It had been a long time since Howl had did any wandering. Too long, as a matter of fact. He had settled down in the D'ob area, where there were plenty of females to flirt with. But after a while it grew rather...dull chasing after the same females day after day. So, that was then, about a week ago, that he decided to go out on his own again and wander. He had ended up here in Quirne.

The ocean breeze seemed to be a nice change from the grassy plains he was so used to. He closed his eyes as a sea breeze fluttered past him. This was where he would start his life anew.

Only a short distance away, a young Ichsa was staring out at the view. It was... vast, vaster even than the views from the high places in Fyhi because there was just water, blue-green water going on forever until it met the sky. Here was a place to be, she could happily spend seasons exploring this place, and meeting its people of course. D’ob had not been kind about her herd, but then she supposed she shouldn’t have expected it to be. Even many of the Jala whose opinions she’d managed to get thought they were despicable, but then again some hadn’t looked too sincere when they denounced the Katilenuck. If they had the spine, she considered with a smile, they’d probably go and join up.

Sighing contentedly to herself, Órlaith cast around herself; there weren’t nearly as many people here as there were in D’ob... Ah, but there was at least one; a large stallion a little way away... Was there something odd about him? Frowning thoughtfully, the diamond-patterned mare set off towards him at an easy trot. Anything, or anyone, somewhat out of the ordinary was definitely worth investigating further.

Howl didn't notice that someone was watching him from nearby. His thoughts were leagues away from where his body currently was. His most vivid thought was about the young Jala he had roamed around with. Tahmores, he thought was the name of the young stallion. Howl wondered where the Jala was. Probably with a mate by now.

He opened his eyes and gazed around him when he spotted a young Ichsa trotting towards him. He smiled kindly at her and spread his wings out, causing the coat on his back to do the same. "Well, well, well, who do we have here? A pretty little mare has decided to come enjoy my company," he said in a sikly-smooth voice.

Well that was strange; he had cloth coverings on him like she’d heard two-legs had, and such brightly coloured ones too. As the stallion spoke, Órlaith chuckled cheerfully and gave a slight nod. “Yes, it seems that I have. Beautiful day, isn’t it?” Quite a charmer this one; she did quite like to be flattered, she seldom got attention back home. “My name’s Órlaith,” the slim Ichsa said with a smile, “who’re you?” She did want to find out more about him, mostly because of the garments he wore; she’d never seen anything like it before... well, the queen did wear cloths sometimes but just over her back rather than covering legs and chest as well.

Howl flashed her another smile before bobbing his head slightly at her question. "Indeed, it is a very beautiful day. Not as rainy as the lands that I traveled through for the past few days. Very sunny and warm."

He bowed down slightly at Órlaith. "Wizard Howl is my name, though you can call me Howl." He then noticed that she was staring at his clothing and he shifted his body slightly to show off his outfit. "You like? A human put them on me when I was a child and since then I have been wearing them. She made my current outfit about a year ago when I stopped growing. I am quite attached to every stitch of clothing, particularly the coat. Do you like?" He tilted his head to one side and gazed at her curiously.

Órlaith tilted her head thoughtfully, trying to process what she thought of the strange things. “I think I like them,” she said eventually with a smile, “they’re very strange to me but they’re really quite pretty and I imagine they keep you warm in winter. I like the pink and grey thing - the coat? - especially as well.” It wasn’t something she’d care to wear herself, but it certainly was a nice possession. If she could have perhaps a rug like that, or decoration and furnishing for her sleeping place she’d certainly be happy with it... Well maybe not in pink; she couldn’t see pink suiting her at all, not with the red and orange she had on her.

“So you’re a new arrival here as well are you?” the slight mare went on after a moment. “This is the first time I’ve ever been to Quirne; I didn’t expect it to be so... well, so big, and the air smells lovely here too.”

Howl smiled kindly at her when she said that she liked his attire. "Why thank you," he said in a sweet voice. "It is very nice to have when the snow falls in the Winter-time. It was true. The coat had saved his wings from being frostbitten for several Winters. He was thankful that he hadn't lost it yet.

Howl gave her a slightly confused look when she asked him if he was a new arrival and then he shook his head slightly. "No, I have been here for several years. I've just been wandering around for most of my life. I am a wanderer at heart but for the past several months I've been in D'ob. I guess my mind was set to stay there for a while but then my wandering lifestyle kicked in again and I was back on the road." He paused for a few moments to catch his breath. "I came here because I had never been to this place before, despite me being here for a while. I figured that it was about time that I came here to see if this is a good place for me to stay for a while until I start wandering again."

Órlaith nodded along to the Aeri’s words; seemed like he got around the place a fair bit. “I came here because I’d heard form a lot of people that it was very pretty, and it’s just as nice as they said... Doubt I’ll stay long though; I’ve other places to explore before I head home, people will start worrying about me if I don’t turn up again pretty soon.” Dahak would lose face, too. She knew a lot of people probably thought that, one turned loose, she’d never return to the herd. She couldn’t have that; she did like the tall Shaman, she didn’t want to do anything to sully his reputation.

Howl tilted his head slightly and gazed at her with a curious look on his face when she began to talk again. So, she had a family to go home to. That was something that he didn't have and quite possibly didn't see himself having sometime in the future, whether it be distant or far away.

"It is good that you have decided to see the world instead of having others tell you about it. Wandering tends to do good things for others, whether they be bad or good." He let those words drift away as he stared out towards the ocean again. Was the wandering that he was doing good?

Órlaith smiled and followed the Aeri’s gaze out to the ocean. “I think it’s doing me good,” she said after a moment. “I’ve met so many different kinds of people, and seen so many different sights. I feel like I hadn’t really grown up back home, but I’m on my way to doing that now and I’m sure I’ll appreciate home all the more for having been away, too.” There was something to be said for being what she was. Every basic need taken care of, and in her case at least no backbreaking work of abuse. An idyllic sheltered life where all she had to do was exactly what she was told, and then these times out in the world when she was alone, fending for herself but doing as she willed. It was a lovely balance, for sure.

“I think I might go to Ryuten next,” she added after a few moments of silence, “or maybe the crystal lands... Or maybe I should save those things for my next trip away from home and just stay here until it’s time for me to return. I think I might do that; there must be so much to see along the cliffs and on the beach.”
