Pierre would never have made it as a wild palui.
It wasn't that he was easy to push around or weak. It wasn't that he couldn't handle taking care of himself every now and then. It wasn't even that he'd have to groom his own fur that would have done the pampered yellow palui in.
Rather, it was that he would never be able to handle not getting to eat human food. He stole, begged, and snatched food from those tall culinary geniuses whenever possible, and enjoyed it with a vengeance. Imagining having to find his own food -his own uncooked, unprepared food- horrified him. How could wild palu stand it?
He considered this as he munched on a carefully filched croissant, flaky crust dissolving in his mouth. It was a mystery the tabby palui simply could not solve.

Lempika walked along blissfully, her name tag jingling and her curly tail bouncing. She hummed softly to herself, and thought about a book that was recently read to her. Though very dull and boring, it was somewhat interesting. Pure learning wasn't her thing though, and she'd probably try and stick to more classic literature from now on. Stocks, economy, and politics... those kinds of books served her no real purpose anyways. Shrugging she turned around a corner to simply run into another palui.
"Oh, excuse me!" She hadn't actually bumped into them, but it was still quite a shock. "Terribly sorry if I caused any fright, I didn't see you when coming around..." Looking the other over she noted their bright yellow pelt, and made a conjecture that they wouldn't be all too bothered by the accident, since yellow was quite the bright and happy color.

Pierre gasped as suddenly something walked into him, and as he did so, tragedy struck. In slow motion, he watched the croissant fall out of his mouth and onto the dusty, unappetizing ground!
"No!" Pierre cried diving for it too late. He glared up at his tormentor, blue eyes flashing with barely contained fake-French fury. "Zut alors!" he exclaimed. "Please be more careful to look where you are going, you have quite ruined a perfectly marvellous pastry!" Getting caught up in his tirade, his tail wagged so fast with annoyance, it seemed to almost be able to propel him along the ground. "There will be subtle taste differences!" he exclaimed. "The texture will have changed! Mon Dieu! This is a tragedy!"
Having run out of things to rant about, the yellow Palui took a deep breath. "S'okay." he told her in a confusingly contradictory and complacent manner.

Ah, she had been wrong. She blinked and tilted her head to the side slightly as he ranted. It somewhat reminded her of... a child, crying over spilled milk. It was cute to watch though. Blinking a few more times she smiled, it shouldn't be a hard problem to fix. "I'll just get you a new one, k?" It was a pastry, obviously, and from the looks of it... croissant. Did palu actually... eat that? Shaking the thought off she wondered where she would even find one.
Bakery popping to mind first, she scented the air for the smell of any fresh baked goods.

Pierre was a palui of strange tastes, but her offer mollified him. Maybe she wasn't that bad after all. "Non, non, that's all right." he assured her. "I was merely disappointed." He could steal another for himself later, he stole food from humans all the time. Aware that he was in the presence of a girl palui, he remembered to show off his French manners after he had so capably flashed his French temper. "Mais, I don't believe I've introduced myself! Je m'appelle Pierre." he informed her with the only French phrases he knew liberally scatterred in his speech. The yellow palui dipped his head at her briefly. "Who're you?"

"Oh no, it's no problem- not far from here there's some that are resting on a windowsill cooling, it wouldn't be hard." She couldn't tell what kind of pastry it was actually, but if it had a strong enough scent to waft here it was probably something sweet. When he introduced himself she gave a small back. "I'm Lempika, pleasure to make your acquaintance Pierre," she dipped her head down once more with a smile. "So, are you sure about turning down my offer? It's really no trouble, we could even take some of the pastries together- I've never tried a lot of human food."

Pierre looked horrified. "C'est possible?" he demanded. Human food was the best sort of food there was in the yellow Palui's opinion. "In that case, we must get some! It is simply the best sort of food there is, the stuff they feed us is much worse." Fluffing up his tail indignantly at the thought of how deprived the poor girl was, he looked around for a place where they could nab some nosh. "C'est un dommage, very bad indeed!"
At the last minute, he remembered himself, his fur flattening after the horrifying revelation that Lempika had made to him. "Enchanteé." he added as she introduced herself.

Lempika blinked, and tilted her head to the side slightly. What was wrong with fruits and chicken? Tasted perfectly fine to her... She chuckled though with a gentle smile, he was a very intriguing palui indeed... "Umm... thataway~?" She pointed in the direction the scent came from, wondering if human food was really that necessary for the other. Getting onto all four paws she shook herself off a little, thinking about what kinds of food she should avoid that might destroy her digestive track.
