Are there any kid movies that'd you never let your kids watch? I'd recently seen The Golden Compass since it came out, and there's a pretty grissly scene involving polar bears fighting. I'd been warned about it, but it was still pretty bad.

Kids movies? No, probably not. Oh wait, I wouldn't let him watch any of the Hannah Montana, High School Musical, all those obnoxious Disney stuff because they flat out annoy me. xd

Then again, I let my oldest ds watch movies that some might raise an eyebrow on. He watched Iron Man and the Dark Knight. He's never been one to get scared and everytime we ask him about it he just comments it's not real, it's fiction. I think it depends on the child.

I limit what my daughter watches only because she likes to watch them over and over and over and over... etc. We watched Baby Einstein's Baby Mozart DVD five times in a row this morning. It's only toys and small children playing put to classical music, but it gets annoying after a while.

I'm also guilty of allowing her to watch eyebrow raising things, like crime dramas I love to watch. She also recently watched all four Jaws movies with me and simply told the shark "No biting, that's bad!" >(^-^)< I have stopped letting her watch movies with excessive language because she's started to repeat certain... things...

Basically, it all depends on what the child can handle. I for example wouldn't let my nephew, who is a year older than my daughter watch the same things because he is not as mentally mature as her.

And yes, my daughter is only two, but she is way too smart for my own good.

luna: You're lucky. My kids don't realize things on tv aren't real. Like they think Dora and Diego are actual kids and want to go meet them sweatdrop And I hope my kids never get into Hannah Montana either. I think I could handle HSM, although I would be a bit freaked out if they wanted to dress up as one of the characters for Halloween. I really don't understand how there can be so much merchandise for those movies.

Kitty: Yeah, we had to stop watching CSI and just about anything on prime time. They start saying things like, "Oh no, they died! They need to go to the doctor and get all better!" rolleyes Those Baby Einstein movies are amazing. My kids still love them.

I don't show Barney or Telletubbies in my house.

With the Telletubbies it's mostly because of all the baby talk. It drives me nuts. Lily watches Sesame Street or The new Winnie the Pooh show and that's about it.

I've let my son Tristan watch the Dark Knight once or twice. He's in LOVE with Batman and he's never been one to copy anyone other than Mommy and Daddy. When he gets older and can understand a little better just how dark certain movies/shows are, I'll stop letting him watch those. Right now, all he notices are Batman, the cars, and any animals in the scenes. He only watches the 1990s cartoon--it's still dark, but it's not gruesome.

He's got this DVD called "Sparky's Big Adventure" and it is SO dark! I think it was just one of those $4 movies at Wal-Mart, but there was a car smoking and that car tried to murder Sparky to sell his parts. I gotta say I was genuinely creeped out. It's still on my DVD shelf, but it really needs to get thrown out, because there's no way I'm letting Tristan watch that. He loves cars and he'd be devestated to see one murdered. >_>

Actually, I've been leaving the TV off for most of the day to keep Tristan from watching too much of it. The weather all week has been so nice I've been letting him play on the balcony to get some air. He does watch some TV with his meals, though, cuz it gets him to park his butt and eat, LOL.

Ky can see most things, because while she gets easily scared, all I have to do is remind her it's pretend-scary. (: As for anything else, she understand that some things and words are for grown-ups only. So that's not a problem. The only thing I wonder about is if it's something she'll enjoy or not. If it's not, but she says she wants to see it, I'll tell her I don't think she'll like it, and why.

Her maturity also helps me out, because I watch a lot of things like House, NCIS, Supernatural, all that. Sometimes if she looks a little squeamish, I'll tell her how they make the effects. Like what's in fake blood and all that. Takes the fear away, and she learns something too. (:

She mostly loves Hannah Montana and other Disney stuff, though. Which I don't mind.

The only things that are banned are Max & Ruby (makes her behave very badly, don't know why) and all Bratz related things, because I don't want her idolizing prostitots. Oh, and Spongebob, but that's because I absolutely HATE that show.

Yeah, I can't stand Barney either. I really don't know why, I just can't watch that show.

Tiadaria: Max and Ruby makes her misbehave? That seems like such a cute show. I guess Max does act up a little.

Max and Ruby isn't allowed on here either. Can't stand it. Nor is Spongebob or a lot of cartoons. At this point, we're mostly concerned about language in movies as Ethan is soaking up language like a sponge and repeats everything now. Six months ago, it didn't matter. When he's a little older and can understand better, we'll let him watch more things again.

Ethan loves Pixar movies and Backyardigans, so we have quite a few of those DVDs for him. Which is good as we're disconnecting our cable again. We realized it's not worth the cost for the entertainment we're getting out of it...that and it's a bit disturbing that Ethan memorizes ad jingles after hearing them once and now I get to hear them all. the. time.

For me it's Cat in the Hat.... I'm one who enjoyed it but I was 18. I felt they could never get away with it if the Dr. Seuse (sp) himself was alive. It annoyed me that it's a "kids" movie.

Cult movies ftw

Anything that I wont watch, my little girl wont watch, until a certain age, because I dont like horror but my husband does... so we may compromise there.
