He had come a fairly long way to reach Boll Hold, though he wasn't here to discuss tithes. He was passing through and hoped to examine a few of the more unique goods produced there, but his primary reason was to examine a rumor. He had heard, in a sort of 'friend of a friend' way, that there might well be talented young harper here. And the same rumor had implied he might even be more interesting than that, though S'kagi was, to say the least, a bit dubious that he'd find much more here than some interesting goods and an decent musical performance.
So dour. His bronze chided, though his voice was teasing, and he made an amused sound as they settled on ground open enough to land on.
Maybe I'm just not sure how we'll be welcomed. People have been getting very... touchy about dragon riders. Neither you or I have ever seen thread fall. He sighed, looking around for someone to approach. He wasn't sure if he hoped or not that there would be any truth to things. Anyway, it hardly cost him a great deal to listen to a performance and say a few nice things.

"Fardles..."

Sometimes Mador hated his lack of focus. He remembered one of the Masters at the Harperhall had sent him out here for something very important. But he couldn't for the life of him remember just what it was. The newly appointed Journeyman narrowed his eyes, wracking his brain in an attempt to remember why he was out here on the very edges of the Hold again...

When he was suddenly cast in shadow, the man frowned and looked up. Only to be hit with just why he was here in the form of a rather large dragon circling down to land. Distantly, he felt Fiari's claws dig into his shoulder and heard her chittering in his ear. He'd never seen a dragon before, and it was awe-inspiring to see one so close. As soon as the bronze landed, Mador bowed politely - an action which caused poor Fiari to fall of his shoulder and hiss her annoyance at him as she circled and landed back on his shoulder once he'd straightened up.

"Shards, I never thought I'd be meeting a dragonrider so soon in my life!"

Coriath turned to face the young man with an curious intensity, eyes whirling, mimicked by his Rider in an movement that could have been choreographed, though it was only S'kagi that grinned, pulling his goggles down. His hair had been tied back for riding, and he felt momentarily self conscious, but pushed it aside.
"We do that occasionally." he joked. "Drop in on people. We have to keep our overinflated ego's in tact somehow." He stepped forward, nodding faintly to the huge dragon, who was crowding his thoughts for attention, though S'kagi was trying to pay attention at least long enough to introduce himself.
"I'm S'kagi, this is Coriath. I came to hear the Harper here. I've heard a few rumors, and I wanted to see if he was as interesting as had been implied."
Skagi! Coriath insisted. This one. Find out more.
Well he's a little younger than me...he has a flit... a pissed off flit... S'kagi teased. You think he could impress?
I believe he has that potential.

The joke caused Mador to chuckle softly, and he relaxed quite a bit at the rider's apparent personable attitude. He nodded politely to each of the two as they were introduced.

"It's a pleasure to meet you, S'kagi and Coriath. You're in luck. You won't have to look very hard for the Harper. I'm Mador, the local Harper. And this little thing is Fiari," Mador said, smiling and shifting to absently stroke Fiari's head in an attempt to calm her. The flit nipped at his fingers in reprimand, but accepted the stroking and eventually calmed down. And once she was calm, she casually observed the dragon before her, chirping at him curiously. It was the first time she'd seen one of her larger cousins. "I wasn't aware there were rumors going around about me though... I do hope they aren't bad."

"Mm." S'kagi shook his head, though he frowned slightly as he looked the other man over. He was nearly S'kagi's age, at a guess. That was a very small window, though he supposed any window was a window. "No not bad." He glanced to the flit in curiosity, turning up the corner of his mouth again. "Actually part of it said you were a skilled Harper. Part of it..." He trailed off. "Tell me a little bit about yourself. How old are you?" He pressed, paused and folding his arms over his chest. He looked as though he was thinking very deeply about something, though his dragon was staring at him now, and you could almost feel the communication between the two.

"I'm twenty. I was apprenticed when I was ten... Really, my life isn't that eventful aside from accidentally impressing Fiari," Mador said, shrugging absently. The movement of her perch caused Fiari to give an annoyed chirp, but she was rather calm still, eyeing Coriath for a long moment before flying over to perch on the Bronze's nose. That made Mador smile fondly, and he made no move to stop the little flit.

If we don't tell him, he'll never know, and then he won't regret if it he fails. S'kagi considered, rhetorically, only to be prodded again by the bronze.
If he doesn't know, he'll never stand, and a hatchling might not impress... since when am I a perch? The bronze reared his head back in surprise as his rider continued.
"It could get considerably more eventful, if you decided to stand for the approaching hatching." He offered, letting the whole idea hang out there, to see what the man would do. At his age, it was possible he would refuse, but he had to at least offer.

For a long moment, Mador stood there in shock. His mind was reeling. Him... A candidate? The very thought of being given the chance to impress a dragon half as brilliant as the one before him was something he could never refuse. He tried to speak, but found his mouth had dried out considerably and hesitantly wet his lips.

"I-I'd be honored," he stammered, trying to keep himself from shaking in excitement. He loved being a harper, but he couldn't pass up the chance at impressing a dragon.

Fiari merely cooed curiously from her spot on top of Coriath's nose, her eyes whirling with curiosity. The small flit leaned down, sniffing the bronze's hide and giving him nose a small, appreciative lick. He was nice, to let her get a good look at him. And once she was satisfied that the large dragon would not harm her and was satisfactorily average, she flitted back down to perch on Mador's shoulder, cooing and broadcasting warm happy thoughts.

The huge bronze shot his rider a look best described as knowing as he settled back slightly, making himself more comfortable, apparently deciding they might be here a little while.
"It's not a given." S'kagi warned. "But if you're willing to try I'm willing to take you back to Ista with me."
She tickles...Coriath added, to his rider, if a bit in an off topic fashion, wrinkling the bridge of his nose and rubbing it against his leg as the flit returned to her partner.
"Although I still wouldn't mind hearing you play." He added, with a grin.

"I understand, S'kagi. But just being able to witness a hatching from the perspective of a candidate... Even should I fail I will be singing about it for the rest of my life," Mador said, beaming in the direction of S'kagi and Coriath. "And I'd be happy to play for you. I completely forgot, but I was supposed to invite you back to the Hold. We'd be honored to entertain you for the night."

"If it's not too much inconvenience, I would love to."
Truthfully it would have been easy enough to take the man back with him on the spot, but aside from presenting slightly less impression of arriving only to throw the Hold's bard on the back of his dragon and fly away, he looked forward to at least one night out of the tightly crowded Ista Weyr.
"It's probably also slightly more tactful that way." He grinned.

Thank you for agreeing with me... Coriath sighed deeply, stretching his massive wings leisurely as the two conversed, and putting his great head down. I think this is for the best.

"Well, tact is always important, or so my Mum used to tell me," Mador said, grinning and motioning towards the Hold. "Please feel free to follow me, S'kagi. If Coriath wants, I could send someone out to show him where to hunt."

Mador let the words hang, looking to the bronze curiously. He knew quite a few Hold children who'd be more than happy to pamper the large dragon for the night. But that depended on whether said bronze wanted the pampering.

"I'm sure he'd love the attention." S'kagi noted, amused at the thought, but also pleased at the idea of getting a certain degree of permission for the large dragon to hunt. Granted there wasn't much that someone could probably do to discourage him if he was so inclined, but in these tense times he would really rather do as much to ease tensions as possible.
He almost wished that they had sought out the man earlier...somehow. Though if wishes were dragons he knew of quite a number of dissatisfied youngsters who would be riding now. He'd been one of them once, he'd just found himself lucky. Very lucky.
If he hadn't had Coriath, he didn't know what he would be doing now. "Thank you for your hospitality."

Mmm. This should be relaxing. The bronze sighed, happily.
