Nope. There isn't really a "spit valve" or anything for saxophone. That just deals with the octave key and stuff.

ok, today i figured out my octave key is broken, and one pad is leaking, luckily izza school sax, anyway, we were looking at it (me n lucy) and it turns out its from 1987!! iz really old... anyway, its not even shiny, but i got to play hers w/ my mouthpiece and we figured out that it was saxy not me, so what do i do now?

tell your BD it's broken, so that is can be fixed. replacing pads is quik, cheap, and easy, so that shouldn't be to much of a hassle, but he'll have to take it to someone for the octave key, which i don't have nearly enough experience with the sax to know just how bad that can get yet *has only been playing her bari for three weeks*

the BAri sax has a spit valve...*knows from experience, having wanted to see what it does while practicing at one point*

You seem to be really excited about playing sax! That's great! You NEED to know a few things about it before you start to really get into it, though;
1. Start off using a size 2 or 2 1/2 reed.
2. Putting it together; put in the neck first, then the mouthpiece, then the ligature (loosely), and finally slide in the reed and tighten the ligature. This prevents the reed from chipping.
3. When you slide in the reed, make sure that you can see just a little bit of your mouthpiece at the tip after it's fitted. (get help from your BD about this one if you need it.)
4. When you're done playing, PLEASE TAKE OUT THE REED!!! The mouthpiece and reed will start to mold up if you don't take care of them!
5. Buy a reed saver; it'll help keep your reeds in good condition, as well as keep them from chipping. It looks like one of these:

6. Every two weeks (or every month), take the time to clean out the neck and mouthpiece. You can do this by simply running water through it and scrubbing out the INSIDE with an OLD toothbrush (not a new one). It only takes a few minutes to clean the mouthpiece and neck, and it really helps.
7. Take care of the sax! It's expensive!
8. Most important: have tons of fun!

(that's a lot to soak in, but you get the idea! I still may have missed a few things, but it's ok.)
