Lance Corporal Jonathan Coup de Grace
Currently with Alpha and Delta Squads
Destination: Covenant Relic

Jonathan shook Kai's hand, and gave an expression of thanks. Before boarding the pelican, he looked at the survivor's and then the dead. He couldn't see much of a difference between the two. The private's would live on, only to fight and die another day. This war was more deadly then the Spanish Influenza, back almost 600 years ago. Jonathan sighed, and the cold breeze of the wind on his face brought him back to reality, as the Pelican went to Alpha Base.
Arriving, he visited the medic. Then, he suited up again, with new armor and headgear. His injuries weren't as grave as people had assumed, and the only thing new on his body was were a brand new scar across his lower cheek, were plasma had scrapped and burned, would be.
Following his new squad, he saw the outpost. The whole of it wasn't too big, but something seemed wrong. Maybe his SRS99C felt too heavy-he couldn't tell. But he just felt wrong. The glint of armor foreign even to him in the distance made him fell even stranger, and he shivered-like someone had dumped cold water on him.
Hearing the captains bicker broke his concentration on the strange feeling. He walked over to them and began to assess the situation. Jonathan thought extremely difficultly-the place was surrounded by hills...rolling hills. Jonathan's mind clicked.
"Excuse me Captains..." He said, and realized how rude he was. He straightened up and then saluted the two.
"Lance Corporal Jonathan Coup de Grace, sniper of the former Bravo Six. I have an idea, sirs. May I continue?" He said. As neither man tried to have him sent away, he continued.
"Why don't you open fire with the assault units first? Spread the rocket and sniper units out, more along the sides-if I could correctly calculate, the Covenant would go for the middle. And, if they have reinforcements, then we-referring to the units on the side-could fight them off. We have the high ground advantage." He said, but stopped as the Captains glared, indicating they understood. Jonathan polished his rifle, and prepared for either option.

It's not that, 500 miles would put you in space and then some. Most planes have a cruising altitude of 3200 feet which is about .6 miles. And I know you like the right-aligned posts, but they're making our eyes bleed. - Supes

Private Kai
Location: Covenant Outpost
Destination: Covenant Relic
After the captains glared at Jonathan, they both got up. "Alright soldiers!" said both Captains as both squads gets up. "Everyone split up into three groups! The first group will be a sniper group! The second group will be the assault team. The third group will be the rocket group!" said both captains as they crossed their arms. "Snipers! you guys will run along the left side of the mountains and wait for the assault team to get the covenants attention. That's when you guys will pick off the covenants from up high. Rockets! you guys will run along the right side of the mountains and wait for contact. Reinforcements will surely show up. That's when you guys take them out! Everyone ready!?" yelled the Delta captain. "Yes sir!" yelled the marines as they quickly gather into there groups. "Move out!" yelled the captains. Kai quickly grabbed his MA5C from his back and rushed forward with the assault group. Kai quickly looked at the other teams along the mountains. Both teams were already in position. Everyone is just waiting for the assault team now.
As the group got closer the grunts and jackals quickly took noticed and started firing their plasma pistols. Kai quickly shot a few rounds and then took cover near a rock. Kai looked as a plasma grenade stuck on one of the marines and blew him into pieces. "Grenade!!!" yelled Kai as the he threw a grenade out from cover. Kai then quickly shot a few more rounds as he dunked to reload. The grenade manage to kill a couple of jackals. But several grunts and jackals were already dead thanks to the snipers.
After a few minutes the outpost was cleared. But suddenly one of the marines was stabbed with an energy sword. Several elites came out of their cloaking form and ran at the marines screaming their monstrous voice to scare the marines. The warthogs quickly came to the marines aid as they managed to knock some elites over. There were about fifty elites attacking the marines. Kai quickly took cover as he looked over to where the rocket group was. Several of rocket were flying directly at elites. Within seconds the impact killed most of the elites. The rest were on the ground bleeding to death. Kai then walked out of his cover and walked over to an elite that was still alive. The elite was on his knees as he saw Kai coming towards him he yelled out and swung at Kai with his energy sword. Kai dunked but was hit in the head knocking his helmet off. Kai then tackled the huge elite with all of his force. Kai managing to knock the elite down quickly used his advantage to finish off the elite. "Take this!" yelled Kai as he took out his last grenade, and pulled off the string, and shoved the grenade down the elite's mouth. The elite was choking as Kai got up and backed away. The grenade blew the elite apart splattering it's blood all over the place. The elite's blood was even on Kai's face mixing in with his own blood from his head. A marine then ran over to Kai and wraps a bandage around his head as Kai goes and leans down on a rock. Kai felt dizzy after being hit from the energy sword. He was lucky to be alive.

Jonathan heard his orders and went with the snipers. Arriving just as the fight started, Jonathan went prone, and then took a shot at some poor grunt. His purifier exploded, and the grunt shrieked as he succumbed to the oxygen. Jonathan shot a jackal next, making his hand slap the jackal behind him. This continued for the next 10 minutes-the plan had worked. Jonathan felt satisfied with his progress-but the bitter-sweet taste of a counter-attack felt sprayed among his stomach. He knew something was wrong. An elite squad dove into the flanks of the snipers, and the group fell into disarray-bullets and plasma flew everywhere. When an arm finally flew at Jonathan, he thought logically. Removing his hunting knife, he leapt on the back of an Elite. Dispatching his foe, he moved to the next. Unfortunately, his opponent was just as smart. He sprinted forward, and the sword dug into flesh. But not Jonathan's.
Jonathan's former opponent lay on the edge of the sword, impaled by it's own brother. Jonathan pushed forward, and then knocked his current over. In the sheer confusion that happened, Jonathan grabbed his rifle and sprinted. He took cover less than 50 feet away, the rest of the fight seemed like miles away. He just began to take shot's-one Elite, two Elite, three Elite's...the other surviving snipers saw Jonathan's strategy and moved backwards, now holding them at bay with their pistols. Slowly, but surely, the Elites began to litter the battle floor. Jonathan thought he was the victor in all of this-but an energy sword pierced his arm. Nerves split, tendons were broken and even bones were splintered.
Jonathan cried in agony, but a fellow sniper made the Elite's blood spray. Pain soared up his arm, and he blacked out...

A few minutes later. Reinforcements arrived from Alpha base. Kai's dizziness stopped as he walked around to check on Jonathan. Kai didn't see him around anywhere. That's when he saw him lying on the ground. A fellow sniper also ran over to Jonathan. Kai raised up Jonathan's head from the snow. "Hold on sir! A pelican is on the way!" said Kai to Jonathan. Kai quickly took out a bandage and wrapped it around Jonathan's arm. A few minutes later a pelican arrived to pick up the injured. Kai helped lift Jonathan into the pelican with the help of another marine. "Don't worry sir! You'll make it!" said Kai as he gets off and the pelican leaves. Kai then gathered up some ammo and some grenades from his fallen comrades and regrouped with his squad.

As fast as it had started, it was over.
Most of what happened after the destruction of the Covenant base and the destruction of the detonator was a blur to Forge. There was shooting, some death, and a couple explosions along the way both friendly and hostile. He remembered seeing bodies - lots of bodies, but like most of the Marines he served with he was trained to overcome the nausea at the loss of life. It had actually been a quick battle, and Forge was glad that they had a couple Scorpion MBTs and Warthog LAAVs on their side. It didn't take long to complete their objective. Now it was time to check out what they had found.
Sergeant Forge and Professor Anders, flanked by four Marines descended into a very alien structure. The bodies of dead Covenant soldiers littered metal floor, and the dismantled Covenant bomb was being looked over by UNSC techs. The Professor's bodyguard moved closer to the center of the ancient structure, captivated by the strange sense of familiarity that oozed from the alien architecture. It was as though they had all seen it before, but never known about it until now. Anders spoke softly, and her words were swallowed up by the alien materials. The lack of an echo, despite the cavernous size of the structure, was slightly unnerving.
"Sergeant, is this what the aliens were after?"
Forge's words were equalled muted, but he spoke with a kind of forced reverence. He was impressed by their surroundings sure, but his thoughts were focused more on their safety. There were many different doors leading deeper into this installation, and the Covenant could be hiding behind any one of them.
"Seems so ma'am. They sure paid a price trying to defend it. All quiet now."
Forge held up his fist and the Marines escorting them fanned out in a defensive formation. Anders approached a glowing holographic console and stared at it intently. The sphereical shape was covered by glyphs that were tantalizingly familiar. She reached for one and Forge caught her hand.
"Hey! What are you doing?"
"Nothing ventured, nothing gained."
Anders wrenched her hand from the Sergeant's grip and reached for the holographic sphere. As if the machine sensed her hand, the sphere rotated until several symbols rested beneath her palm. She swallowed once and tried to remain calm. This was an unprecidented find. Her hand made contact with the glowing blue hologram and a shower of sparks cascaded around the sphere. She withdrew her hand as the machinery around them began to glow and hum. The humming grew louder and louder until it drowned out all other noise. A beam of light shot from the console into the ceiling, and from that beam came a brilliant flash. When the bright light subsided, a field of holographic stars surrounded them. Slowly, small lines began to link them together. This was indeed an unprecidented find. Anders looked closely at the tiny worlds and studied them closely. A few of the planets seemed familiar, others were complete mysteries.
"Now that's... not what I was expecting..."
As the humans watched the strange hologram, several Covenant warriors emerged from the shadows. Their camouflage systems rendered them invisible to the naked eye, and thus they were able to eliminate the humans patrolling the interior of the relic. The leader of the strike team deactivated his camouflage first and barked his orders.
"Heresy! Remove this filth!"
The Elites attacked with a flurry of needles. The first round embedded in the back of an unlucky Marine and detonated, shredding his innards and killing him instantly. As soon as their attention was diverted, the machine projecting the star map deactivated itself, as if sensing a hostile presence.
"Take cover!"
Forge pushed Anders back, behind one of the many monoliths rising from the ground. The Marines fell back behind the monoliths on the opposite side of the bridge. Forge glanced back at the approaching Covenant targets then nodded to one of the Marines that had dug into cover. The Marine nodded back and tossed the Sergeant a shotgun. Forge caught the weapon and racked the action. Time to get to work.
"These guys just don't know when to quit!"
The Marines couldn't win this fight by staying in cover. Forge and the others leaned out of their hiding places and opened fire on the Covenant. They were able to claim three kills before the Covenant were able to return the favor. One marine took a round to the shoulder and lost most of the meat. Forge caught him as he crumpled to the ground, his arm held on only by a few tendons and the cloth of his uniform. The Sergeant set the man down gently and contacted the Spirit of Fire. They were outnumbered and outgunned, this was suicide.
"Uh, Spirit? Forge, we're gonna need a little backup!"
