Soul Ideas

Someone is questing a wolf, but not a coyote. 3nodding

Mouse didn't say no when she stopped in regarding the Fire Opal and I ran it by...Chrys, I think it was? Here's the reasoning behind the Fire Opal being included as a soul, though I think I mentioned it briefly within the soul post... <3

In some belief systems and cultures literally everything has a soul. Whether it be a rock, a tree, or a living breathing thing it has a soul. So following that theory it is entirely possible that Fire Opal could have one. c: Given the description of the Fire Opal it would actually create a very vibrant, pleasant, and intense person.

This paragraph in particular might help point to why it could create an interesting soul and is why I picked it to play with:
"Even those who prefer not to subscribe to the energies in gemstones and the forces which emanate from them will undoubtedly get a feeling of warmth and well-being when they look at a fire opal. In gemstone therapy, opals are generally regarded as gems which people choose intuitively when they are working on a particular aspect of their personality. Seen like this, the fire opal is a good means of helping to make feelings flow and resolve blockages. Connoisseurs say that fire opals bestow courage, stamina, will-power and energy on the wearer. Thanks to their force they disperse old, long outdated ways of thinking and make room for new ones. The warm, fiery orange-red has a positive effect on the psyche and conveys a profound sensation of warmth, peace and harmony. The fire opal is the lucky stone of those born under the sign Aries. "

Fel Essences
I dunno, I think if I re-word them they might come out a little more interesting. And with the right soul they'll really pop. c:

Guardian
I'll ask about the word limit. c:

Edit: For the sales there'll be a limit, but not for the quest thread, so its okay to have a longer personality and history up in my concept so long as I break it down into chunks for any sale. <3

Thanks so much for taking the time to stop in, Tnau, I really appreciate it! c:

Just want to say, I really love your idea for your guardian because it's very diverse. However, the Lab 305 setting is Gaia. I personally consider Gaia just a little place somewhere on Earth so country influences can cross over with my characters, but nevertheless, it's Gaia. If you don't manipulate your character to somehow fit into the setting, I can't honestly see how you will be interacting with any other Raevans (realistically) should you get one.

Something else you should consider is why your guardian would be chosen as a suitable candidate to keep a Raevan. Also, you need to take into account the lab has to find your character. Kyou is responsible for picking the candidates, so you should think about how you can make your character stick out as a good choice.

Hope that helps some!

Thank you, I'm glad you like him! c:
I'll ask the staff to take a look at him to make sure he works within what the shop requires and everything.

Thank you for your opinion! <3

Talked to Ravi and I'll work on his occupation a little to suit him more for being able to care for two people as opposed to just one. c:

Hey Loki!!! <33

Heated Tundra; Claustrophobic Water; Wandering Steam; Unwavering Sand; Crying Stone;; How would these Raevans feed? What powers would they be able to have?

Valkyries Lightening;; I don't believe this would count as a fel essence, as it sounds more like a soul description of a Valkyrie. >x< I say this because fel essences are things in nature/life that were affected by the storm and were subsequently changed or modified into something entirely different, but still within believable parameters. Like a rainbow that was made stable enough to shatter, or a blood that is mysteriously white. In the case of the more mythological essences, like Maiden's Hair or Mermaid's Tears, something still changed. Tears that were supposed to disappear after being split remains, and the hair of someone long passed away is still left behind growing. So just show us what is different about this essence, or what does it do. Things like that. :] <3

Just a couple thoughts I had about your fel essence. I hope it helped! <3

THANK YOU FOR THE CRIT ODO. <333

Haha, to be honest, I'm not sure how I came up with those top four. I was half asleep at 3am when I came up with them. @.@ Or what the powers/feeding styles would be - I'm still workin' on that one, though I hope to get something up today. c:

Good point on the Valkyrie one. <33 I'll have to see if I can make it more Fell essence-y or remove it entirely. XD;;

I'm late to the party on the whole stone as a soul thing, but obviously, it's not a problem from my opinion, seeing how my future-raevan has had a moonstone soul since I got it in April :'3 I really love your Lilies (a favorite of mine as well!) but of course I'd love to see more stone-soul raevans for my baby to meet since they're the only one so far ~ plus, fire opals are perdy. But then, you never know what Kyou might say. Moonstones are said to be the homes of pixies, so technically there are souls to suck out, but I'm not personally going in that direction (well, as of right now I'm not going in that direction P: )

Also, if you're really interested in Valkyrie's Lightning Bolts, it could possibly signify bad luck instead of being a lightning bolt for a chosen one, or something along those lines. However, that's basically like turning into something else, AKA: Zeus' lightning bolts, which were seen as bad omens, signs of his anger, and of course, war. Just stuff to think about I guess = w=b

Thanks so much for stopping by, kitten! <33

I'd really like to work with the fire opal as a soul but I think I need to research it and set it up better. I'm kind of stemming it off the belief structure that everything contains a soul [which some religions do believe in, though their names fail me at this time] and I think I need to really work it out so that there can be no doubt of its possibility. How to do that, though, has escaped me for now. sweatdrop Stone soul Raevans rock! <33 Can't wait to see what your Raevan will look like. c:

*nods* That could be an interesting way to take things. I'll have to do some research and see what I can drum up.

Thanks for your thoughts! <33

Shinto and Animism are what you're thinking of. C:
I might be wrong on Shinto but I'm pretty sure about Animism regarding every natural thing having a spirit.

Animism (from Latin anima "soul, life")[1][2] is a philosophical, religious or spiritual idea that souls or spirits exist not only in humans but also in animals, plants, rocks, natural phenomena such as thunder, geographic features such as mountains or rivers, or other entities of the natural environment.[3] Animism may further attribute souls to abstract concepts such as words, true names or metaphors in mythology. Animism is particularly widely found in the religions of indigenous peoples,[4] although it is also found in Shinto, and some forms of Hinduism, Sikhism, Pantheism and Neopaganism.

Throughout European history, philosophers such as Plato, Aristotle and Thomas Aquinas, among others, contemplated the possibility that souls exist in animals, plants and people, however the currently accepted definition of animism was only developed in the 19th century by Sir Edward Tylor, who created it as "one of anthropology's earliest concepts, if not the first".[4]

Whilst having similarities to totemism, animism differs in that it, according to the anthropologist Tim Ingold, focuses on individual spirit beings which help to perpetuate life, whilst totemism more typically holds that there is a primary source, such as the land itself, or the ancestors, who provide the basis to life. Certain indigenous religious groups, such as that of the Australian Aborigines are more typically totemic, whilst others, like the Inuit are more typically animistic in their worldview.[5]

Ah, thank you! c: Its been a long time since I really studied the various religions so I couldn't quite recall where the theology on it originated. Thanks! <333

I like your soul choice, the stargazer and fire opal especially. As for essences:

Heated Tundra - Looks promising, yet there are a quite a few essences already that have to do with aspects of heat and cold so you might want to be aware that yours might seem kinda cliche in a sense.

Claustrophobic Water - Another promising essence, but I need more. Like how would it work for the Raevan power wise? Does it feed from just merely ingesting or being near water or is there a more specific condition since the water is claustrophobic?

Valkyrie's Lightning - I honestly don't see this as an essence as is. Also be highly aware that if you change it to something to just do with lightning that there is the Black Lightning essence already. So be careful when reworking this concept.

Wandering Steam - I'm sorry to say this may be way too close to my own essence, Lingering Smoke, but you can always see what Kyou and the lab staff have to say.

Unwavering Sand - This is an interesting essence. Not much I can say on it except that maybe unwavering might not be the best name for it.

Crying Stone - You may want to work on this one some more. The applying pressure thing is really throwing off the mood of it. I'd keep to the emotional side of it for best effect. Also did you know there is a natural form in Kenya that's called the Crying Stone? They call it that cause it's been naturally shaped into the form of person and so when it rains it looks like it's crying. Thought I'd add it in as it may help you with developing this idea further.

Good luck!

A much belated thanks on your crit, Ebony! <33

I think I am going to cut the lightning and steam concepts out of my quest and focus more on how to make claustrophobic water work, a better name for unwavering sand and that information you gave me on the crying stone in Kenya is fascinating! Got to get back to work on this quest now that I finally have time again! c:

Updates for today! c: I think I am close to finalizing what I want to focus on, so let me know what you guys think. <33

Edited today - fel essence:
Crying Stone - Stones are solid things that neither bleed nor cry, yet there is one stone that has been found to excrete salty liquid reminiscent of tears. To the touch it is both solid and sure in your hand, but when held by people with emotions of sadness, etc, the stone begins to 'cry', leaving your hand went with a slight sheen of liquid. The stronger the emotion of the person holding it, the more liquid it excretes. In rare moments, it has also been found that the stone will 'cry' when around someone who is experiencing a particularly strong negative emotion without that person needing to hold onto the stone. Reasons for this peculiarity have not yet been found.

Newly created today:
Crying Stone/Fire Opal Raeven:
Food Source: Feeds on the tears created by strong emotions. In the later stages would be able to possibly feed on the energy created by those strong emotions - the only effect this would have on the person s/he is feeding off of would be a slight dampening of the emotion but not total theft of it.

---------------Powers---------------
Passive:
Increased olfactory senses.

Active:
Emotional Dampening - As the Raeven grows strong, s/he could learn how to help people regulate their emotions by feeding off of them, creating a dampening effect on the emotion that has gotten out of control. In effect, the act of feeding on tears/the energy created by them the Raeven would "stop" a person's tears.

Emotional Heightening: There is the potential that instead of dampening an emotion, s/he could also push someone past the brink and to tears on something they are already feeling. This would only heighten the emotions the personal already has and allow the Raeven a much stronger food source - or amusement, of a sorts if that was their thing.

Weaknesses:
Being around people who are not easily ruffled or who do not experience strong emotions would lead to fewer food sources for this particular Raeven.

The increased olfactory senses. Stronger abilities where scents lie is a double edged sword.
