Character Information:

UnCert: [X]
Cert: [X]

Name: Aya Hitotsubashi
Family Trade: Publishing Company

Personality: There is no clear definition to Aya’s personality, though she seems to be enjoyable 9 out of 10 times in a day. Not one for the spotlight, she usually likes being around the main action enough to watch and make her part known, but place her in a situation that throws her into the limelight and she’s humbly decline and slowly recede back.
That isn’t to say that she doesn’t like action and will actively take a role when she is given one. More of a planner, she is usual struck with an idea and will proceed to fulfill her ideas the best way she can, either by involving others or working a intricate web to make the end result fall in place.

For the most part, Aya has the appearance of a studious and rather reserved person, with notebook pressed to her side. Most people use the words ‘quirky’ or ‘odd’ in her ways, as she will stop suddenly when a thought strikes her or when in conversation and bring out her notebook to write something. This often makes people put off with the idea of talking to her as if they are being marked for what they are saying and some have become offended by it. If it isn’t her unorthodox tendencies, she also has a habit of engaging into a conversation by asking question, debating, or bringing out an idea that would make some people prone to raise eyebrows. Let it be said that some students have made request that Aya see the counselor to check up on her mental health. She had a habit of biting on her pencils.

History: Aya was born as the only daughter of three siblings and was treasured as their families only girl. For that reason, her mother took grand attention on her and often took her at every chance to wherever she could since she was a baby, be it on the jet to visit another client or at her office with her child upon her knee. Her father also took his own care and paternal protection by keeping his own eye and heart upon her. They both wished to raise a woman that would be well rounded, easily liked, yet opened minded and clear to see the motives of others around her. For this reason, she grew up treated like an adult, though still pampered as a loved daughter. Despite their parent’s treatment, her bothers were of a different viewpoint and often roughed around her, exposing her to the ins and outs of male life.

Due to her families’ job, she was tutored to understand languages and cultures to better understand the clients that would frequent their home and also the works that where placed around the house. Exposed to multitude of books and the viewpoints of many authors, she grew up asking questions and a starving curiosity. This often lead her to pursue her own research, stepping the boundaries of her family’s social class with her exploring. Now older and more aware, she had come to realize and be treated with stern responsibility and she no longer has the excuse of youth and ignorance to go out and have the fun and experiences she wishes for, instead learning to dive into books and the world around her.

Contest Prompt

Prompt Number Chosen: Prompt 3: *Cheese
Prompt Reply:

“Sardo from Egypt.
Paneer from India.
Sewsew from Nepal and Brimsen from Austria.”

“Sirene from Bulgaria.
Esrom and Danbo from Denmark.
Germany’s Cambozola and …..and…. Ohhh. Yuri, can you tell me which this one is?”

Aya looked up from inspecting a peculiar cheese in one hand, narrowing a critizing eye as if she could see the name of the cheese and it’s orgins just by concentration. Nearby, Yuri and Yuki, twin housemaids, were flipping through books and looking back at the delivering listing that came this morning with a mountain for foreign cheeses.

It was a dark colored cheese with a marbleized gray outside and a heavy weight. That in mind, she looked about at the table they were using as their central base of study. The table was a hard cherry wood and had probably been a beauty of varnish and marbleized color but Aya’s father had not had the foresight in thinking that whatever table he gave to her to use for her many odd projects would result in it taking such abuse. Already it had scratches and nicks from projects long pasts.

Now silver platters where heaped in various organized bounds, with quickly drawn labels indicating the cheese name and origin. Upon deciding the area from which the cheese was native to, it was move on a map that had been placed on the table beforehand. However, this could hardly been seen with the various books that where not propped open, showing pictures of more cheeses and descriptions with photo gloss pictures. References, these tombs shared the limited space with the cheeses, giving the scent of mingling cheeses and old paperwork to waft in the air.

However, none of theses book were as important as the one that was propped open nearest Aya. It depicted no type of dairy product or pictures and instead was in mid-novel of a story. It was the sole reason Aya had undergone the project. She had currently been in mid book when Lord John, the main character, started to dine with his fellow officers on an abundance of cheeses. It struck her with grim realization that she had never tasted the cheeses they were sampling and was now handicapped to understand the full effect of the story without knowing the foods that they were eating. Feeling at a great reader’s disadvantage, she sent out immediately to have the widest arrange of cheese delivered as soon as possible. True, she could have settled for the few cheeses that were in the book, but it was always better to get one main project done thoroughly. She didn’t want to come across another book that showed another cheese and have to start a new project again. Like her father said. Best to do things right and completely or not at all.

“Miss Aya. Miss Aya. The cheese you have there. It’s.. Annn-ttthooo-ty-ro Xero. It’s from Greece. Crete specifically.” She said. The young girl beamed a smile at her and she smiled back as Aya reached out for the label pile and started to write a label before placing it in the pile for that area.

“Thank you, Yuri. Well, I think we better start.”

“Oh Miss Aya. Please don’t try too much. Just little bites. You’re ruin your dainty frame and your stomach with eating all this odd food. You could get sick.” Yuki said, the older-minded of the twins and more worrisome of the group. With her hand curled at her frown, she turned to the side, looking at all the cheeses with distaste. Anything that wasn’t from the head chief was seen as vile to her. “Maybe I should have called the doctor. Just in case.” She mumbled to herself.

“Oh Miss Aya. Wait!” Yuri shouted, eeping and causing Yuki to look up from her mumblings to gasp.

Without hesitation, Aya had picked out a selection and popped one of the cheeses into her mouth. Chewing slowly, she let the flavor sit in her mouth and looked over to the two house servants, who watched her with wide eyes and gapping mouths. Swallowing, Aya waited before sticking out her tongue. “Oh. That defiantly wasn’t a nice one.” She said, grabbing her notebook nearby and writing the cheese name and a description of it as the maids breathed out together.

“Give us some warning, will you Miss?” Yuki said, hand to her breast as she breathed with her sister.

“Okay. Then I’m warning you now.” Aya said as she took a snippet of parsley to clear her pallet before continuing. Her eyes roamed and she looked at a cheese that she had set to the side and now had a glass case atop it. Due to it’s pungent smell, they had all decided it best to set it aside.

“Better get this one done fast.” She said as she reached for the lid and lifted it, sending a fresh wave of a pungent smell that made Aya think twice about her decision. It was a cheese called Morbier and despite coming from France, it held no sort of elegant. It had an alien color and was layered with black that looked like ash. Cringing, Aya cut a small piece before leaning back and holing the piece. Both maids hushed and looked at her and Aya could see Yuki gulp hard.

Cringing, Aya hunched her shoulders and closing her eyes tight, popped the cheese into her mouth. Both maids squealed loudly as Aya chewed, finding it brave and remarkable that their mistress would go so far for research. Fortunately for Aya, it was not a bad cheese at all and she opened her eyes. In fact, it was very smooth and rich. Swallowing easily, she turned to them. “Not bad.” She said and both girls shook their heads.

“What is all this ruckus?” The voice was deep and raw and all three girls turned to the doorway where Mr. Hitotsubashi stood, rubbing the bridge of his nose and slanting his glasses. He was dressed in a lax suit, his tie neglected somewhere (Probably left in his study), and with a white book under one hand, yet to be approved and binded. He looked with with his warm, watery eyes and heavy eyeshadow underneath to the girls.

“We’re researching.” Yuri chimed, holding up one of the books for Aya’s father to see. He leaned in and read the title before looking at the table.
“I can see that. Cheeses?” He asked, looking over to her daughter.

Aya held up her recent book and her father smiled. He read the book before her and had passed it down for her to read. He was currently awaiting her opition of it. “I got to the part where he’s dining with Sebastian and found out I don’t know what he’s eating. Thus far, I really wished they had settled for something nicer. Like pastries.” Aya said, looking at a rounded cheese that, from reading from a nearby book, warned that it had a ‘unique taste’ that most people had to aquire before liking, if they ever did.

“Ah, but that’s how things go.” Her father said, going to the nearby counter to pick up a fruit to fuel himself before heading back to the door. “ Consider yourself lucky.”

“Lucky?” Aya said, looking up from her books and mountain of cheeses to her father.

“Yes. Lucky. Lord John could have always have eating haggises instead of cheeses.” He said with a smile, causing all three girls to squeal with disgust at the very thought.
