Ghlyssa nodded. "It feels... well, very sleepy right now, because of the snow. But it's alive. And I can feel it, and it's... this is a good place. I feel safe, here."

Riven nodded and squeezed her hand. They walked like that for a while, in the quiet of the forest.
After a few minutes, Riven spoke up again. "Is it close?" He eyed the nearby trees warily, as if one of them might suddenly jump out at him.

"Very close. Very..." Ghlyssa closed her eyes momentarily. "It's this one," she announced suddenly, headed towards a tall and stately tree. It seemed quite ordinary, but even in the winter, the buds on its branches looked almost ready to open.
She laid a hand upon the bark, and nodded. "This one, definitely," she said, smiling.

"Oooh..." If Riven had stumbled across the tree, he probably wouldn't have noticed anything unusual about it, but since Glee had pointed it out... "It's a very nice tree." He put one hand on the bark too, next to Ghlyssa's hand.

"It's... still sleepy. A little more alert than a lot of the rest of the forest, though," Ghlyssa decided. "I hadn't found the nearest one, yet. I'm glad I found it."

"It's healthy, right?" Riven looked at it with some concern, just in case. "We won't let anybody hurt it."

"Oh, it's fine. It's healthy, and it's safe, and it's happy." Ghlyssa smiled at Riven. "Of course we won't let anything happen to it."

"Maybe it is a good idea that I came down here and don't have to be in the Spirit Realm anymore," Riven murmured, tapping lightly on the tree's trunk. "Before, all I had to save was pictures in a star... now I know about the people, and the animals, and the trees..."
His fist clenched. "I WILL become an Ancient. I WILL stop Chaos... something will change. Maybe we can even destroy him." The words were rushed. Thinking about it made him feel dizzy, strangely excited, daring.
A little frightened.

"I'll help," Ghlyssa said softly. She drew closer to Riven. "I don't think I really understand Chaos, but... I almost... I am the trees, and the plants, and everything. When I become an Ancient, I'll be able to protect them properly. I'll be with you. And I'll help, whatever happens. I want to promise you that."

Riven turned abruptly and scooped Ghlyssa up in a tight hug. "Thank you," he whispered in her ear. He pulled back a bit and looked into her eyes, a serious expression on his face. "Learn how to protect yourself. Practice with your power... I want you to be safe. I know you're not a warrior like Nyoka, but... "

"I'm probably the farthest thing from a warrior," Ghlyssa admitted, "but I'll try. I'll practice." She smiled hopefully. "You have to promise to keep yourself safe, too."

"I need to find somebody to practice my spear with." Riven wrinkled his nose, still holding Ghlyssa close. "But that will come, I guess. I used to know how to use it, and that's something."
He looked up at the sky. It was starting to get a little bit dark. "I guess it might be a good idea to go... there's stuff in this forest that's not really friendly."

"I suppose you're right," Ghlyssa admitted. "It's going to get colder, anyway. People are probably going to start wondering where we are."
She hugged Riven tightly.
