Anoki slipped out of the apartment early that morning, before anyone else was awake. In the past few weeks he'd learned that if he was around when Raven or Mahou needed him, he'd be stuck with Arjuna all day. Anoki didn't always mind that, and he did like being needed. But he was still sorting out how he felt about his new family member, and he needed a day off.
Not that there were many places to hide out early in the morning. After nixing idea after idea, including the playground (too easy to be spotted), the shops in town (none would be open) and the beach (too hard to get to), Anoki just headed for the student library. There was always work to do, of course, but this time he just wanted some space.
Pulling a random fantasy book off a shelf, Anoki sat on the floor, leaned against the wall, and closed his eyes to think.
Myung-Ki followed Anoki dutifully, almost worriedly. If his person was unwell, he wouldn't be able to take care of him. Myung-Ki hated the idea of getting less devoted attention, so he was on his best behavior in hopes that it would make his person well again. As Anoki sat against the wall, Myung-Ki curled up in the doorway of the library. No one would get in as long as he was there! As long as he was... he was...
... zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.

Laial wasn't necessarily too much on libraries, he thought. He didn't hate them, but they made him feel like he really needed to be quiet... and quiet wasn't necessarily the adjective one would use for him. Besides that, it made him want to yell -- so much quiet seemed a little oppressive, didn't it? Still, on this day, which was shaping up to be almost ludicrously hot, the nautilus boy ducked toward the library. At least it'd be cool, right?
... Still, it came as quite a surprise when Laial found the door blocked. By a dragon. "Hey," Laial said, putting his hands on what passed for his hips. "I want in!" Heiko, who was a little bit behind her partner, made a little noise.
Why couldn't Laial just be nice and ask politely?

Myung-ki rolled over onto his stomach, breathing out a stream of hot air. If there were any people there, he didn't notice.
Anoki, on the other hand, opened his eyes as soon as he heard the voice. "Who's th-there?" he called out, almost fearful. He'd so wanted some time to himself. What kid would want into the library, anyway?
Still, he has to be polite, so he set the book aside and headed for the entrance. "Is s-something wrong?"

"It's just me, Laial," called the boy, frowning a little. That voice sounded sort of familiar, but he couldn't quite place it. Shifting from foot to foot, he tried to ignore the hot air the other boy's dragon blew out, leaning over to peer into the library. "It's really hot outside, and it feels cooler in here, and Heiko's belly was getting hot." Nevermind the fact that Laial had been baking in the sun too. Who was this boy to question him? Was he not allowed in the library?
"Is there a reason I can't come in?" pouted Laial, crossing his arms over his thin chest and trying to puff up so he looked less like a skinny little kid with a shell bigger than he was.

Laial? Anoki frowned. He knew someone by that name, didn't he? But it just escaped his memory, and he shrugged, continuing towards the door.
"N-no, I didn't m-mean to-" Anoki nearly tripped over Myung-Ki, and immediately understood. "W-wake up, please!"
Myung-Ki snorted, letting out more hot air, and rolled over onto his back again. He didn't wake up, but at least there was room for people to squeeze past now.
Hopefully that would do. "If I m-make him g-get up, he'll be r-really mad," he said apologetically. "I'm so-" Finally looking up, Anoki finally saw the other kid, and brightened considerably. "Oh, Laial! From that t-time!"
