In a recent episode of RBR, the costume designer and leather worker, Alex Kavanagh and Adam Smith respectively, shed some light on an interesting tidbit of REPO! Fiction. During the Night Surgeon scene, some people can be seen, briefly, that are not directly involved in the scene. These, come to find, are Repo Cadets, other Repo Men and Women. Notice, though, that they do not look like Nathan Wallace. The Repo Men are allowed to create and individualize their own persona as they choose.
With this sort of information at hand, one must consider what a Repo Man must be. By definition, our friends the Repos do exactly that. They repossess. So if some people are willing to pull iron and shoot it out over a repossessed truck, imagine what kind of hell could be had over the repossession of a vital organ. It is a definite that one of the two parties involved, Repo or Repo'd, is going to die. But at the same time, many people are too scared to fight against the Repo, for simple fear of the prolific evil they represent.
For this reason, a Repo Man must consider two major things when creating their persona. First is functionality, how well the suit in question moves, how light or heavy it is, how much damage it can absorb before being compromised. Secondly, they must consider threat value of the Repo Costume. No one is going to be scared of a Repo Man with a flower on it. And if they aren't scared, they are that much more likely to fight back.
To begin our work, we must take into account the average human being. The Fight or Flight Instinct is a major factor in a Repo Man's work. That is, the instinctual decision making process of assessing a threat in an instant and acting upon the likelihood of survival versus the likelihood of defeat and death. Now, in modern society, and to a lesser extent, the dystopia social structure of the REPO! fiction dictates that when presented with a definitive threat, one must do their absolute most to escape the situation, not to fight, but instead to avoid their assailant if at all possible, and fight only as a last resort. Furthermore, if startled, or caught off guard, most are prone to panic, as seen in any number of horror movies. They'll make split second decisions without forethought, only managing to survive an X amount of time. Likewise for victims of the Repo Men.
Repo Men take into account the ability to startle and scare their opposition. Consider the costume of Nathan Wallace. Jet Black and hard to see, save the haunting, hollow goggles nearly six feet in the air. The sterility of the rubber and pleather offer a startling aesthetic that should bring a sufficient amount of terror to anyone unsuspecting. By this example, a fledgling Repo Man should consider dark colors with very little flash or shine, unless it can be made to look particularly menacing.
However, a Repo Man can not be dependent on the fact that people will be afraid of them. There are those who's instinct to fight is greater than their flight reaction, or those who know of the approach of their assailant. It is in this regard that Nathan Wallace's Repo Costume fell short, being fairly easy to cut, though it appeared that he could take some damage around the torso. By this respect, one could consider the possibility of different casts of Repo Men, and perhaps Nathan was not designed to go against fighting targets.
We will proceed with the assumption that there are different castes of the Repo Man. For starters, we will begin on the basics of the Repo Man.

We have taken our example, based on the skin of Jeremiah Thomas, a character I am currently writing for. Don't worry, he's not a real Repo Man, but he'll happily help guide you in creating your own Persona good enough to call your own!
For starters, notice the use of an underskin on our model. The black lining adds a little bit of cushioning to the skin, not to mention helps begin the process of darkening his body. The gloved hands can go on at any stage in the uniform assembly, but now is as good a time as any to establish their necessity. Your hands must ABSOLUTELY remain covered and sterile, lest the final target, the organ, be contaminated.

The example here shows Jeremiah wearing the famous Repo Man Helmet. Notice the backlit blue goggles. Their deep hue makes them more difficult to see from the outside, but allows the wearer full visibilty as though the setting were day lit. the helmet is molded rubber or pleather over plastic inserts. Notice the face mask. Often times in the career of a Repo Man, one will be forced to enter places that are either unsafe to breathe in, or places with excessively unpleasant scents. The air mask, though a bonus for this particular model, is a big help. Lastly, the parabola on the forehead. Although a harkener back to the old days of medicine, it provides an almost twisted mirror into the soul, reminding them that they should have kept up with their debts.
Consider now the various possibilities when creating your own Repo Men, and do feel free to send them on in!
