Lena Powell, depressed novelist and weary cynic, was escaping.

For a moment she was getting away from the cheesy dimestore romance of Lady Burgundy and her dashing gentleman, was getting away from the hack novels she wrote to pay the bills, and was escaping to the comfortingly non-Victorian, very real world of Asian junk food. She sat on the sidewalk, drinking a fizzy soda and enjoying the sunny day, gentle breeze blowing against her face, feet kicking an aimless pattern on the pavement. Her lopsided smile was rare, but it spread over her face like a split banana, genuine and sunny.

She should have been writing chapter twelve, 'In which Lady Burgundy recieves a dozen roses from a mysterious masked suitor', but this was fine for now. She could worry about her dying self-respect later, and for now just enjoy soda so sugary she could feel her teeth ache. She could spare a moment to escape.

Matt was a gentle soul who lived alone without companion. Especially not from a girl from one of his failed relationships. He was walking down the street with a messenger bag swaying at his side and a pink and white box in one hand. He was careful not to tip it. Inside were a dozen of perfectly made sugar-coated cream puff swans, ready to be delivered to one of his friends to share with his staff.

He had left work early to get here before the work-rush and made it in almost 6 minutes flat. He puffed out air as he lifted his sleeve carefully and peered at his watch. He was right on schedule and headed off on his way but then... ring...ring... He slipped his cell phone out of his pocket and answered it. It was his friend's nostalgic voice that came over and told him that the Swans were un-needed...

'Oh. okay. It's fine. I'll bring these back to the bakery then.' he said over the phone sadly. He got a thanks and then the dial tone. He pressed 'end' and pushed it back in his pocket. What in the world was he going to do with 12 cream puff swans?

Instinctively, Lena looked sharply up from her soda, poised to run. The author had few fans, but those she did have were the types of swooning housewives who she'd rather flee from than talk to, and coupled with the fact she was about as social as an island hermit, this made her rather skittish around people. To her relief though, it looked like it was just a bakery delivery boy, definitely not the type to enjoy books about Lady Burgundy's love affairs.

Whoever he was, he sounded depressed, which was, in Lena's opinion, the incorrect tone for a man with arms full of delicious, and from the sound of that phone call, unclaimed goodies. Not a woman to pass up an opportunity to mooch, she sauntered over to the boy, offering him some candy from her raid on the nearby Asian grocery store. "Soda candy?" she said, contriving to look as feedable as possible.

At the sudden approach, the dark haired man took a step back and pushes his glasses up slightly. He cleared his throat and smiled kindly at the woman. "I'm sorry, I can't accept this." He said as he pushed her candy back to her. Ever since he was a little kid, he was raised in a paranoid family and taught not to take food from strangers or else they might abduct him and hurt him with lit cigarettes and blunt metal objects. It didn't matter if it was tempting to take or the person giving it to him was innocent looking... There could've been drugs in that candy! Even though the person giving it to him was a kind looking woman who had good intents.

Contradictory to that, he was also taught to share with others. And right now, he had a dozen beautifully piped soy-cream swans in his hands. He was lactose intolerant and had to use Soy products for his pastries. Surely he could spare a few of them before they turned bad. He had already paid for them when he left the Bakery and couldn't eat all of them by himself. "Would you care for a pastry, though?" he asked her politely. "The guy who I was giving them to ditched me with them." He said with a nervous chuckle and a hand on his floppy looking black hair.

Lena pretended to think about the offer. "Well..." she said, pursing her lips, "I shouldn't. But if you insist..." The slender writer was only slender because of her metabolism and determined exercise. Her sweet tooth was big enough to eclipse a small sun. And better yet, he hadn't wanted any candy, which meant more for her. Liking the man, or at least liking how manipulable he was, already, Lena looked him up and down. Skinny. Nerdy. Not the type of man who Lady Burgundy would go for.

Cool. Flashing him a somewhat mischievous grin, the author moved to punch his shoulder in a friendly way. She could accept someone like this without being too snarky about it. "Lena." she informed him without being asked. She didn't inculde her last name, because there was still the risk he read cheesy Victorian novels. "And yourself?"

He looked at her with an odd expression as she looked at him and the way he looked. He wasn't the manliest man you could possibly find, but he thought he was okay to be a man of 180cm. "uh... let's sit down there, Lena." He said pointing a finger to the fountain that spewed out water in the middle of the plaza. "My name's Matt by the way." He said as he took a step towards the fountain with the pink and white box resting on his two hands. It would give him a chance to rest his feet as well as get Lena a swan without having the rest of the fall and break.

He stepped close enough to plop himself down onto a dry area of the fountain's edge. He set the box on his lap and opened it up. "here." He said as he patted the fountain edge next to him, signalling to her for her to come and take a seat. Well, if she wanted to of course.

It'd been a hell of a day. It'd been a hell of a week, as far as Adaira was concerned. The small cottage just outside of the hustle and bustle of town that she lived in had been over-run by a wedding party. Apparently it was a wedding party three times the size she'd been told it would be, back when she'd agreed to rent her graden and home out to the lucky couple. It wasn't so much that the moderately tall blonde regretted her decision so much that she regretted she'd even picked up the phone to begin with. She wasn't used to so many people, she'd given up her life of fame and fortune because she couldn't handle large crowds. The cacophony of hundreds of people talking all at once was a noise that made the woman want to rip her hair out by the roots.

It was when she'd been thrown out of her own kitchen by the wedding chef that she'd had enough. Slinging the worn straw beach bag she used as a purse over her shoulder, Adaira had left in a huff. It wasn't until just now, as she could hear the splish-splashing of her favourite town fountain that she was beginning to relax. It looked like her favourite side, the one that faced town and the asian market, was occupied by a charmingly mismatched couple sharing a box of treats; and not being one to pass up an opportunity to eavesdrop and people watch, she sat as close as she could without pulling attention to herself.

Lena promptly sat sown next to him. He had food, she'd sit on a rotting log if he told her to. Raccoonlike, she snatched a cream puff and popped it in her mouth, eyes widening. "Mmmm! Ish ish ood!" she informed him with her mouth full.

Having gradually cultivated a keen sense of when people were watching her for fear they would come over and say she looked an awful lot like someone on the inside of a book jacket they had seen before, the novelist spun around. There, the blonde one was watching her from afar. Swallowing the cream puff nervously, she twitched her leg and scooched to the other side of the pastry chef to be less visible. "Uh..." What was his name again? Was it important? Nah. "Is that woman looking at us?" Realizing that she sounded wretchedly paranoid, she tried to look as nonchalant about it as possible.

"Thanks. Always gotta do my best!" He said to her. He always loved seeing the expressions on people's faces when they eat his creations. And little did they know it was Soy Cream! Matt picked up a soy-cream puff swan and ate it in two bites. He wasn't a fan of pastry, but it might've seemed like he had poisoned them or something. At Lena's comment, he looked up and saw the blond woman. "I don't know if she is..." He said after he swallowed the last piece of pastry. "Do you think she'd like a Swan?" He looked down at the 10 remaining in his box. It wouldn't harm to offer another one to someone. And on that woman didn't seem to be involving herself, so why not involve her in their conversation? Matt stood up from the fountain's edge. "I'm going to go ask her." He said happily with a dorky-looking smile plastered on his face.

He nodded to her and took another one out, placing it on Lena's lap. "Here. I'll be back in a minute." He said as he closed the box with one hand and took a single step forward.

OOC: this may very well be the only rp I have without a love interest XD I may be able to scrounge up some posts here

BIC: >>Amongst the hustle and bustle of city life, a speck of red stood out amongst the tide of people. It was said only 4% of the worlds population were redheads, naturally at least, for it was a recessive gene. Not that she ever gave thought about it. Even without the flaming red locks that fell in waves to her shoulderblades, the female would still manage to get the occasional odd look. She wasn't famous. Or wealthy. In fact, she was rather far from both, traveling the world with nothing but a bag of money and the soft blue dress she wore. No shoes. Never needed them, though there were a few stores she wasn't permitted into. But she was unmistakably, undeniably, beautiful beyond belief. A beauty only rarely caught in magazines and movies, soft and delicate. But the lack of makeup, cute clothes, accessory bags, and designers shoes typically threw most people off. This little red dot on the city just so happened to be at an ice cream truck, getting herself a drumstick. For free. Again. At the fee of course of behing hit on by the modern teenage male, freckled with achne with natural grease in his hair. Offering one last shy smile, as she herself would never admit her beauty, she waved to him and scurried off to the one thing that held any resemblance of beautiful. The water fountain. Only to her dismay it already had a few people crowded around it. Maybe if she sat on the other side of the fountain of the blond with swans, near the very edge, no one would bother her. She bit into her drumstick as she attempted to slip in unseen. Good luck, little red dot<<

Lena let out an "Ah!" as the pastry chef went over to talk to the person watching them. She squirmed nervously as he left, out of al the people in the world she'd want to talk to, one watching rather disconcertingly from a distance was not on the top of the author's list. She took a deep breath. Calm down, Lena. That woman was probably looking at the chocolate swans. In no way will you have to hear, think of, or speak of Lady Burgundy or cheesy, career-killing romance novels. It would be fine.

The fact that she had just convinced herself she wouldn't have to think about Lady Burgundy made it that much more startling when Lady Burgundy sat down on the other side of the fountain.

...What.

Lena blinked, rubbing her eyes. Oh, so not Lady Burgundy, but a girl who looked remarkably similar to the heroine of some sort of cheesy romance novel, and as a writer of them, Lena should know. She was painfully beautiful in the way that the author would describe as 'like a wild summer rose, all softness and untamed beauty.' and then need to stop so she could gag a little in her mouth. The girl was the kind of stunning that ONLY the heroines of cheesy romance novels were, because movie adaptations couldn't find an actress to do them justice. Lena groaned and hid her face in her hands. The world was out to get her, making such a person sit next to her on her break from writing about Lady Burgundy. She was not going to be allowed to stop thinking of cheesy love stories no matter what.

>>If 'Lady Burgundy' only knew the thoughts of her feminine watcher, she'd be the one entranced by her. Afterall, no one had ever thought her sickeningly beautiful before. Goddess, model, an angel...She knew herself to be attractive but she never paid it any mind. Once she became old it would be gone anyway. The thought of someone actually getting sick because she was pretty would astound her. But the red haired female remained blissfully unaware as she licked a bit of vanilla icecream off the corner of her rose colored upper lip. Sending a man walking into a telephone pole from staring. She crossed her legs as she slowly became aware of another set of eyes on her. But the feeling didn't immediately dissapate. Clear aqua eyes flicked to the side to see the woman sitting not to far off from her on the fountain<< So much for sliding in unnoticed.

another red light. third one in a row. otto was getting agitated. why would they time them so odd? as soon as the light changed his stomach let out a growl. he looked up to see a big sign saying "GOGO SUSHI". otto had always wanted to go to a sushi bar, but had never been. "now's as good a time as any." he thought, and pulled in to a lot near by.

as soon as otto entered the door, he realized he had no idea what to do. a bit bashfully, he took a seat at the bar waited for someone to come by.

Outside on the streets, Matt looked around for the lady that he saw before. She was gone as if her existence was wiped off the face of this earth! He shrugged to himself as he walked back over to the fountain that spewed water that was clear to the bottom with the exception of pennies and nickels that sat stationary at the bottom of it. He sat back down next to Lena. "She disappeared!" Matt said a bit anxiously. He wondered to himself if he had scared her out of her wits. It's not really normal to be a man running towards a woman (who is a stranger) with a box of pastries.

"Want another one?" he asked. They were melting faster and faster by the second, and he couldn't do much about it rather than eat them. But he couldn't have possibly eaten almost a dozen cream puff swans. The sky outside was still blue with small traces of clouds now. It made him smile inside to know that it was a nice day to be sitting outside on the rim of a fountain.

>>Yes, there was DEFINITELY someone watching her. She took another bite of icecream and tried to focus on the sound of the water behind her. The fountain was beautiful. Why did she always walk into populated cities? Oh yeah. Money. She sighed. Soon as she was finished her icecream, she'd get back to work. Just had to keep her eyes open for a musicianist to accompany her<<

OOC: yo, sax...Everyones outside by this fountain thing. Not in a bar. Backreading is a GOOD thing, so if ya want, come outside and join the fun! I'm half expecting a tumbleweed to roll on by.
