With the economic situation that is hitting General Motors, a well know brand name of the family of GM products is bitting the dust. Pontiac will join Oldsmobile as a dead brand name. Pontiac was well know in Nascar circles with drives such as Tony Stewardt, Bobby Labonte, Rusty Wallace, and Richard Petty with the Grand Prix. The well know makes include Firebird, GTO, Grand Prix, and other brands. The excitemt is soon to be a memory.
BTW: My favorite car from Pontiac was the Firebird (as well as Trans Am and Formula Firebird versions as well). Most noted was the Trans Am from the 1977 movie Smoky and the Bandit as well as KITT from the 80s version of Knight Rider.

there's alot of rumors floating around. Last i heard pontiac wasn't going away but was to become a niche brand that only sells 2-3 cars. I heard they're doing the same for buck and getting rid of hummer and saturn. It would be hard to believe they would get rid of their second best selling brand.

i just did a little reading up on this. Pontiac isn't going to cease existing, but is going to cease being a distingiushed brand. the nameplate will stay but they will only have probably the g6 and the g8 because those cars are multiplatform vehicles. Saturn will be wiped out completely though. pontiac won't exist as a brand but will still have cars made. The hope is slim and bleak but there is still hope.
