In some parts of the world, like in my country, Halloween is not celebrated with trick-or-treating, having Halloween parties and ghost stories and the like. We have a different way of celebrating it.
November first is All Saints Day, a day in which we commemorate the souls of our dear departed. Families go to their respective mausoleums and clean the graves and offer flowers to their loved ones. We light candles and say prayers for the souls of all our relatives. After this, we light a candle outside our houses to guide the stray spirits floating around the world light and safe passage to their respective families. All Saints Day is seen as an outreach with the dead.
November second is All Souls Day. Old people say that it is in this time of the year when the devil comes out to play. Scary stories are told, and children ae cautioned while playing outside during the evenings.
How do you celebrate Halloween where you come from?

Are you from Mexico? blaugh
Our country has a similar way of celebrating Halloween too. Kids in the Philippines do not even know the term Halloween, but November 1st is All Saints Day too, and that's when people visit the grave of their families and clean it up (take out weeds etc) and lay wreaths/flowers and light candles. November 2nd is All Souls day (too!), and it's basically how you described it, although we have different scarey monsters.

Meh, I'm in the U.S. Candy is given to little kids, and doors are slammed in teenagers faces. Regardless as to whether or not they claim it's for religion. rolleyes Gotta love old people.

bloodlessxlife Sadly I have to say I am form America too. You gotta love how Christians will preach about it being the day of the devil then they have their little parties at their churches. So hippocritical. domokun I'm in the US too. Celebrating Halloween around here is all about costume contests, candy and teens throwing eggs at old people's houses and stealing then smashing children's jack-o'-lanterns - not to mention smashing tombstones. sad I really wish people would stop and take it as a day to remember and honor their dead. I went to a Catholic church as a child and even though they called Halloween 'All Soul's Day' it was really just a day for kids to wear their costumes to church and get candy at the altar. I can agree with finding it hypocritical because after I moved (not even half an hour away) I found myself surrounded by Christians who wouldn't stop complaining that Halloween was a Satanic holiday. rolleyes
