The warmth of the suns rays on her skin was alone enough to make the gym assistant smile. Shielding her eyes with a hand, Choppi looked up into the sky and spotted no clouds at all. Gripping her sketchbook tighter in her hand her heart beat faster in her chest fuelled by the thrill of a fresh day. Today was going to be an adventure, she could just feel it.

Pulling her left pokeball from its adornment around blue pigtails, she tossed it into the air with enthusiasm. So much that she struck a silly little pose. Grinning as a red laser light summoned one of her dear Pokemon, she quickly stepped forwards to greet it. The pale Stantler bobbled her head up and down in a rather bird-like manner, before nickering softly at her trainers appearance at her side.

“Hello dear girl.” Choppi giggled, patting her reindeer Pokemon on her nose. “Time for another sketching day, just us two right?” Winking at Picasso, she pulled her pack from her shoulders, and in one motion, hooked it on the side of her antlers. Adjusting to the slight weight change, the Pokemon replied happily. “Stant!” Her little tail wavered in little waggles of joy.

It was days like this with her Pokemon, that made the days worth it. All that gym training was nice, but to get out and really just have fun and enjoy the others company…that’s what it was about. Placing her hands on the Stantlers back, she swiftly hopped up onto Cassie’s back, despite her short stature. “And don’t worry, I brought plenty of emerald green crayons for you to doodle with. I can’t believe last time you ran out.” With another pat to the head, the reindeer took off at a slight trot deeper into the more wooded area of the outskirts of the city.

While Zatao was a great land, there was still a lot of wild to be tamed, and it thrilled the watcher. Always more Pokemon to spot, but still able to be living in the city was wonderful too. The pair began their quest, as Choppi let the Stantler take the lead in where they’d sketch today.

Watchers and trainers were not the only humans enjoying the warm, clear weather. A ranger clad in full uniform was walking along an old game trail while munching on an apple stolen from his fellow Ranger back at the base. While Choppi thought today would bring adventure, Mike thought the exact opposite; after dealing with that mess in the city a day or two ago, the nineteen year old just wanted to take it easy today.

Stepping over a root sticking out of the ground, he spat out a worm that had managed to find its way into the fruit before stopping and burying the leftover core in the ground. As he stood and brushed away the dirt clinging to his already messy uniform (he had taken a tumble before entering the forest) a delicate purr caused him to glance up and stare into the eyes of his pokemon partner, a large Luxray with a feather accessory hanging by his ear.

"Howdy Battle." A grin lit up the humans' face, causing the stern pokemon to reach out and fwap him lightly on the knee; the large claws clipped the skin left exposed by the shorts Mike wore.

"OW! What was that for?!"

An irritated snort was his answer.

"What? OH! Yer upset over me takin' Chads' lunch, huh?"

Battle Royale nodded and purred in agreement. Mike simply slapped his face before pinching the bridge of his noses. Was his friend born to be a Ranger Pokemon or something?

The bouncy little forest tour that Cassie gave, was always a treat for Choppi. Not today it seemed. Pulling out her mini binoculars from a side pocket on her belt, she gazed through them seriously scanning the trees for signs of life. Outside of the odd Kakuna strapped to a tree branch, and a Wurmple scooting by, nothing seemed to be really worth sketching. At least…not to Picasso. Trotting right on, she seemed to have a goal in mind.

“You know dearie, you can sketch something other than four-legged Pokemon for once.” She said offhandedly to her partner, as Cassie blushed at those words. She was a doodler trying to perfect drawing quadrupeds, so that she could make another doodle for her friend, Aman. “You are such a sweetie, but does he really need more than one portrait of himself? I mean, what does a Pokemon do with a sketch anyways…” The girl pondered, losing the battle against random thoughts.

“Stantler.” She protested lightly, and Choppi patted her on the head. “I was kidding. Sketch was you like.” Looking straight up into the sky with the lenses, she hoped to spot something flying. Suddenly, the reindeer stopped dead in her tracks. Letting the binoculars drop around her neck, the watcher leaned forwards and hugged her pokemon’s neck.

“What is it girl?” Choppi queried, her long hair flopping forwards as she did so. Cassie’s ears twitched intently, and taking a few more steps through a crowd of bushes stopped again. Choppi sat up as tall as she could, trying to get a view of what her Pokemon had stopped at.

Along a gradual slope was a heard of munching Taruos, completely engrossed in snacking. A breath passing her lips in the form of a gasp, she rubbed her eyes for a moment. What were these guys doing out here? Some sort of game? Hopping down from her steed in wonder, she rested a hand on one of Picasso’s antlers as she gazed at the herd. A low whistle escaped her, as she shook her head. “What are you beasties doing in the place like this?”

The arguement would have continued between the two had a breeze not caused Royale to perk up and stare in the direction of the southeast. Nose flaring at the strong scent of pokemon, the Luxray growled softly before glancing back at his friend.

"*sigh* Right right, gimme a sec. Impatient cat." Despite the laid-back tone he used, Mike knew how important this mission was. Accessing the styler strapped to his wrist, the Ranger looked at the message sent via Operator.

Apparently, some rich guy from johto wanted to try and breed some pokemon. Thus, he had come and built a small ranch near the city; choosing a large group of Tauros, the guy had made an attempt to train them but...having no experience as a trainer OR breeding, that had gone south. Angered, the pokemon had torn apart a great deal of the place before fleeing into the woods nearby.

Mike could only sigh and shake his head before he darted after the Luxray. Now he had to clean up the mess someone with a lotta money and a lotta time on their hands but with minimal amounts of common sense had made. Great....

"Friggin' b*****d. I swear once I get into town and get ahold of that guy..."

“Ah-haha!” The girl smiled, sitting in the grass and sketching away at the Pokemon before hers. Cassie had a green crayon in her mouth and was poking timidly at the paper in the attempt to doodling something even a bit Taruos looking. Patting her pokemon’s head, she took a moment to watch the heard move, as she folded her sketchpad closed.

“They have brands on them…but I didn’t know there was a ranch around here.” She spoke to the preoccupied reindeer. “I can’t tell which is the leader…there’s so many besides that…”

It was a trait that the girl had picked up in traveling with the Pokemon pair she had. Talking out loud to them as if they could actually talk back was wishful thinking, but Choppi knew they listened. Now giving up on the drawing, Cassie began to munch on the crayon. Tsking and scolding her, the watcher snatched it from her mouth. “Picasso C. Stantler! You know better.” She was replied with a sheepish look.

However, in these moments with her back turned to the path between her and the forest… a small group of Sparrow flitted past. A delinquent group by the looks of it, and up to no good. By the time she turned back, she saw the gaggle of birds swooping over the bulls heads. Dread crept up in her gut, and her face paled. Not good. She’d even stayed downwind! This was the part of watching that was not fair.

"Owowowowow....Argh! Stupid thorn bushes...stupid roots sticking out of the ground and trippin' people...."

Battle Royale looked back and let something similar to a smile slip onto his face as he watched Mike struggle with the unknown vegetation growing around and on the old game trail. Now he had tripped, gotten back up and was attempting to pull his boot free from a sticker bush they had walked through.

The luxray was making no attempt to help, despite the stream of curses and pleas coming from the humans' mouth.

"Ggggggrrrrrrr.....Gosh darn it! ARGH!" Mike pulled and pulled but to no avail. He stopped and crouched down to cool off and catch his breath before he ripped the entire plant out of the ground by accident.

In one motion, Choppi got her start as she hopped into action. Slipping her sketchpad into her bag, she grasped the picture that Cassie doodled and shoved it in as well. Snapping the pack shut, she pulled it off and swung it over her own shoulders. “Cassie hun…we gotta go.” She said hurriedly to her Pokemon as the watcher fumbled with her ponytail pokeball. As she grasped it, the ball slipped from her digits and hit the grass. Upon stopping to kneel over it, dread churned her stomach to a stop. It was rattling.

Looking up, she saw the Sparrows diving into the herd, testing out their drill peck attacks…and the Taruos were already in motion. Hooves slamming the ground, they were charging in blind rage and confusion through the plains before her…quickly heading into the woods. This was bad. But still, the beauty of Pokemon acting on instinct…was something she paused to watch. However, it lost her time as the group of bulls turned and came towards the wooded area where she sat.

"HEY GIRL! GET OUT OF THE WAY!"

Mike's shout of warning went unheard as the Tauros, already upset by the Spearow annoying them, flew into a rage as the two scents of humans reached their nose. They increased their speed, totally prepared to mow down Choppi and Cassie had it not been for B. Royale. With a roar and a great deal of bravo, the Luxray, jumping right in the path of the bull pokemon, grabbed the pokeball, Choppi by her shirt and shoved Cassie with a headbutt to push them to safety as the herd charged past in a large cloud of dust.

Moving in to do his part, Mike threw a few rocks at the edges of the group; they connected and white-hot glares were sent in his direction. The others paused and looked around, confused. Why had they stopped?

"BLEGH! Can't catch me, ya dummies!" The Ranger mocked the pokemon as Royale snuck up behind them. (After making sure Choppi and Cassie were out of harms' way) With that, Mike dashed away with a good portion of the group chasing him. The rest? Attempting to make the Luxray move so they could help turn the annoying humans to pulp.

Choppi gasped as she suddenly was sprawled across the grass, a large Luxray standing over her. It was fierce and battle ready looking, obviously take care of which showed through it’s hardy nature. “Woah, Luxray…” She murmured, and then glancing around caught sight of the running owner. The bulls were now charging after the guy and quickly gaining on him...not a good thing. A few were still trying to surround her and her Pokemon savior. Scooting back a bit, she bumped into something fuzzy. Looking over her shoulder, she spotted Cassie shaking her head as she finally stood up. Nodding to her Pokemon, she hopped up as well with determination in her eyes. It was time to stop admiring the pocket monsters, and get to work.

“Cassie! Now!” With that the Stantler took off, and racing at top speed past the Taruos drawing their attention to her. Ratting off after the Pokemon, they were soon surprised to find out that when their horns made contact with what their eyes saw, all they felt was air. Turning back, they saw the watcher upon Picasso’s back as she started to run towards the Luxray’s trainer. “Heehee.” Choppi gave them a peace sign as she giggled. Silly bulls had chased the Substitute attack, like she hoped.

Hooves planted firmly into the soil, she made no time hooking around the lead Taruos from the side, and using the ‘Me First’ move quickly was able to pass up the ‘Rage’ attack that the herd had been thrown into. Cassie and her had also been training, and a herd of wild Taruos wasn’t going to show them up, not just yet. Reaching out a hand to the male that was much faster than he looked, Choppi smiled. “Come on, grab my hand!”
