Well, I finally found the breed that I want/fits my personality/lifestyle. The Rhodesian Ridgeback breed is what I have decided upon. I won't be getting a puppy for another year or two, but it's never too early to research! I just bought a book on Rhodesian Ridgebacks and I can't wait to start reading it. I've read everything I can find on the breed online, but now I'm ready to open books on the breed. I hope to go visit a few breeders here within this year.
I want to hear any stories or experiences you've had with this breed. The more I hear life experiences from others, the better I can decide about this breed specifically. I don't want just facts you've read off the internet b/c as I said before....I've read it! All those sites like dogbreedinfo.com or reviewyourpuppy.com....I've been to them all......

My husband's uncle breeds them here in Michigan. His are nice dogs, no negative experience.
But like any large dog, make sure you have the space, time, energy, and money to support them. Always make sure the parently have been OFA certified and, even better, if siblings from previous breedings have been sound.
With Ridgies, you do also have to think about whether you want a male or female. I have been told that the females are much more active and the males are more laid back.
Good luck! I hope you find one that suits you. Consider a rescue if you are not set on having a puppy.

I've definitely decided on a female. (Yes, she will get spayed.)
I looked at the Ridgie rescue site...they have about 60 rescues in TX!!! Mostly adults. That made me really sad. I'm not sure if I'm getting a puppy or a rescue. That I haven't decided yet.
