So... I have an old classical guitar from the 1960s. It doesn't have knobs for attaching a strap. Does anyone have any suggestions for something that I could use that would not damage the guitar in any way?

i'm afraid you'll have to screw in on at the bottom of the guitar. but if you buy an acoustic strap that has tassels to tie under the strings at the headstock you'll only have to screw in that one. i recommend levy straps btw.

Hmm... I just really don't want to drill holes in it, in part because it is so old and it has a nice sound.

I've been googling a bit, and something like Willie Nelson's might work in the short term... his attaches with a hook through the sound hole... but even that might put unnecessary stress on the instrument...

Classicals were never intended to be played while standing anyway.....

If I were you, I would not start hanging stuff off the guitar's soundhole.

Unless you are willing to screw a strap button into your guitar, you should probably forget about playing it standing up. As another user mentioned here, classical guitars were never really meant to be played standing up, which is why it was not designed with strap buttons in the first place.

If I were you, I'd leave it alone. Drilling holes into it and making alterations of this kind could damage the finish, mess with the guitar's tone, and lower the value of the guitar.

Just make a harness for it from nylon straps. Not too difficult. Take some nylon straps, a needle and thread (or super glue) and bam. Problem fixed.

They do make guitar stands that can hold the guitar up in playing position if you need it to play standing.
