I recently got Universe Cyclonus, and it got me thinking. And now I've come to the conclusion that Sideways is the Unicron Trilogy universe's direct equivalent of G1 Cyclonus.
Most obviously, they are both Unicronian.
As Sideways first appears, he is purple, though a different shade from Cyclonus.
Sideways has very noticeable horns, as does Cyclonus.
Cyclonus has been made into a Targetmaster. Sideways is a Headmaster.
But then the clincher comes when Sideways is upgraded in Cybertron. His spacecraft mode seems to be a combination of the Scourge/Sweep "boat" form, and Cyclonus's forward-swept wing design.
Still, up to this point I considered that all this was probably coincidence, until I noticed one last detail. When Cyclonus transforms, his horns end up on either side of the nose of his spacecraft mode. The same exact thing happens with Sideways. I highly doubt that all of these factors put together are a coincidence.

Hmm, very interesting obsevations. I agree with a lot of your points.
One things boths me though, why is it Scorge that's using Sideways mold for Botcon.

As I said up there, the spacecraft mode seems to be half Scourge and half Cyclonus, so the mold re-use would fit either way. If you take off the wings and stow the mountings underneath the chassis he makes an even better Scourge.
