Flogging Molly is no music to dance to in a traditional way, it is too much punk/rock for that. sweatdrop It's music to bounce around by, not do anything slightly sophisticated. @w@;

I like a few traditional tunes, namely Cooley's Reel, The South Wind and Old Hag. I've been trying to learn the bodhrán by playing along to Cooley's Reel for about a month now. I'm going to start practicing along to Old Hag as it's a jig and I need a lot of practice in that area.

I love Gaelic Storm, Great Big Sea, The Countdown Singers, The Chieftains, I could go on. The vast majority of my music is Celtic. Nobody ever even knows what Celtic music is...T.T
But let me tell you, the type of music I appreciate the most is the stuff like what I heard a few nights ago. I'm at college and in a set of dorms that surround an open area. A guy who goes to school here brought out his bagpipes and played them in front of everybody. It rocked my socks off because he mixed traditional songs with more well known ones and kept everyone's interest. It warmed my heart to see people being introduced to bagpipes and liking them. 4laugh
Oh, it feels good to be able to talk about the bands/type of music I like and have people acctually know what I'm talking about. rofl

i like flogging molly, dropkick murphys, the pogues and the dubliners (and i've listened to something of the chieftains)....i'm from italy and those are the only bands u can find here in this country.... but we have some bands which mix irish folk music to italian one and i think they'r good....i would love to listen to more bands but unfortunately is very difficult to discover new ones here....when u ask for those bands people in CDs' shops ask u if u'r joking....i discovered the pogues reading a book written by enrico brizzi, and then looking for them on the net i found something about FM, i discovered dropkick murphys watching the film THE DEPARTED....

start off with the pogues. they're punky enough to dance to, and traditional enough to be played at pubs. my favorite band, actually. heh. get ahold of the "if I should from grace with god" and "red roses for me" albums, they're the absolute best. can't stress that enough, shane macgowan is a bloody genious. if you want to, check out his solo stuff as well, even though it has alot of country influences, it's still amazing.
if you want guitars, I can recommend dropkick murphys, flogging molly, the tossers, the real mckenzies, blood or whisky, the bloody irish boys, greenland whale fisheries, the mahones and lots more I can't think of at the moment XD;
and um; the dubliners, wolfe tones, the chieftains, christy moore, the irish brigade, the clancy brothers and tommy makem if you like the more traditional stuff. IRA music is also catchy, and I guess since we're on an irish board, no one will bombard me with politics and s**t (hopefully)
