Keeya winced as she pulled one out of her calf, legs trembling as she cried out softly, legs almost giving out, her muscles twitching around the sudden accupuncture, tears pouring from her eyes "Can we find someplace warmer where I can dry off privately? If Im not dressed warmly in this weather it hurts... Almost as bad as these things do -ow!" She bit her lip as she tugged another one out of her left arm, and sniffed, "A public bathroom or something?"

Fish nodded, feeling a wave of compassion for the girl. She was endearing. She had ambition. She had spunk. Not like a lot of the other newbies he had met. He liked to think he had been like this as a newbie - full of promise. The powers needed a bit of work, but he looked forward to working with Keeya in the future. Or against her, if that was their fate.

He stooped and took one of her arms across his broad shoulders, helping her to limp along out of the park.

"I could carry you if you like," he said, only half joking. He had a feeling he could lift her without too much trouble. He was strong now.

He scanned the storefronts for somewhere that looked like it might be a good place to get cleaned up. Unfortunately, he had no contacts and no haunts in Micro-Zimbabwe. In fact, being pretty firmly Anglo-saxon, he stuck out like a sore thumb.

Keeya, a somewhat stubborn and independant girl, bit back whimpers of pain, "I think I saw one of those public bathroom "Blockhouses" on our way here. Considering the area, it might be relatively clean." They rounded a corner and she pointed up ahead, recognizing the blockhouse, and limped their way to it.

It was an open construct of sorts, the kind someone may find scattered through parks and big cities to provide flushing toilets and sinks for sanitation reasons, if just to keep hobos from using the streets as often, with screened windows at the top, but it had soap, hot water, a meeger amount of heating, and was a shelter from the bitter late winter-early spring winds.

But most of all, it had mirrors, and Keeya drooped, sagging to her knees when she caught sight of herself and her blood stained hoody, a sappy liquid soaking the hoody, "Those are really driven in, arent they?" She tried to tug one out of her head, and keened sharply in her throat and sagged further down, whining softly about how it hurt, then laughing at how childish she sounded, "We may end up having to cut off the ones in my trunk. Though its soft wood, you might be able to get them out.."

Fish hadn't seen a blockhouse this clean before, but it worked for him. He tugged one of the spines stuck in the trunk of Keeya's head-tree experimentally and found it came out without *too* much of a fight. It hadn't been buried particularly deeply. Another one proved harder. He decided not to fight it for now and went to work on the ones on her shoulder, pausing momentarily to stop up the sink and start the hot water tap.

"How'd this happen?" he asked, and tugged at the hem of the hoodie in an attempt to get her to take it off so he could better see what the problem was and try to clean the cuts a bit. "Did you make it angry?" He was somewhat incredulous. "Or is this a power gone horribly wrong?"

If there was anything for certain, it was that Keeya owed him a huge debt now. Not that that was so bad. She'd be a valuable ally.

He pulled another spine out of her shoulder blade and put it on the counter. They were assembling quite a row of them.

Keeya's fingers dug and flexed at the edge of the sink, keening with and hissing between her words with each tug or pull of a spine, many of them buried deep into flesh, "I was trying to make it attack a target by throwing its thorns." She yelped at a particular one, though she was running slowly out of spines, "Next time I know better -- Acacias have horrible aim." She laughed weakly and tugged out another one in her arm, frowning as it ripped her hoody even more, but thankful it wasnt her skin that ripped like that.

She was now mostly free of them, though a few on her upper back and the one on her head kept her hoodie pinned painfully to her body, "If I could Control it, it'd be a good attack... But it'd kinda require having an acacia tree there already, or growing one before it.. And then hoping it doesnt get Everyone and just who I want it to."

Fish tugged out another thorn from between Keeya's shoulder blades - it was positioned so she wouldn't be able to pull it out herself. "it's an interesting idea," he shrugged, "But probably not practical in the long run."

He pulled the last of the thorns from her shoulders and head, and pulled the tattered hoodie off.

"We should clean you up," he said. He pulled a string of hot water out of the sink with his fingers and aimed it at a puncture on her arm.

"Now would be a really useful time to develop healing powers," he said.

Squeezing foaming liquid soap into her other hand, she scrubbed her arm viciously, hissing softly as she did so, "I usually get this sort of rubbery, scab like covering on cuts, like some sort of plasticy goo, within a few hours, and it hardens into a sort of bandage on wounds. Its really sick, but usually I'm patched up fully by the next day."

Keeya lifted some soap into the water, letting Fish run it as her muscles spazzumed in paing, tears trickling down her eyes. She laughed, ducking her head slightly, "I'm not usually this much of a cry baby, I promise."

Fish smiled despite himself. Something about this felt vaguely parental. He remembered that once, when he was much younger, he fell down a flight of stairs at the docks and wound up covered in sludge and bruises. His mother had cleaned him up pretty well after that mess.

"Well," he said, "I'm not usually this nice, so I guess we're even."

He didn't seem disgusted at the sound of how she healed. "Sounds useful," he said. "I heal the same as everyone else." He shrugged. "Slowly."

He left her to go see what he could get cheap in the wall dispenser. For some pocket change, he came back with rolls of gauze and a tube of antiseptic cream.

"You think these'll help?" he asked.

"I've never gotten this hurt before though - yeah those would be great-" Keeya nodded to the cream and bandages, "I scraped my knees and arms plenty of times, but those were never such deep, stabbity wounds, ya know? Now, I did snap a branch off my tree before. One of the thicker ones when learning to use my jumping stilts. Was hanging by a few fibers and had to be cut off. Hurt reeeaal bad. Like slaming your finger in a door. Ached for days."

She spread the cream over her arm and helped him bandage her arm before repeating the process on her other and running out of gauze. Her shoulders, neck, and legs would be harder to do anything about, and instead she put soap on the sleeves of her hoodie and began scrubbing -- she was going to need it to get home, but didnt need to be stopped by cops wondering what was wrong with her, "I'm sorry, by the way -- I'm sure you had other things in mind before running into me."

Fish shrugged. "Nah, I didn't have anything planned," he said, which was true. He'd woken up older and promptly discovered he had nothing to do. But thinking about that reminded him of the injury that had befallen his bottom the night before that running around the City had managed to distract him from. Of course, that was ruined now. He resisted the urge to rub the sore spot and pondered how to go about drying the girl's soaked clothes.

He tried to use them as a source for water like he had been doing with the sink before, and it seemed to work well enough.

His stomach rumbled. Fish realized he was starved after a combination of excessive physical activity and use of magic.

"Want to go get something to eat when we're done here?" he asked.

Checking her jacket for any more obvious bloodstains, Keeya slid it on and zipped it up, putting the hood back up with a bit of a wince as fabric slid across her shoulders, "Sure! But I'm buying for you. Its the least I could do for all of it..."

She slid a pouch from around her neck out of her shirt and took out some money, counting it quickly, "I Think I have enough here for both of us to get some takeout without dipping into the spending money I've saved up without moving to my stash at home, but if you want something a little bigger I think I can upgrade us to a bigger meal."

Fish shook his head. "I'll pay, okay? I've got enough. I work."

She looked like she was ready to go, so he nodded for her to follow him and left the blockhouse. When they were back out on the street, he tried to reorient himself to the neighborhood. He didn't really like African cuisine, which was mostly what you would find in Micro-Zimbabwe.

"What do you want?" he asked. "We could go back to Baby Bangkok and get some good Pad Thai."

"I'm not gonna argue that -- Means I can put todays food money into my private stash.. As for food, Well..." Keeya looked Fish over, "I would normally suggest an actors high... Protein? yeah, High protein low fat diet of fish but I'm not sure thats the polite suggestion in this situation."

The emerald eyed wood elemental gave him a lopsided smile as they headed out of the public restrooms, sticking her hands into the pouch of her bloodied hoody, "But Pad Thai sounds interesting too -- never had it I don't think, but I've heard people say good stuff about it.."

She followed Fish in a while in silent thought, before looking over to him, "I hope, in the future, whenever alliances shift in the game, we can still be friends when whatever 'battles' we have are over, and keep it clean and sportsmen like." She bared her teeth in a big grin, laughing somewhat loudly, "Since my girls in it not to rule at the top, but just cause she's trying not to die out completely. She'd be perfectly fine simply being in the line up of lessers, you know?"

Fish nodded. Keeya was clearly a smart kid. She had ambition, and she knew where she stood. He would have patted her on the shoulder, but it probably would have hurt her.

"it's noodles in peanut sauce, and some vegetables and meat," he explained as they took Mugabe Street back towards Baby Bangkok. He was glad he'd taken the time to go on an adventure with the sulky little girl outside his apartment. He'd found himself a new friend and potentially a valuable new ally in the process.

Today had not been a day at all.

"I've got a feeling you're gonna go far, Keeya," he said. "Just stick with me."
