikk might have it." He explained, with an apologetic smile, even though he hadn't found any 'stashes' of late. Which probably meant there was an impressive trove somewhere out of his eyesight. "Nice to meet you, Nandelli."

Staying silent and listening, Raena found her self feeling rather successful. There were many more things to talk about besides the fight in the Lower Caverns. By now she was very much feeling like she had been forgotten, which lead her to believe so was her blundering.

Smiling a little at the story of Rikk, his name was very similar to her Keek, had the personality that made flits impossible not to love to boot.

Not bothered by the blood smell, besides her smile or looking around she made no effort to draw herself into the conversation. Jumping back in was the idea, but there was a better time than making herself look more like a fool.
