The sun set slowly, and all around certain flowers slowly closed their delicate petals. Beauty gasped softly and brushed off the stone flecks that remained from her sleep. She smiled as she looked around a moment, the moon slowly kissed the night blooming flowers giving her eyes a treat. Still, nothing could hold her gaze quite as long as the written word.
She strolled up into the library and quickly snatched up the book of plants she had been committing to memory. Nightwing had begged her for information on where to gather or grow the prettiest flowers, no doubt that rogue was trying to charm some new female. She shrugged, it wasn't her place to judge him after all she was just as eager to learn information as to impart it.
She glanced away from her book every once in a while to jot down notes and make small sketches in the margins of the parchment. She used her claws to carefully hold the quill taking care not to smudge the ink.

Daralis stretched and shook the stone from her hair as she shook off her wings and looked to the flowers that had just opened as the moonlight shined down on them. She smiled and pushed her hair back and headed to the library. Someone had told her that there was a female, named Beauty, who went to the library alot and she could read, maybe Daralis could talk to her and ask her to read some stuff on the plants in the books so she knew what kinda plants she was seeing in the forest. She looked around the halls as she headed to the library, she didn't like being confined in the walls, it wasn't natural and she felt cramped. She wrapped her wings around herself as she walked.
She got to the library and saw the door had been open and there was someone in there. She opened the door and saw another gargoyle in there, dressed in yellow with long brown hair. She smiled softly as she walked in. "Are you Beauty?" she asked softly as she walked in and pushed her hair back. She stood near the table that she was sitting at and saw ink on her claws and the writing she was working on, as well as sketches. She smiled, this had to be the female they told her about who would help her. She looked at the female with s smile, hoping that she would be nice enough to help her.

Something actually managed to turn her attention from the book, a sound? She looked up and smiled at the other female as she entered. Normally her only company were the shadowy images her mind summoned after a lengthy descriptive passage. She looked a bit surprised that the other seemed to have come for her specifically.
"Yes, that is what the humans have called me..." She gave a small wry smile, the name still amused her, for she doubted she was at all beautiful compared to her winged sisters. Even the lovely purple female before her was a prime example of loveliness. Besides she prided herself on her intelligence, not her features. She took a small cloth and wiped the ink from her claws giving the parchment a soft blow in the hopes it would dry without smudges.
She stood and stretched her wings "How may I assist you sister?"

Daralis smiled at her. "Good. I was wondering if you could help me out. I've been searching the forest trying to learn everything i can about the plants there and i want to know their names. I've been working on drawing them too." she said with a smile as she pulled her journal out of her belt. It was kinda sad looking, just some paper held together with strips of leather. She looked down at it and smiled. "I don't know if their as good as your sketches but i think their ok." she said as she set it down. There was a large nicely done drawing of a willow on the front of the journal. "I could you tell me the names of them and maybe show me a little on writing?" she asked softly as she looked at her sister with a smile.

Beauty's eyes lit up when the other female pulled the tied parchment out and showed it to her. She carefully examined the pages and the sketches and smiled.
"These are very beautifully done, you certainly have far more raw talent that I. Let me see if I can't find you a more sturdy sketchbook though...It would be a shame for this to get ruined." She carefully set it down and turned her eyes scanning the library first before she traced leather spines with gentle claws. She pulled a thin bound volume and smiled.
"Here we are, this one is yet untouched, you can sketch and practice what words I show you." She walked back over and handed it to her. "Your quite fortunate actually...I was just reading an entire volume on the new science of Botany, the human study of the plants and flowers. It is most interesting, and like all things the humans have put a great many names to each flower, plant, and even the weeds." Her voice was breathless now carried away in her passion for what she had read.

Daralis smiled widely as Beauty got her a properly bound journal and handed it to her. She took the book. She held it to her with a smile and hugged the book. "Oh thank you! This will help alot!" she said with a smile. "And i don't think their that good are they?" she asked as she looked at her old journal. She would save it even though it wasn't in good shape. She listened as Beauty talked about what the humans have done. "Botany." she said rolling the word around. It was a weird word but the humans liked to name things strangely. She looked at the book that Beauty had been reading and smiled. "They have names for all of them?" she asked as she picked up the book and looked at the pages carefully. She saw quite a few plants in there that she saw in the forest. "Oh i know that tree!" she said as she smiled and looked at all the images. She set the book down and looked at Beauty. "Is it hard to learn to write and read?" she asked as she sat down in another seat and waited for Beauty to teach her more.

"Yes they have been giving every flower, plant, tree...everything they can a name, two names even! It's quite interesting how humans try and order the world, they think to make the most amazing constraints with words." She smiled and pointed at the tree. "They call this one a Weeping Willow, for they say it looks as if the tree is weeping. Yet in the world of science they call it the Salix Babyloncia, it is most intriguing. Yet I have come to understand better and tolerate now how the humans name us all."
She smiled and waved Daralis into a seat "Have they given you a name sister?" She looked at the other female curiously.
She glanced at the book for a long moment and shook her head "I do not think it is hard to learn, but one must desire the knowledge and ability, one must be willing to work on it. As a warrior practices by sparring for a battle, so too must one practice writing and reading to gain the most one can of the abilities."

Daralis gasped. "I'm so sorry for not telling you my name sooner. I'm Daralis. And its nice to meet you. And i'm willing to learn it all! I've always had a fascination for the plants that i'd love to put a name to them all." she said as she looked at the picture she had drawn of the willow. "It makes seance the name. I like both of them." she said as she looked at it. "How do i start?" she asked as she looked up at Beauty. "Will it be ok to start now?" she asked excitedly.

Beauty smiled at her enthusiasm and nodded moving to pull down another book and sit. "No time like the present, with the night still young. I think we'll start you off easy though, first you must learn the alphabet. Once you have memorized the sounds for each character I think the reading will come easily."
She pulled a loose sheaf of parchment over and wrote out the alphabet being careful not to smear the ink. "These are the characters, once you learn them and how they are used, they can be combined. They form every word in every book, here and throughout our world." She smiled.

Daralis smiled, glad that someone was willing to teach her. She was looking forward to learning from Beauty, this was going to be so much more fun! And maybe she could have Beauty come out into the forest and she could show her the beauty of nature that she was reading so much about. Daralis looked down at the characters on the paper that she had written out. "So what sounds do they all make?" she asked as she looked at them wondering about them all. She pulled a stip of leather off her old journal and tired up her hair to keep it from falling into her face while she learned.

With patience and care Beauty went through the fist half of the alphabet explaining the different sounds for each letter. How the A had a sharp 'A' sound and a softer 'ah' sound and so forth. She waited allowing Daralis to repeat each one and offered her some ink so that she could try and write them out for herself.
There was a joy that came from teaching another and especially when her pupil was so enthused. Finally she glanced out the large windows and smiled turning back to the page. "Perhaps we should pause for the night, I've gotten so caught up in showing you...but the learning is a slow process. Your doing so well though."
She poured some ink into a small vial and placed the stopper in the top. "Here, you can take this to practice incase your busy tomorrow evening or can't find me. I'm almost always here, but I do like to go out and stretch my wings every few nights."

Daralis was enjoying the learning. Writing them was kinda easy, she had good practice coping things after drawing plants, so she was able to write them a little easy, though she made them kinda big, she didn't like trying to write small. She sounded out the letters with her memorizing them with the letter. She was happy about them though, they looked pretty good for her first try, she thought.
She looked up at Beauty as she put the stuff away. "Would you like to come out and see some of the forest with me? I'll show you that tree i drew and you can tell me the names of some of the plants and trees. Is that ok with you?" she asked as she took out her leather strip and let her hair down and stood, stretching her legs and her wings with a little shake. She looked out the window as she put her journal's together and held them, watching Beauty hoping that she would want to go out there with her.

Beauty seemed mildly surprised at the invitation, yet it tempted her, she hadn't been out in the night sky with her own kind in quite some time. With a nod she put away the last book and brushed a strand of hair from over her eyes.
"I should like very much to join you, and I'll be happy to point out what I know for you." She offered Daralis a smile and headed out and up to the castle turrets so they could catch a current of wind. She felt a flutter of excitement as the night air brushed her wings. She stretched them open slowly luxuriating in the feeling as the wind caught at them and beaconed her to soar and glide.

Daralis smiled happily. "Thank you!" she said as she followed her out to the turrets. She walked to the edge of them and flared her wings out widely enjoying the feeling of the wind filling her wings. She looked to her sister and smiled. "Follow me." she said with a smile as she held her journals to her chest and leaped into a sudden wind change. She flew down towards the forest and landed just at the edge of the forest. She wrapped her wings about her and looked to Beauty. "Welcome to the forest."

The glide down was remarkably refreshing after so many nights spent tucked into the library. She smiled as they landed at the forests edge and her eyes scanned about curiously picking out plants, flowers, and trees she had read about. Her memory pulled a roughly sketched map that had been done of the land by some curious human.
"It is most beautiful..." She turned her gaze to the moon and smiled remembering lunar charts she had been keeping happily in track with the human calender. They celebrated certain days and nights, always looking for new adventure and creating 'traditions' for themselves.
She smiled as she spotted a nearby bush, it was heavy with ripe dark blue berries. Beauty moved to kneel infront of it and pluck one up holding it out to Daralis. "It's a dew berry bush, their very sweet. The humans use them sometimes to make their wine."
