((How about some of both? >=D))

Mikaril frowned slightly, then smiled again as though a thought had come to him.
"Well, you could just be feeling your powers out, like it was with the other shop. And if they were to use scrying magic we'd probably both feel it, so if I feel something I could let you know, and then you can see if there's something beyond the ordinary lots of tingling?" Contrary to what Kyil had said, Mikaril was positive that his ability could be used, and used well; like a brand new wand, it just needed to be tested to see what it could do. If he could be blinded by the magic auras in a magic shop, if he sensed that many, even if they were the weaker auras of less-powerful items, he could hone his skill to be able to focus on feeling for a specific aura or a specific spell. He had every kind of faith in Kyil's ability, ever since he had learned that it was that same ability that had thwarted the powerful containing spell of the female at the inn.

"It's possible," Mikaril admitted at Kyil's idea of the guards searching for mages rather than ordinary thieves. "Especially since we not only selected more magical items than non-magical, and after what you did to those clothes....we might be okay so long as we don't use magic and give ourselves away. If they really do suspect mages or sorcerers, I bet they'll be feeling around for cast spells and use it to track us down." The thought made him feel better; if they stayed unnoticed, and found no cause to use magic, they could thwart the possibility of staying out all night and be back in the cave looking through their spoils before the first shop in the marketplace opened.

Just as that thought entered his mind, he heard the sound of approaching footsteps, and he immediately dropped to his knees and peered out from behind the building and into the street. He saw a drow patrol enter the street, then proceed to do a methodical search, testing doors, peering into alleys, a few even looking up at the rooftops. It seemed painfully obvious to Mikaril just who it was they were looking for. Biting back a curse, he inched back, straightened up, and turned to Kyil.
"That patrol moves faster than I thought; we had better leave this street quickly." He dashed back the way they had come, and then took a different route that lead them more in the direction of the outskirts and their cave.

As they dashed into a more deserted street, a ratty-looking drow male seemed to appear out of nowhere, casually blocking their way. "In a bit of a hurry, Master?" Fighting to urge to roll his eyes (would everyone insist on calling him that in one way or another?), Mikaril shifted his sack and drew his dagger, waving it threateningly at the sneering commoner.
"You would do well not to hinder us." Obviously thinking himself clever, the impudent drow threw his arms out wide. "Ah, but we might end up well-to-do if we DO hinder you." At that, each and every shadow in the street seemed to take the form of a drow, each armed with a weapon and each as dirty and openly scornful as the first. Apparently they thought the pair easy prey; a noble and his servant, lost in the back streets. Mikaril assured himself that when this was over, the mistake would be theirs.

Since his hands were full and he was therefore unable to sign, he tilted his head slightly to the side and whispered to Kyil out of the corner of his mouth.
"Stay behind me." Noticing that beyond Kyil's head, more thugs had closed off the street where they had come, Mikaril shifted his feet and carefully moved until their backs were to a wall. Not the wisest thing to do, but it offered him a view of every enemy, and unless one of them could walk through walls, there was little danger of an attack from behind. All they would worry about was an attack from above, but when compared to what they faced on the ground, it didn't seem like much. Mikaril moved the sack back toward Kyil and at the same time, assumed a fighting stance, slightly crouched, with his dagger out and ready to slice. Easing the sack down, he rapidly signaled to Kyil There are weapons in there; you might try to get one out and use it. As soon as he finished, the first thug lunged toward them.

((The thought of Miky waving a wand around like Harry Potter makes me giggle on the inside. XD Hows about Kyil toss him one? =3))

Kyil nodded his head in cautious agreement. "You are right Master." He murmured. "I am still learning and highly untrained. It is altogether possible I am just not skilled enough at this yet." He needed to try at least. To see if he could feel the tell tale tingle of magic. Yet a small part of him shied away from the attempt. What if he did something accidently? While they were running away this was not a good time to expirement. He ought to be practicing in a relatively safe place. Somewhere that it would not cost them their lives if something unexpected happened.

Kyil was saved having to make a descion right away though. As Mikaril continued to speak, Kyil tilted his head and listened most eagerly. "I am glad you agree. And I do hope that is the case. I would like to get back to the cave so I can start studying..."

Kyil fell silent at the tell tale sound of footsteps. He watched as Mikaril dropped to his knee's then peered around a corner. When he rose, and informed Kyil about the patrol, he felt his heart begin to race a little once more. "Yes master." He quietly whispered, then resumed tailing Mikaril through the streets.

At first, the appearance of the unkempt male did not unsettle Kyil beyond a small frown. The male hardly looked dangerouse. In fact he hardly looked like a delay. Why wasn't Mikaril simply pushing past the man? His answer came all too soon though. In the form of the gathering that ringed them. Kyil had no problem following Mika's whispered order. His wide pink eyes flickered from one individual to another. There were so many of them! How could they possibly get away?

Kyil's mind focused more on fleeing the confrontation. So when it was that Mikaril dropped his satchel and signed at him about the weapons, Kyil felt as if his mind had locked up. Weapons? Fight? He cast a lance downward at the bag with a fearfulpression, before he simply dropped the cloth bundled books atop the satchel.

There was no way that Kyil could bring himself to pck up a weapon. Not with the intention of useing it on a person! Mikaril had already been engaged by one of the thugs, and Kyil's throat constricted. he felt a wavering of emotion much like when he had witnessed the failing leap of Mikaril off the edge of the building.

His heart leapt into his throat. These men intended to kill Mikaril. Kill them both honestly. he could not just...stand there and do nothing. Mikaril had informed him before that he was to act in accordance to protect him...but what could he possibly do!?

One of the thugs had come to face him down as well. A smug looking ugly brute that seemed to be eyeing the delicate garments that Kyil was wearing with a scornful confidence. He supposed that he did not make that much of a daunting figure. His hands litterally shook as he held them before him. The thug had a nasty looking blade in his hand. The nastyness was due to the filth upon the blade, rather then the intimidation of it's edge.

When the thug darted forwards with a simple thrust, Kyil twisted his body away towards the side of the male that did not hold the blade, so that he could not sweep it in a backhand arch. Unfortunatly, his dodge seemed to be a sign for another to join the assult. Now he had two that were attempting to harm him! Kyil's features twisted in anxiety as the pair divided and began to circle him. Soon enough the whole mob was going to attack them!

Of the spells that Kyil had absorbed, he retained the knowledge to cast them all. Sadly, many seemed to need material componenets. Unlike the spell that had been cast in the females room. Unprepared for this limitation, kyil had no spell component pouch to use. There was one spell, a rather useless spell really but... It came to mind easily enough and his hand gestured fluidly as he twisted away from his second attackers dagger. This second attacker, as the dagger cut through the thin film of his top and scored a small cut along Kyil's ribs, had Kyil reach out, and lightly pat his hand upon his shoulder.

The result was a sudden flash of bright blue light. A Marking Glyph burned brightly upon the dumbfounded males shoulder, and the first that had engaged him staggered back a step in surprise. Seconds followed where no movement was made on him, and so Kyil shifted his stance closer to Mikaril, and his hand dug into his own sachel to randomly draw out a wand. Glanceing at it worriedly, he tried to call out to Mikaril. "Master can you use a wand!?"

As the thug thrust his rusty blade toward the armored thief, Mikaril stood on the balls of his feet and twisted his body to one side, ready to bring his elbow down upon the flea-bitten head and drop the thug like a broken sword. But before he could, the thug pulled back alarmingly quick and was suddenly joined by a second thug. Figuring the first one must at least have some sort of speed-enhancing gear, Mikaril pursed his lips and resumed a fighting stance. This might take a while, and with the guards close by, a while would be far too long.

He kept an eye on the two threats, who instead of advancing on him, began to circle around him to get at Kyil. He ventured a glance behind him to see what sort of weapon his friend had drawn with which to defend himself. As soon as his eyes confirmed that Kyil had pulled out nothing, he had just enough time for a look of surprise before he saw the second of the pair strike. His red eyes narrowed in anger as he saw the flash of the weapon and heard the tiny tear that confirmed the blade going past the clothes and undoubtedly gashing Kyil's skin. But before he could react in any way, he saw Kyil place a hand on the thug's shoulder, and the sudden burst of bright light caused his eyes to tear up. He heard shouts, curses and cries of pain behind him, and he was at least reassured that he had a few precious seconds where the thugs were as momentarily confused as he was.

As the seconds dragged on, Mikaril blinked rapidly to banish the painful spots that danced along his eyes, and the resulting silence caused him to hear Kyil perfectly. Squinting, he could just make out Kyil's hand holding a wand. He reached out quickly and grabbed the wand out of Kyil's hand, pointing it hurriedly at the cluster of thugs, many of which were showing signs of recovering from the flash of light. He felt the magic thrum in his hand, giving up an almost audible hum and causing his hand to vibrate. The words seemed to spring out of nowhere, and as the strange-sounding words rang out, he squeezed his eyes shut and aimed the wand outward, waving it back and forth, his entire body moving along. He heard more cries, and felt the recoil as several somethings seemed to fly out of the wand and into the confusing darkness.

As he opened his eyes, he blinked several times as he took in the scene around him. Nearly all of the thugs appeared to be lying flat on the ground, struggling with what looked like globs of gooey pale yellow webbing sticking them to the ground like webbing. He couldn't tell if all of the thugs had succumbed to the spell, but if any hadn't, they were nowhere to be found. He turned around and looked at Kyil and the marked thug, who took one look at the drow with the wand and ran off into the shadows. Shrugging, Mikaril notice that the impudent first attacker had been caught and was up to his nose in the thick yellow goo. He walked over and peered down at him, more interested in the effects of the spell than the drow encased therein. It looked for all the world as though the would-be thieves had been encased in gigantic gobs of mucus. He looked down at the wand and made a face.
"Yugh."

He turned and gestured to Kyil. "We'd better leave; if the commotion hasn't alerted the guards already, the spell most certainly did." He rushed back and grabbed the satchel, but as he made to pass by the ensnared first thug, his footsteps slowed, and he found himself once more looking down on the one who had first given them so much trouble. He winked at him and dropped the wand, letting it fall into the mucus with a squelch. With any luck, the guards would find the lot of them and think they had the very thieves they were looking for. Never mind that the wans would be the only thing found; possession was nine-tenths of the law, and guilty or not, a bit of torture would have the lot of them revealing every bit of loot they had ever stolen. Better them than him or Kyil.

With a last cheeky wave, Mikaril dashed off after Kyil, hopefully heading for the cave and safety.

He had blinded himself. Well, he had also blinded the others too. If this was going to be a constant effect of casting magic, perhaps he should invest in some sort of goggles or glasses that would protect his eyes. Or..well... perhaps if he practiced enough he would become used to the flares of light and his sight would recover more quickly. That there was a thought.

But now was not the time for thoughts. Mikaril had taken the wand from him, and Kyil thought he should be focusing on the two that had attacked him..or ...perhaps not?

The drow that he had marked, he found had fled. The glowing blue rune must have spooked him as it continued to linger. The male had no idea what it was or would do. So fleeing did seem like a good idea on his part. Sadly he would not be able to flee far enough. Kyil's lips curled into a sad smile. The mark would alert the magic shop owner to the male, making it seem as if he had been the one to first enter the shop for this nights thefts. He would have to explain this to Mikaril later and hope he had made a good choice.

Mikaril seemed to have been able to use the wand, and Kyil turned to see the spray of thick yellowish goop. His stomach rolled and protested at the disgusting display. What a awful wand! His gaze turned to Mikaril, as he explained that they needed to leave. Yes, the guards should be coming shouldn't they? Kyil paused only long enough to reclaim his bundle of books, then he was off. Running as quickly as he could.

"I used a Marking Glyph on one of those men. It was one of the protections on the door and would have marked whoever entered the shop. I am hoping the owner and the guards will follow that man instead of us now." Kyil spoke as he ran and he turned his pink eyes to glance down the street worriedly. Oh! He hoped they would make it to the cave soon! All of this fear and running was wearing on him!

As Mikaril caught up to Kyil, he nodded and smiled as his friend told him just what he had done to the male that had fled. "I actually left the wand behind, so if they catch the one you marked, finding the rest of them and the wand would seal their fate." He didn't feel a bit sorry for those they had left behind in the alley. They shouldn't have tried to stop them; it was their own fault, underestimating them. That was just the way things were in the unforgiving world; it would happen to him someday, but not today.

Once again resorting to dodging in and out of shadows and darting across streets, the pair wound their way through the city until they finally saw the outskirts and the road they had been searching for, devoid of life, much to his relief. He spotted the entrance to the cave and gestured for Kyil to enter first, opting to linger for a few minutes to make absolutely sure that they hadn't been followed. What a fine thing it would be if their hideout was discovered and compromised after all that work! It wouldn't be the first time for him, but he always hoped his luck would hold.

This time seemed to be one of those times. The minutes passed and he didn't see anyone sneaking about the way they had come, nor did he hear any noise that would be given off by a patrol. There wasn't even any magic feeling of scrying. Apparently, unless they were so unobservant that they hadn't even stumbled across the clues they had left, it appeared that the patrol had taken their bait and believed their job done. Allowing himself to smile, Mikaril turned and walked into the cave, setting the sack down and practically dropping onto the bed and positioning himself so that he was sitting cross-legged, running his fingers through his hair and smiling at Kyil.
"Nobody's followed us; I think we're in the clear. That was kind of fun, huh?"
PostPosted: Mon Mar 30, 2009 8:10 pm

Then...that would be it then. Or so Kyil would continue to hope as he kept pace with mikaril in their running. By the time they reached the lonely stretch of road outside of the city, Kyil's head was spinning from all the back allys they had used and personally he himself had been confused! He was only grateful that he only needed to follow Mikaril and not lead!

Kyil thought nothing of entering the cave first. he had merely assumed they had lost their pursuers at some point in the city. Pointedly at the spot that Mikaril had left the nasty wand with the disgustingly gooped drow. Yuck! Inwardly Kyil was pleased to have lost that particular wand. He really preferred pleasent and pretty magic items..and effects! That was one spell he would -never- use!

Kyil set his bundle down on the floor, and happily dropped down next to it. With his back to the cave wall, he was able to admire the comfortable way the cloak on his shoulders wrapped around him. Now..he ought to take stock of the spells he had stolen, and see if he had the components to cast the enchantments. Ah! And he'd have to ask Mikaril which ones he wanted...

Kyil tilted his head to look expectantly out the cave enterance and watched until it was Mikaril entered. His lips curled into a faint smile. "I rather enjoyed collecting the magic and the items in the shop..and sneaking in was a bit fun too. But I'm afraid the last bit with those thugs did not thrill me terribly. Is it always like that master? I had hoped we would get in and out un-noticed."

Mikaril shrugged happily as he began to remove his armor so that he could be more comfortable when he was sorting through the sack of stolen goods. "Sometimes; it just depends. Even with the best plans in the world, you can't completely predict what'll happen during a heist. Sometimes you do get out unnoticed, and those are the best, but I can honestly say this isn't the worst I've been in. Neither of us were caught, or jailed, or seriously injured-" He broke off suddenly as the last of his armor fell to the floor of the cave, remembering the slash that Kyil had taken before marking the unsuspecting thug with the incriminating rune. "Hey, didn't you take a scratch back there? I think we'd better look at it; thse weapons those drow had looked as though they hadn't seen a decent cleaning for years."

He reached into his cloak and pulled out a small pouch that contained a pretty basic selection of first aid items; one never knew when a bandage or just a clean cloth and a bit of medicine would be the difference between being able to pull off another heist the very next day, or even the next hour. He figured this would be a perfect way to n** his last failure in the bud by showing Kyil that the best thing to do when one was injured, be it a mortal injury or the slightest scratch, was to not keep it to yourself and make it known. At that moment, Kyil preceded any other concern; their being followed, their newly acquired loot, and any plans that might lead to their creating a gang.

Kyil placed the books before him in a neat pile, then began to add to it the few other books he had placed in his satchel. He had three in his bag, and had carried four more in his arms. Was that enough? Worriedly he glanced over the books. He probably should have grabbed more. But it was terribly hard to know which books he had needed! At least in the begining. Well..perhaps they would thieve another store that had magic arcana knowledge. Then he could add more books to his pile.

"I understand. We can't just expect guards to conviently decide not to cross our paths and shop owners to polietly look the other way while we help ourselves." Kyil responded with a slightly cheerful tone. His cheerfulness died away however. Mikaril had recalled the earlier events concerning the thugs and while Kyil had forgotten about the cut, it seemed Mikaril certainly had not. Kyil pulled the edge of his cloak back and peered down at his side. The blade had cut through the fabric, much to his dismay, and left a shallow cut. Blood had stained the pink material, and had begun to clot up upon his skin.

"Well it was only a slight scratch master. It hardly seemed worth worrying about..." Kyil casually replied. Though he did nothing to hinder Mikaril as he came over with his things to treat the wound.

Mikaril failed to supress a chuckle at Kyil's words. "Well, wasn't it less than a fortnight ago that I had gotten the smallest p***k of the finger and waved it off as nothing? Better to be safe than dead; that's something I'm never forgetting again." That being said, he sat down on his knees beside Kyil and carefully pulled back the torn fabric to examine the shallow gash. He looked genuinely sad that the pink outfit had been ruined, but perhaps Kyil could sew it back? Mikaril had never even had to use the needle in his first aid kit, to say nothing of mending clothes.

Still, he found cause to breathe easier. The cut didn't seem to show any sign of being inflicted by a poisonous blade; the skin wasn't overly discolored, and the blood seemed to be clotting normally; not continuing to bleed or showing any otehr outward signs of being more than just a simple cut. He rummaged through the small kit and pulled out a clean scrap of cloth and a tiny vial of something that looked like dark wine. Uncorking the bottle, he splashed the contents onto the cloth and held it up to Kyil's side.
"This is probably going to sting, but that's how you know it's working. There doesn't seem to be any indication that it's more than just a scratch. It probably won't even scar."

He finished and sat back, placing the kit discreetly back into his cloak. "Best to let it air out; it'll help speed the healing process, especially on shallow cuts like that." He beamed at Kyil. "I'd say this was a pretty successful heist. We may not be able to takle the credit for it on the surface, but down in the slums where those few remaining thugs hide, word will spread quickly, and right now, that's the perfect start."
PostPosted: Tue Mar 31, 2009 7:25 pm

Kyil felt rather foolish as he sat and allowed Mikaril to look at his scratch. Well, perhaps this is how Mikaril had felt over that little pin p***k? "And I believe I understand your feelings in reguarding what seems like so inconsequencial of a wound." Kyil responded.

For the next few moments he sat still, with only a slight hiss of pain at the dabbing of the strange dark liquid.. It really did not take Mikaril all that long to proclaim the scratch as nothing to worry about. Though, he did take heed to Mikaril's words and he unfastened the cloak. Allowing it to merely slip off his shoulders, he pulled the blooded top over his head and set it to the side.

"I wish we had more of those magical bags. I will have to keep an eye out for them in the future. Though I have discovered something unfortunate." Kyil spoke as he pulled the spell component items out of his bag and laid them on the ground around him. "I must have the items used to cast the spells I have stolen. But the good news is..I think I have a lot of the items I need in order to enchant our clothing."

And now, Kyil glanced at Mikaril with a curious glance. "A perfect start? Is it? How is this a good start? I'm a bit confused really."

Looking for all the world like an eager young child, Mikaril shifted himself until he sat cross-legged in front of Kyil, ebony hands clutching his ankle, his entire body almost moving back and forth in his apparent cheer. "It's simple really. We've gained items like those magical bags that are sure to aid us in future endeavors, discovered the location of a fabulous building that, if our luck continues to hold, will continue to remain empty and may prove useful later on, plundered a magic shop classy enough to have a selection of everything from wands to tomes to magical clothes, successfully avoided capture by a seasoned drow patrol, and now we have not only escaped and laid the blame on someone else, but the thugs who bore witness to our fight will pass the story along, and there it will spread. We now have a good start to our funds, the means to strengthen our defenses and attacks, and our reputation is off to a good start. The only casualty so far has been your shirt; I sincerely hope that you might be able to mend it...."

His face brightened with realization. "Those spells you pulled off of the clothes at the magic shop! Maybe one of them might help; a spell that mends clothes as soon as they are torn, or perhaps in one of the books you brought there would be a practical spell for mending fabrics. I find it hard to believe that any self-respecting wizard would settle for mending his own clothes with his hands should the need arise." He looked down at a fold of his cloak that had draped itself over his knee. It was definitely beginning to show signs of use after being worn so often in the Underdark; threads were poking out around the edges, and there were shadows of stains that try as he might he just couldn't get out with regular washing. He looked at it, then back up at Kyil. "Just what sort of spells DID you glean from those robes? Would there be any you might cast on the both of us, for extra protection? Anything that might give us an edge." He really hoped that Kyil would have something that would ensure his cloak would still be of service to him for many more years. Even moreso than his satchel, it was the only thing he had on his person that had sentimental value.

Having Mikaril excitedly explain things to him caused Kyil to pick up on the excitement as well. His own eyed widened as he listened, and a happy little smile curled his lips.

"Ah. I think I see now. Then yes, this all does seem like a very good start." Looking around at the books, Kyil plucked what seemed to be a slimmer and perhaps easier to read tome.

"I can browse these books for ideas on magical spells for certain. Though in the mean time...yes. I did pick up a good many interesting enchantments. There were a few that seemed to reinforce the cloth. Making it stronger magically. I think that enchanetment would be put to good use. Ah! And I have a invisibility enchantment and a levitation enchantment. There is also one that I recall as being called Spider Climb that seems interesting as well."

There were a few more enchantments as well of course, and he would eagerly explain to Mikaril what each one could do. After that, it would merely be the pleasent task of deciding which garments recieved the enchantments...and the actual casting! Practice! Something that Kyil had been wanting to do since he had discovered his gift. Cheerfully Kyil began to pull the components from his bag and he set to his task with much enthusasim.
