there were 4000 points of army on each side, with apocalypse rules.

the armies faced each other; the space marines with three land raiders and a mass of infantry led by the master of the chapter, the chief librarian, and the high priest. on the other side of the gorge, the necrons with numerous shining bodies lined up in formation.

turn one, the blood angels seized the initiative and charged towards their foe, death company in front, followed closely by the honor guard, with some squads giving covering fire from farther up the hill. the necron's destroyers were shot down quickly by the land raider terminus' lascannons and fire from the devastators silenced the wraiths. the other land raiders fired at the monoliths but the living metal held against their fire.
the necrons received their monoliths from deep strike and then opened fire, with all of the units standing back to fire at range. the death company didn't stand a chance against that much firepower and all of them perished in seconds. two of the monoliths concentrated their fire on the incoming command squad, while one decimated the terminus with its blasts. a few from the command squad fell, but dante and mephiston rallied their troops and kept coming.

turn two, the blood angels destroyed two of the squads of necrons on the far end, but most of the shots were weakened by the nightshroud of the monolith's combined power. still the command squad pushed to the assault, with the tactical squads falling behind
the necrons gauss weapons were finally in range of most of the space marines, and they opened fire, killing several marines in the assault squad and wiping out the squad behind them. the monoliths opened fire on them again, and the command squad lost its sanguinary priest but corbulo saved him with the exsanguinator. mephiston took several wounds but shrugged them off with feel no pain. then the far monolith got a lucky hit and destroyed yet another land raider.

turn three, the space marine's prayers were answered and the dreadnaughts arrived from orbit, two death company dreadnaughts tearing the far monolith apart. the command squad attempted to charge but failed to make contact with the foe.
the necron's monoliths opened fire again, destroying the final land raider and killing all from the command squad except for mephiston, dante, and corbulo.

turn four, the dreadnaughts destroyed the monolith in the middle, ending the nightshroud. with that, the three heroes charged the ranks of the necrons, attacking three units at once (perfectly legal but uncommon). mephistons might of heroes gave him 3 additional attacks in close combat, and all of his attacks hit, killing nine of the enemy single-handedly. dante killed a few himself, and corbulo even less. the necrons struck back, severely wounding all three of them. the necrons all had to fall back and since they were all on the table edge already, they retreated.
with only a few necrons left, they all phased out and the sons of sanguinius were victorious once again.
