Jahangir left the smoldering sands, his heart just a little bit heavier. He wasn't found worthy and was beginning to think he never would be. Not wanting to be around the activity and excitement, Jahangir made his way to the sleeping quaters and quickly changed and grabbed his flute from the bed. Walking away from the celebration, he put flute to mouth and began to play. It wasn't a premade song but something from his heart, to help express what he was feeling.

At times it sounded sad as he thought of his lack of impression but then it would become excited as he remembered how he felt on the sands in the beginning. Finally, he far enough away, Jahangir sat down with a tree behind his back and continued to play. This was his way of letting everything up that had been building since the start of the hatching.

Jahangir continued his song for several minutes before finally coming to an end. He was emotionally spent after the ups and downs of the day. Resting his head on the tree, Jahangir closed his eyes and started thinking about all who impressed. There had to be a reason why they had been chosen while he had not. It was something he had starting doing after his first failed attempt at impression several years ago.

Letting out a sigh, he voiced his question to the sky, "What did they have, that I didn't for a dragon to pick them?"

Zarine nearly bounced with excitement. Today had been a thrilling day for the young once-trader. She had been Searched. Despite the Hatching of the clutch, a lone green rider had been ferrying people to and from Ista Hold, and had encountered her family. And, of course, her. And her complete fate had changed. She'd gone from a roaming merchant to someone with a home. A real home. A forever home. That was something she'd never dreamed of having before, but deep within her had longed for. The adoration in her heart for her new status spilled over onto her face, giving her a large grin. Her unevenly placed dimples framed her pinked lips. Today was perfect.

In her exploration of the Weyrbowl, she'd caught a snatch of an airy tune. While the air was light, it's under tone was one of a deep set sadness and disappointment. She placed a delicate hand to her collar bone, feeling the power behind the simple music. And there leaning, was it's player. And he was questioning.

Zarine didn't want to startle him, but she didn't want him being sad, either. Her nature kicked in. She just couldn't stand people doing harm to themselves, and this boy seemed to be postiveley wallowing in self pity. She, for one, would not stand for such a thing. Especially on a day as perfect as this.

"That was beautiful. Your music ... Where did you learn to play?" She stood over him, head tilted, curling hair forming a cascade down her shoulders. "I wish I could play like that. I also wish I got to see the Hatching today. To prepare myself! What was it like?"

She was all pleasant chatter, finally stopping to allow the boy a chance to reply. She inclined her head, waiting with great expectation.

Maranan went back to the bunks and grabbed his fishing pole. He made sure to stop and congratulate Kallista and the others. He walked right out of the Weyr without a look behind. He needed to see the sea. He walk until he found a beach and sat down for a bit. He watched the waves and the sea. He took a deep breath. "I've missed you old girl."

He got out his pole and casted. He stood there at one with the sea. He got a bite and pulled it in. It was a small one, so he threw it back. He felt small and useless right now. He sighed.

Jahangir opened his eyes wide and looked toward the female that had surprised him. "Oh, well I'm a Harper apprentice so I learned there, but instruments just come easy for me, especially my flute. "Sighing, "The Hatching was as amazing as it always is but I'm apparently not worthy yet to be chosen."

Needing to get his mind off his lack of impression, Jahangir decided to ask his own question. "Are you here for the celebration?"

Her dimples flashed again, and she looked down through her eyelashes. "Ah ... Harpers. I think I dreamed about what being one would be like as a child. But I certainly lacked all required skills. Except maybe sheer stubbornness, and I highly doubt that counts. "

Zarine leaned against the tree and used it to slide down into a neat sitting position. The girl felt it more polite to be at eye level to whomever you were talked. Her trader upbringing also taught her it was more likely to guarantee her an easy sale. Right now she wasn't peddling any good, of course, but still, she felt like she had something to sell.

Pulling her knees up to her chest and arranging her brown skirt in an eye-pleasing sweep across the ground she looked over to the shorter boy. "Don't many candidates Stand for years before they're picked? And doesn't it just mean that your dragon hasn't come about yet?" Her green eyes were wide, seemingly full of youthful innocence. "Plus, it is an honor just to Stand at all. I can hardly wait. "

Grinning again, she revealed her purpose at the Weyr. "I was just Searched. Poor timing for the poor rider to be out the Weyr, but the perfect timing for me. I never imagined in a million years that I could one day be Standing, and maybe even Impress. "

She wondered if her babbling had made him feel any better. She found, at least for herself, that chatting about whatever popped into her mind was an effective strategy for relieving any moodiness. "Oh ... by the way, I'm Zarine. You are?" She extended a hand gracefully toward him, so he could shake it.
