Winter. She had always hated it with a burning passion; the bitter, unforgiveable cold, the short days and long nights, the vast emptiness. No birds sang during the morning light, no bugs humming past her ears...there was no life in the dead of winter. Suffering a minor bout of seasonal depression every winter didn't make her life any better...but this could understood... It was this time of year her father passed away. Amber sighed as she looked out over the land before her. It was dark outside, the sun had set a long time ago, portraying a vast ocean of black, save for white snow that she could see outside her window. I just let go of everything I held dear... Tears filled her eyes as she touched the pendent at her throat; a dragon posing in the shape of an 's'. There was another half back home, that half belonged to her love. She couldn't help but smile as she thought of the word 'love' and how everyone would tell her she was too young to understand the concept of love. Her retort back would always be 'there is more than one kind of love, and if you're capable of knowing one love, you're capable of knowing them all'. Amber turned away from the window and sat down on the floor. Many people asked her why she was so certain that she wanted to do this and her simple response was that she'd had a strange connection with wolves. She never really could comprehend it...she dreamed of being a wolf during the night; able to go between wolf and woman, she'd always felt like she could understand wolves; why they would attack, why they would run, why they were the way they were. Of couse, she was no Seer, just an empathetic...Amber watched as two girls walked past, giggling and talking together. How far would they go? Would they be together though all of it? Would they get their wolves? Amber sighed again and let her mind slip...her mind took her back to the last year when she was so happy to have her strange family, her love, and a home they all shared...

Winter was always the one time of the year that Cassadaine found most enjoyable. True the cold was harsh and unforgiving but there was also beauty to be found in the frozen darkness that came when the sun slipped below the mountains. Tucking her hands into the pockets of her uniform the girl paused long enough to shake the golden tipped ebony locks from her face as she calmly drifted through the academy's halls.
This was the season for bonding with wolves...the season for love, a subject she didn't dare think about lest it ruin her mood and also the season when her family crossed her mind the most. Would her brother be roaming the halls of their home? Injured but alive, giddy with life as always? Would their mother be locked in the kitchen preparing the meals and tempting all who came near?
The thoughts made her frown before she let out a soft sigh. Always the wistful one. Shaking her head she focused on the path she was taking, pausing long enough to take in one of the girls that had somehow caught her attention. A sorrowful little thing...just like her it seemed.
