Preface: 000
Okay. Well. I hope this will help. This is actually the first thing of this kind that I’ve ever written so I hope it will help people out and guide them in the right direction. I’ve been wanting to write this for a while really because I’ve just noticed role players starting to slack off over time and make role playing as a whole less enjoyable. So. I hope this helps. If you see anything wrong or would like clarification on things (I know I tend to word things awkwardly sometimes) just PM me and I’ll get back to you ^_^

Introduction: 001
Welcome to your Role Playing Guide: Become a Better Role Player! This version has not been updated since posted. Otherwise, if you come back to visit this guide, keep an eye on this introduction as it will say if a certain category has been updated or added even. Please note that with this numbering system I have going on, I can have up to 9999999 parts. I don’t think I’ll need to but I have that space, better safe than sorry I guess. So. Please avoid posting on this. Just PM me your questions or comments.

GM: 002

GM – Or Godmoding. This is a big no-no kiddies. Godmoding is just what one might think it is – making your character godly. This is sometimes called Powermoding. Godmoding is simply making it so your character can do everything, be everything, and everywhere. Making them a god essentially. Doing this takes out the fun in things really. Example of GMing:

Jimmy ducks out of the way of Sally’s slap and slaps her across her cheek. Her cheek turns red from him hitting her.

Or

Jimmy knew that there was only one cure for the chicken pox: the mythical yellow and purple pansy flower that blooms once in a century. He saw it on a hilltop nearby and was able to cure himself of the chicken pox.

While both examples are amusing, they are still godmoding. For the first example, your character can’t dodge everything. They may be fast, but think of it like pokemon game terms. Even if the enemy’s evasion was high, you still could hit them occasionally. Okay? So your character can get hit. And you can’t control if the other person is hit or not. Controlling someone else’s character is probably the biggest no-no in RP history, so don’t do it. It really ticks people off!
The second example is just…You can’t pull something out of your butt. Really. Going on an adventure to find this item is a little more acceptable. Like in XII, you had to go find these berries to defeat the Guaruda that guarded the tomb and you had to go through a series of events. You can’t just happen to find things that are super rare because that just doesn’t make sense really. It’s super rare for a reason.

So things to remember:
Your character can’t do everything!
Your character can’t dodge everything!
Can’t hit everything!
Can’t find everything in a blink of an eye!
Can’t know everything!

Character Designs 003

Terms 003a

Made-Up: This term is usually used in the sense that there are set characters for a storyline (i.e Final Fantasy VII, Legend of Zelda, etc.) but for characters that RPers create to fit in the storyline. Examples some may be familiar with are Terasu and Arbalas (my made-ups).

Original: These are people who are actually in created storylines, such as Sephiroth and Cloud are originals for FFVII. Originals tend to be harder the rp, unless in an A.U environment because it is typically hard to catch their complete attitude.

A.U: Stands for Alternate Universe. Out of character rps with the original characters meaning they don’t have to have their usual attitude and thought process.

MarySue/GarySue: Perfect people. Absolutely nothing is flawed with them. Their drop dead beautiful, etc. NOTHING IS WRONG WITH THEM! Avoid making these people. They get annoying and stupid really. Everyone has flaws, even if they try to keep them hidden.

Despises – People who have everything wrong. Oh- they’re parents died and then their foster parents died and they were left to run the streets alone. Did I mention they have hideous faces and that they love the be left alone and in the dart. Yeah. Those are people who despise everything and everything’s wrong. Not everyone has everything wrong.
