Terisa wiped sweat from her brow as she set her frame down for a moment. She had ambitiously hoped to get it all the way to the center of the bowl so that she could easily see the watch dragon, but that seemed like less of a good idea now. She had forgotten how heavy the frame and yarn spools were. Deciding that the spot she had ended up, a few dragonlengths from the candidate barracks, was as good as any, Terisa sat on the ground next to her weaving frame. She had changed the design a bit so that the legs were removable, allowing her to sit on the ground and work when a bench wasn't available. This was the set up that she decided to utilize this day, and with a few adjustments it was perfectly set.
Rubbing her hands on her trousers to dry the sweat and dirt from them, the dark haired girl looked up to where the watch dragon sat and tried to decide how exactly she wanted the composition to be. Lifting her hands up to form a vertical rectangle around the watch dragon and rider, Terisa made her final decisions and grabbed out her sketch pad to make a few notes, before taking the first pieces of tan colored yarn to start the wall of the Weyr. She didn't notice that anyone was in the area around her until a shadow passed over her hands.

Bartan had spent the last week pestering her to come and spend some time outside with him. He had been randomly bombarding her with images of sunshine on sand, of glittering water, of the curving walls of the Weyrbowl, of the dragons he saw out there. Candidate chores had been keeping her in a lot, and her firelizard was losing patience with her. She knew he went out often to zip around and probably annoy his larger cousins, but he wanted to share it with her in person!
So it was that today, with a little time on her hands, she finally gave in to his demands. She stifled a giggle at him as he kept his hind claws in her shirt while he flapped and struggled to pull her along behind him. Obediently, with laughter in her eyes, she followed the insistent bronze flit.
She had to admit, it was very nice to step outside into the sunshine and breeze without actually having a task to tend to. She walked slowly across the sad, breathing deep and very nearly closing her eyes. Of course she personally found the kitchens the most relaxing and comforting place, but the outdoors were invigorating. She sighed again and opened her eyes so as not to trip.
It was only then that she realized she'd come very close to someone sitting quietly on the sands with a contraption in front of her. "Oh, I'm sorry!" she exclaimed, stepping out of the light so that her shadow no longer covered the work being done. "I apologize, I didn't see you there." She blushed a bit, fidgeting in her chagrin. "I was being silly and enjoying the day with my eyes closed." She really was quite embarassed. What a rude thing to have done, blocking the light and nearly walking right by her without even seeing her! To try and make up for it, she gave a little bob and introduced herself. "I'm Illabel, and this is Bartan."
Bartan, for his part, had indeed seen the other girl, but cared only for being outside with Illabel. He chittered his happiness and let go of her shirt, swooping around her several times, diving close to cok an eye at the other girl's project, wondering if it was something to play with. A firelizard toy? He looped around again to zoom over it for a second look.

Frowning a bit to herself, she finished pulling a bit of yarn through her loom and looked up at the source of the shadow. She smiled after a moment, realizing that it wasn't good to look grumpy when meeting new people and in truth she wasn't grumpy. Terisa shook her head, "Oh don't worry about it, no harm done." Her smile was a bit shaky, since her nerves flared up the instant that she had to speak, but otherwise the dark haired girl appeared perfectly friendly. That was ruined the moment she awkwardly looked back towards the ground, listening to the girl's further apologies, but not really knowing how to respond, other than what she had already said. "Uh yeah.... Walking around with your eyes closed might not be the best idea in the world..... There are lots of rocks and things around." Though her words were a bit harsh in meaning, Terisa smiled weakly again, hoping that what she had said was appropriate. It really wasn't all that healthy to walk around the bowl with one's eyes closed, and she was in fact a bit surprised the girl hadn't run into something already.
At the introductions, Terisa nodded a bow, smiling at the firelizard when he was introduced, "I'm Terisa." Using her left hand to hold the contraption she used to separate the strings on her loom, her right hand was free to extend to Illabel. Terisa's dark eyes were quickly dragged away from awkwardly staring at a space beyond the girl's head and glancing back at her when the bronze flitt seemed to gain an interest in her work. Laughing a bit, Terisa looked between Illabel and Bartan, "Seems someone's interested.... I don't know if that's a good thing or not." Hoping the girl appreciated her attempt at a joke, Terisa glanced at her face to guage her response before looking back to the firelizard, a bit worried that the creature's interest might bode ill for the health of her loom.
