It's celebrated by 12th graders, they usually start partying Thursday night and don't stop until Saturday xp But there is school on Friday, so it's not too too crazy.
In my school, the senior class always organizes a show that they put on during first period for all he other grades. Every year there's a theme, this year ours is Jungle.
I was on the committee organizing it, so for the past few months I've been really busy painting sets, raising money, working on the script, stuff like that.
Last Thursday, it was finally time to set everything up and get ready to partayy! xp But first we had lots of work to do! A bunch of students showed up to help though, which was nice. I hadn't really expected that. But there was kind of a problem, almost everything we needed to do required a staple gun and ladder.. and the people who were going to bring those, didn't show up for a long time. So we got everyone to blow up balloons while we waited, and we decorated the whole gym with them. Most kids went home around dinner time, and then just the people on the committee were left to do all the rest, with a few other volunteers. Everyone did a really great job, when we were finished the gym and entrance looked awesome.
There was general rehearsal of the show, which I stayed to watch, and then I went home around 10:30. I didn't get to bed until like 12, and at 4:30 I had to get up again! I got all ready in my zebra costume (zebra t-shirt, zebra leggings, white socks, black and white shoes, striped earrings) and rode my bike to school... I had to wait at the bridge foreverrr so I was late, but oh well. Then me and my friends went to the Zand and walked around town for a while until we ran into a bunch of other kids and decided to all go back to school, even though it was only like 7:15. Pretty soon all the seniors started showing up, everyone was so excited and hyper. There were a few last-minute things to do, and then everyone went to man their posts! Haha. I was out on the courtyard, making sure all the younger students put their backpacks somewhere before the show. Then, when it was time to start letting kids into the gym, I was at the doors trying to stop the chaos... which was almost impossible, but oh well.
Eventually the whole school was inside, and the show could start!
The backdrop on the stage showed a sunset, and the beginning of "Circle of Life" played while a girl stood on stage and lipsynced the "naaa mygena" part or however it goes :p then two guys came on stage and started playing tribal drums, the music faded out, everything went black and only the drums continued. Then the song "Wild Dancing" started, the lights turned on, and all the seniors ran in dancing and yelling like crazy. There was an area in front of the stage roped off where the seniors could watch the show, and once we were all there and the song ended, Tarzan came on stage. He called Jane on stage, and then he proposed to her. Very cute. The King of the Jungle (our principal!) came out and sat on his throne, and told them they couldn't married because Jane is from an enitrely different world than Tarzan, and blahblahblah. But they said they loved each other so much it didnt matter, so the King said they could get married if they were willing to prove their love by completing a few challenges. For every challenge, Tarzan and Jane asked some teacher to help them (cherry eating contests, the elephant dance, roaring contest, stuff like that). They were able to finish all the challenges and get married (the pastor was the guy who works at our school store and does all kinds of adminstrative things). Sometimes the band played a song in between challenges, or there was a dance. One of our teachers raps really well, and he did a rap for us. It was hilarious. I wish I had the text.. I remember the opening line was "Mijn ontbijt vanochtend was een stuutje met nutella, van jullie weet ik het nie- wast jupiler of ne stella?"
And a the end of the show the entire senior class squished together on stage and partied and yelled that all the other students had to go their classes.. mwahaha. Then everyone went to watch Madagascar (or get some sleep), but I missed the first half hour or so because I helped clean up everything from the show. After the movie, each class went to lunch with their homeroom teacher. We went to an Italian place, I got pizza. Yumm. And then we got ice cream after. The rest of the afternoon we did a quiz thing, there were different rounds with different activities and it was class-against-class. There were things like listening to a song, and when the music stops, continue singing.. or run, jump over a table, put a party hat on your head and then answer a question.. do the "Maria Louise", drink an entire bottle of water.. just all kinds of things. The funniest was a lap dance, two students from every class had to give each other lap dances on stage. We all pretty much died laughing. The day was definitely a success!
After school I went over to Eva's house with a bunch of friends and we had dinner and watched a movie... and then went out to a bunch of different parties. That should have been tons of fun, but we kind of got in a fight with a Eva and things were just ugh. Disappointing. But oh well.
Time for pictures! whee
