He surfaced with a gasp and dashed water from his face as Raith popped up beside him with a contented rumble. "Well then," he trod water and mock-glared at his dragon, "pull me over to the bank; I'm exhausted from scrubbing you from nose to tail and back again." There was more work to do once he made it to the shore too, but despite his words he was quite happy to put the effort in. There was nothing quite as satisfying and relaxing as bathing and oiling his dragon.
Raith rumbled again, in amusement this time, and paddled closer to her rider so that he could grab onto one of her neck ridges. "You are a lazy beast sometimes," she responded as she struck out for the bank.
"That's a lie and you know it," L'thor sent with a snort as a change in the rhythm of their progress informed him that Raith's feet had found the bottom of the lake.
"True, true," the dragon agreed with a snort of her own. "You're never still for more than a heartbeat or two."
L'thor let go of Raith's neck as the water grew shallower and swam the rest of the way to the shore. "Quite," he said as he picked up his shirt from where he had dropped it before entering the lake. He used it to dry his face and torso briefly before dropping it again and squeezing the worst of the water out of his hair. "Now then," he said aloud as he paced over to the bucket he had brought along with him, "let's see about getting you oiled, humm?" Technically speaking he only needed to do the patches that felt itchy to his beloved green, but he always ended up doing her all over unless he was seriously pressed for time. This morning he was not; he didn't drill with his wing until late in the afternoon so he intended to make a thorough job of it. She did so love the attention.

(( I'm setting this for a little while after Anne got her flitter... since the RP where she does get the egg hasn't happened. 8D; ))
Some distance away, another pair of occupants of the lakeside were busy occupying time and space... but in a less productive way. Or well, one was definitely unproductive, and the other probably thought it was being kept very busy.
Said busy-body was a small, green Flit that was perched on the shoulder of a black-haired girl who was apparently asleep on a rather large, warm rock. The Flit turned her head and neck slowly this way and that, little eyes scanning the area for anything that could be of danger to her Person. Small wings were semi-tucked, little legs were close together and her forked tail curled slowly from left to right in rhythm with her head-scanning.
A little tickle of weeds rustled from a crack in the rock and the Flit's head snapped to its direction in a sharp movement. When the weeds became still, the Flit slowly turned her head away... but only for a second! She quickly looked back at it to make sure it hadn't decided to take any action.
It did not move. ...So the Flit slowly looked away again, this time sure that the weeds would stay submissive.
But a Flit's guard work is never done, and the little creature looked out to the lake's shimmering waters. She had been watching two large... things out there for some time, and didn't mind that they were around as long as they didn't come to shore. ..But... WAIT... THEY WERE COMING IN.
Oh, this would not do. The Flit's eyes became a ruby-orange hue and the little creature slunk down her Person's shoulder and onto her hip to get a "closer look." Yes... the water-waders were definitely coming in.
In a quick movement, the Flit took to the air and zoomed, swished and zagged to the EVIL SHORE INTRUDERS! She landed on a rock near the man-person, back arched, wings flared and a rather... odd hissing sound being emitted from her mouth, tiny teeth glinting.
SCAARRRYYYYYY.

L'thor startled at the unexpected sound and turned his head sharply to locate the source of the sound. It was a flit. A very small flit, probably belonging to the girl sleeping on the rock nearby. He scowled at it. "Oh calm down and stop playing watch-wher you silly beast," he told it sternly before picking up his bucket of oil and moving back over to Raith. The green dragon was watching her tiny cousin with tolerant amusement, her eyes glowing a calm blue. "What do you think, should I smack it with the bucket?" L'thor asked jokingly of his dragon. She chuckled mentally, but didn't deign to respond.
Egh, well, though he had no intention of actually hurting the thing, he had no intention of putting up with its behavior whilst he was oiling Raith either. "You might want to calm your flit down," he called to the dozing girl. "She seems to think I've come to eat you or something." He hoped the little green didn't try to attack him; that would turn out one of two ways. Either she would claw him a bit - possibly leaving scars - and then his two blues would arrive and deal with her, or she would attempt to claw him but be intercepted by his blues, who would then deal with her. Either way, it didn't come out well for the flit, and in the first instance he might have his face permanently marred which was the last thing he wanted.
