There's a squirrel in my fireplace.
... That's not a metaphor, there's just a squirrel in there.
We put in an animal trap (we have an animal trap?) but its kinda big and the squirrel set it off trying to get in. We set it up again but I see a pattern.
I'll try to take pics I guess?

Squirrels are furry little quick creatures aren't they? This would explain why shooting them with a slingshot requires skill.... (I can't do it. stare )

It's funny as hell!
Can probably be used to help in the trapping of said squirrel you're having issues with.

light a fire when you know the squirrel is in there.
make sure you set a grill up or something so it won't run into your house and set everything on fire.
and take pictures. ninja

What kind of chimney is it?
I would suggest a leaf guard (I don't know what they're really called). That'll keep the squirrel from getting back in.
I would suggest that you do that, and then have somebody clean your chimney out for you, because it sounds like the squirrel has made a nest in there. Even if you don't use your fireplace/chimney, that kind of stuff is a huge fire hazard. Before they moved out, our neighbors' chimney caught fire. The firemen said that the most common causes of house fires start in the chimney. razz

Yeah, the grate/grill/guard is broken, but its winter and icy so we are going to wait for it to be warmer to replace it and the squirrel just made some large banging noise o_O
