There was enough light to significantly lighten an overgrown path that wound it's way around the base of many trees. A swathe of mist obscured the mare's vision, adding to the excitement rather than sending her screaming to safety. It more or less added to the adrenaline rush, even though the path was hardly visible in the darkness. Instead of stopping to fret, Rayani kept moving, her body coiling with the paths directions. It was easy to tell if she veered from the path, the soft turf was sure to put her back onto hard ground. But when the dirt track ended and the collision of hooves on stone echoed through the forest Rayani stopped. The trees had gradually thinned towards a wide valley with rocks lining its walls. It was evident that the gorge had once contained water as the rocks shone silver in the dim moonlight. Rayani accidently kicked a small pebble which flew over the edge with such velocity that it cracked and spilt into a million peices when gravity pulled it back towards the earth. Her body turned and wavered along the edge of the valley. She was unable to retrace her steps as the path had vanished in the darkness when a cluster of rain clouds masked the moon.
It was just her luck, a rainstorm was brewing on the horizion drawing closer as the minutes ticked by. Rayani was fairly composed, weighing her options. Travel many meters back into the forest without a guide, or keep walking along the canyon where a horse could easily spot her. Or, cross the rocky valley. The latter was defiantly not an option as the other side of the gorge was nothing what was on her side currently. Rayani shook her head, a sign of impatience. She sharply turned, retracing her steps along the valley in attempts to find the path. Another wave of fog slithered through her legs before thinning. It left a slick watery substance on her coat that glimmered when the shafts of moonlight made contact at just the right angle. It was as if she was going in circles untill something lept out at her. She pulled back, digging her back legs into the tundra. "What are you doing here... Go back the way you came." It hissed and spat at the brown mare, its voice thick with malice. Rayani simply grinned her famous smirk and steped forwards into her illusion. The figure dissolved into thin air, but the looming of a strange figure was still present.
Nervous, Rayani glanced backwards occasionally as she followed the gorge. The element of suprise was unavaliable, as no matter how many times Rayani glanced over her shoulder, nothing seemed to be there. Then something scraped at her sides like fingers robbed of flesh. She looked to the right a leafless branch pinched her skin. She simply glared at the branch and stepped away from the forest. A breeze spun passed her, dismantling the leaves from the trees. The brown mare awkwardly glanced upwards, the caw of a bird breaking the silence. One violet eye glanced down at her before the crow vanished into the trees of the forest. Rayani snorted, her breath visible before her eyes, coiling in the air for a few seconds before dissapearing.

Ahh, what a perfectly perfect night.
Tien's giggle echoed through the forest, the sound waves so obscured and twisted by the natural features of the land that it was hard to tell where the sound had originally come from. Shadows cast by the trees clung to the areas unobstructed by mist, creating grotesque shapes to terrify the soft-hearted, or to further frighten anyone who had already scared themselves silly over some harmless noise or movement. Ahead the forest was dark and deep, silent except for the occasional call of a bird or scurry of a rodent.
It was exactly the type of night where Tien thrived. She moved through the mist, her eyes on the horizon. A rainstorm would make things so much more perfect! She whinnied loudly, rearing up to bat at the floating fog around her. But the air remained as still as the forest.
Then the mare took off. She galloped recklessly through the foliage, her breath coming in light puffs. Where she was going she didn't have a clue or care; it felt good to run until she couldn't bear to run anymore. She heard a bird caw and she looked around, wondering if she would have a feathered playmate to race with. But instead she spotted a mare. She appeared to to be lost and looking for a way... somewhere.
Tien's eyes lit up and she slowed, passing through some trees like they weren't even there. Even better! She could hardly believe her luck. Perhaps this mare would like to have a little fun? Tien wandered after her, trying to control her excitement enough to keep out of sight.
