Well, if you guys remember from my post about weight issues a few weeks ago, I ended up changing my whole diet around. Took out gluten (wheat, corn), red meats, dairy, peanuts, soy, sugar, all pop, and some other things. I was feeling really great and had more energy than I'd had in honestly years... and then this hits me...
My sister gave me mono. crying Apparently she got it from some guy she worked with at the Renaissance Festival back in August, and of course there's been a few times I've shared drinks with her and thought nothing of it. I was beginning to suspect something was horribly wrong though, when I started sleeping 15 hours a day... and I ended up giving it to my boyfriend, too.
I've only known since yesterday that I do indeed have mono. What stinks is this is the THIRD time I've had it... you're only supposed to get mono once, and then it lays dormant in your immune system until you keel over in old age, so... WTG. gonk
I'm not sure what to do. I work at Hallmark part-time, and they're really short staffed, and we're not supposed to take any time off during 4th quarter because of the Christmas season... but my spleen is enlarged, so one customer bumping into me could make it go KAPOWWIE! whee
They got ticked off enough when I asked for Nov. 1st off, just for an endoscopy. My doctors are telling me I need to take at least two weeks off of work... I don't think if I got fired over that, that that would be legal, but... does anybody know how that works?
So, how would you recommend talking to a manager who's a Nazi to the max?

I actually think they can legally do that because you're taking too much time off. It would have to go into your vacation, I would think, for it to not be illegal. Is it morally right to do that? Probably not. I don't know though because I don't work yet.
I don't really know how you're supposed to talk to your manager either because I don't really know him. Just try and use your best judgement. Tell him the situation and what needs to be done, maybe you can make a deal with him telling him you'll work more after it or something.

Yeah, I'm not sure what to do. One of my coworkers knows, and we do know that it says in the corporate guidelines that they can't discriminate over health issues... The problem adding into the whole situation right now is that our manager walked out a month ago, so we have an interim manager until they officially hire a new person... she drives 45 minutes to our store from another one some distance away, and she's anything but ... civil... to the employees at the store.
I could get into that whole situation but I'd be sitting here typing all day. rolleyes Let's just say that there's several people with harassment lawsuits pending against her. sweatdrop ...maybe the best idea is to just go to my district manager?

Well, that's definitely a good one. It'll help your situation. I would just ask her, that's really all you can do. Deal with it accordingly after all the medical aspects are taken care of and you're well enough to deal with it.

Yep go as high up the food chain as you possibly can while still actually knowing the person. Get the doctors to put their recomendations in writing for you. I don't know about the states but if you are off work for medical reason you can actually put in to get some of you 'Employment Insurance' money back. It's not your fault you got sick and if a doctor says you are taking the time off then they have to let you have it.

Unless you take them as vacation days, they cannot legally fire you. If you are sick, they have to give you sick days.
