[FindingOFBottle]

The golden, morning sun slowly crept into the room of a petite girl, still very much asleep on her bed. Only when the oh so familiar serenade of the birds started outside her window did she awake from her slumber. "Oh crap" she cursed as she kicked the covers off her and got onto her feet. Today was a very important day for her and she wasn't going to ruin it just because she overslept.

There was much to do in the house today, considering it's her mother's birthday and they planned on going to the beach together. First thing first, she had to clean her home. It was a mess considering that her mother was bed-ridden and Haru herself was always busy in her shop. There was no reason for her to be lazy today since she had closed her shop. She took out an apron, some rubber gloves, a bucket and a mop and went off to start working. As she mopped the floor, she started giving thanks to whoever was up there. There weren't able to afford a large abode and it was one of those moment when she was thankful there were poor.

It didn't take long till the house was sparkling clean. Haru panted, letting out a slight sigh and she looked on. Just a small house and it took out almost all of her and there was still so much left to do. Next on her list was to bake pastries, which was one of her favorite activity to do. She had already prepare all the ingredients needed the previous night so it was jsut a matter of putting the things together.

The sound of mixing echoed through the house, though nothing was spilled in the process. Eclairs, muffins and a big cake was what resulted from the adventure in the kitchen. It was a lot of food for just 2 person but they didn't plan on eating it all, most of it would be given to the kids on the streets.Everything was pretty much settled, packed and ready to go.

"Mother, we're going off!" Haru shouted as she made her way up the stairs.

"Alright" her mother replied, her voice weak from her illness.

Haru quickly made her way up the stairs and into her mother's room. There she was, lying on the bed. Haru heart ached as she walked in, it was sad to see her mother in this state. She used to be so full of energy but one night, she took a 180 turn. It was the most shocking day of her life.

Haru walked beside her mother, a smile adorned her face. Her mother had already choose a dress she wanted to wear, it was a matter of helping her put it on.

A few minutes later, they were all ready. Haru assisted her mother down the stairs and out the door, the basket in her hand. The beach was a short walk away from their home but it took them quite some time as her mother couldn't walk very fast. When the arrived on the beach, Haru quickly set things up and sat her mother down.

The view was breathtaking, the breeze was blowing just right; It wasn't too cold for her mother. Everything was perfect yet something was harping at the back of Haru's mind. She seemed to have forgotten about something. Then it hit her. It was her mother's present.

"s**t..." she cursed softly before turning to face her mother. "Mother, I'll be back. There's something...I have to do." Haru stood up, bowed to her mother before walking towards the shores. Her plan was the get a few sea shells and make a necklace, a humble but handmade present.

As she kept walking, something reflected the setting sun into her eyes. It was highly distracting but if it shone like a diamond, it would most likely be something valuable. Haru gently skipped over to where the object was and she was stunned.

Laying there in the sand was a hand crafted bottle, as blue as the ocean water. It sparkled like diamonds and it was beautiful. She lifted it up and dusted the sand off. She took a look inside and she saw what seemed like scales. It was exactly what her mother would love.

She gave it a quick wash and dried it with the edge of her dress and went back to her mother.

"Mother, mother, look at this. It's for you!" she chimed, her face lit up. She took her mother's hand and left it in her hand. The bottle barely scratched up.

"Thank you my dear, it's very beautiful..." her mother returned a smile.

Today, was a wonderful day to her.

[REACTIONpartII]

Haru lay on her bed, her eyes fixed onto the ceiling. Her face was lit by a light blue glow that came from the top of the drawer just beside her. Ever since her mother had decided that her shop was too dull and boring and needed something, such as the bottle to brighten it up, Haru hasn’t had a normal day ever since. In the beginning, all she felt was just such strong urges to visit the beach and to dive into the sea. All that had change when she met Friday in her shop and they witness the bottle doing things that it usually doesn’t do. Like leaking furiously or having a mermaid encircling it.

With a yawn escaping her widened mouth, she turned her body to face the glowing glassware. The mermaid figure seemed to be asleep too. Her miniature head was resting on the bulb of the stopper on top of the bottle. Her rest of the body was wrapped around the neck of said bottle. Though it all happened rather quickly, Haru wasn’t as surprise as she thought she would be. She could already feel something was up with the bottle but nothing quite like this.

She gave a sigh, her eyelids closing shut. She was done with that day, done with all the surprise that was thrown and her and definitely she was done with the man that kept making her blush. Well, not really.

Off key.
(Dust Spin --> Child Quest*)

Something has been keeping the whole household - and the neighbours - awake at night. A noise similar to what one would imagine a cat being strangled underwater sounding like. At first all fingers pointed at the plumbing, but after a call-out that suspect was ruled out. After several more sleepless nights and working of tired brains the source was discovered! The bottle, tucked away in the draw, has been singing. Well, if you can call that singing... Turns out that the elegant mermaid figure's voice isn't as pretty as her appearance. However, it seems near impossible to prevent her nightly chorus - whatever is said to her simply falls on deaf ears! In fact, the added attention it's gaining only seems to drive the dust filled bottle to sing even louder... How can Haru and her mother get some well needed rest? What measures can be taken to avoid the watery warbling?

*Please note, there's a minimum word requirement of 500 words for this quest.

[Off Key]

Haru’s pillow was crushed against her ears. Night after night, the ghastly wails reminiscing that of a cat being drowned kept echoing through the house and out to the neighbour, repeating over and over much like a broken record player. Enough was enough and Haru could take no more, her patience was already at its limit. The bottle was ‘singing’ (Or at least, something that sounded vaguely like it) and it was very close on causing ears to bleed. The very first night was hilarious; the reaction of her neighbours had definitely made her day. It started out with the nearest neighbour; Mrs Press had called the plumber to her house. Apparently, she had thought that perhaps one of the neighbourhood stray cats had wandered into their sewage system. When the plumber left her house, he was having a hard time keeping a straight face. Mrs Press was insisting that there was really a stray cat being stuck in her pipes and it sounded like it was choking.

As the days went on, the scenario became funnier and funnier. Haru’s mermaid had felt braver about her skills and began singing louder. People within miles could even hear it, echoing in the background. Patrol groups were set up, checking along the shores for any suspicious characters, especially hooligans that were making the horrendous noise that was affecting the whole village.

Pretty soon, it began to be a nuisance for Haru’s family. Every single night, the retched voice would ring through her house as clear as a bell. A spoilt one at that.
...
“THAT IS IT!” she screamed, tossing her pillow against the wall and nearly missing the bottle. The mermaid was definitely not pleased with what she had done as it was crossing its arms and giving a look of disagreement that could be felt but couldn’t be seen. She quickly sat onto the bed and reached out, grabbing the bottle tightly at the widest part of the base. “Would you please, please stop singing” she begged and her eyes on the brink of overflowing with tears. The mermaid seemed to be please, her posture became more relaxed as compared to just a few minutes ago. However, Haru wasn’t so sure about it. She could still feel eyes glaring down on her, though she dismissed it as part of her imagination. She picked up her pillow and gave a rather long yawn and plopped onto her bed.

A few minutes of sleep were all that she had gotten when the damn noise began again. She knew this was coming but she was still pretty irritated. It didn’t matter to her that she wasn’t getting any sleep. It was just that she was worried about her sick mother, though she had bought some ear plugs for her. Haru was still pretty darn sure that the mermaid’s song could still be heard. Though she wanted to do something, she was too tired to move a muscle and after a long, long time she had managed to drift into her sleep. Nonetheless, it was not peaceful.

The next night she had to endure the very same thing. Her mind was so stretched that it was going to snap at any moment. Every single time she went forward and gave the retched bottle a scolding, it would come back up by singing even much louder than before. Haru swore that she saw the window glass shaking due to the voice.

Haru quickly got up and scavenged the house for anything that could be used to insulate voices. She took out scraps of cloth, extra mattresses from the guest room and little sponge padding she used for her clothes. She slowly dragged all the things, stacked dangerously on top of each other up to her room. She cleared her little closet, dumping all her clothes on the top of bed and began work.

She first took the mattress and pushed it towards the back of the wall. The little makeup desk was then pushed up towards the wall to support the mattress. The next few tasks were pretty much the same. Padding up the walls so that sound could not escaped (Or at least, as little as possible), little sponges stuffed into the holes just to be safe.

The only thing that was stopping her from a good night sleep was a bottle and a certain mermaid and that could be easily solved. She made a wild rush towards the table top that the bottle was located and she grabbed it, rolling it towards the closet. The little fish person was definitely not happy as it was screaming it’s lungs out. Haru was glad though, it became quiet for a few minutes before the song came back on but the disturbance was much less.

Sleep became very peaceful for the next few nights, the voice surprisingly because more easy to the ears. Every single day the voice began changing, the pitch became much lower, almost like a child. The singing surprisingly became much more pleasant to ears though it still needed practice.

On a rather stormy night, Haru got curious as to how the mermaid could get better will locked up. She stood in front of her closet and took a deep breath, preparing herself for whatever might pop up. She swung open the door and was stun at what she saw, a young child with a few quirky features...

“Why...?” was all that the little boy had asked.
