Haleriun's fingertips twitched softly before his hands clenched into gentle fists, gilded lilac eyes watching the ground for a brief moment before he glanced up at his older sister, and then toward his guardian, who was petting his hair in a way he assumed was meant to be comforting. All it was doing was putting the little boy more on-edge. As such, he glared up at the man, who quickly pulled his hand away, shrugging and frowning a bit. Hale tugged at the little earpiece he was wearing, pulling the magnets away from each other and filling his ears with a white noise that bordered on painful. He didn't even wince at this before yanking the implant off the side of his head and out of his ear, creating a static-y noise, before complete silence flooded his consciousness. He couldn't even hear the elevator that the three were standing inside of anymore.
A tremble wracked his small body. No matter how used to it he was slowly becoming, it was still scary to think that he couldn't hear on his own. He almost jumped when Noah took his hand and led him from the elevator down the hall, knocking at a door partway down it. Said door was opened by a technicolor cornsnake, which made Hale's eyes widen abruptly, before he hid behind his guardian, trembling just a bit, the outer portion of his implant held tightly in one of his small fists. The two adults seemed to share a short conversation, before the cornsnake shortened himself, extending a hand toward Hale. Looking up with fearful eyes, he took the man's hand, and watched his guardian walk off without a backward glance while he was pulled inside. He waved to his older sister, who waved back with a kind smile. At least she still cared about him.
Truth be told, this was the first time in a really long time that he'd been at this apartment. Wide eyes stared up at the man who was supposedly his mother, and his tail wrapped tightly around the lower part of his body as the snake spoke, as though believing that he could still hear. Noah had told him earlier that he was supposed to be meeting his sister for the first time in memory, but he wasn't completely sure that he'd really wanted to. Instead of listening to his protests, Noah had let him wear one of Adhara's dresses -one of the old sundresses that was covered in large orange and white dots- and had hauled him over here anyway. All that was going on now, however, was that he was being talked at by his mother, whom he didn't even remember. He hated being deaf... all the time.

Corentine slithered quietly behind the strangely-colored man that she lived with, keeping her eyes focusing stubbornly on the floor in front of her as she repetitively tipped a pink ball filled with glitter from one hand to the other. The small child in the man's arms was chattering quietly at him, but the young hybrid tuned out the pointless babble. That boy was nice enough, but sometimes wouldn't be quiet. Coren didn't know if she liked him or not. Her eyes watched the pink glitter swish back and forth obsessively, fascinated by the never-ending patterns that it formed.
The autistic girl was so hypnotized by her toy that she failed to notice that her foster father had stopped walking, and consequently bumped into his legs. She squeaked quietly, which was as close to talking as she ever really got, and peered around her guardian's legs curiously, wondering what the obstruction was. It turned out to be a tall furred rat-thing with a mask, someone her guardian introduced to her as her father. Coren blinked at this information, utterly confused. How could she possibly have two fathers?
However, because this confusion never showed on her face or was put into words, neither Silas nor Deux saw it, and passed the small girl over without a second thought. The rat-man looked down at Coren with purple-y eyes for a second, then held out his hand. The girl blinked at the hand for a few seconds, then shook her head quickly, her red curls bouncing furiously. Clutching at her ball protectively, she kept her head down the entire walk to the apartment, not listening to the man's blather. She might look a little like him, but she still didn't think he was her father. And whoever they might be going to meet probably weren't her family, either. Families lived together, after all, and Coren lived with the striped man and the kid with a wing. So they were her family. Simple as that.

Hale didn't even respond to whatever it is the cornsnake was saying as he messed around with a few little things here-and-there. They were dressed in similar clothing and all, both with bright coloured dresses, though Haleriun definitely won the contrast contest; this man who was his supposed 'mother' was brightly coloured enough as it was, and too easily matched clothing that was just as bright as he was. Hale, however, was almost-black in colour, and when he wore vibrant shades of colour, he definitely stood out quite a bit.
Finally getting bored of listening the disturbingly absolute silence in his head, he wrapped the implant around one of his ears, wincing for the noise he knew was going to come. He nearly shrieked at the high-pitched whining that came from the device, making the cornsnake wince, and Hale ended up curled in a ball on the sofa.
"'Aley, are jou okaiy?" the man asked sweetly, though his voice was difficult to discern through the cloudy static. No less, the little boy still didn't completely understand how to make out what the words, themselves, really were. The tip of his tail twitched slightly as his mother pet his hair comfortingly, though definitely looked nervous about it. It was apparently that he wasn't completely sure what to do with the little deaf boy, and as soon as his mate walked through the door, he was at it with a bright smile on his face, leaning up to give the other a kiss on the cheek before looking down at the little girl he'd brought with him, slipping down to about her level and smiling softly. "'Ello zhere, Corentine."

Corentine looked around the apartment with disinterested eyes, only looking up for a few seconds before deciding that her attention was better focused on her toy. That is, until a really, really bright snake bent down and spoke to her in odd-sounding words. Not odd in the way the rat-thing's sounded; these were more... gentle. More like her striped daddy. Because of that, although she didn't convey it, Coren was automatically more taken with the snake, so much that she actually responded directly to his query. Even if it was only with a shrug and a small twiddle of the fingers, it was more than her new father had gotten out of her the entire way to the apartment.
As this fascinating exchange was going on, the 'rat-thing', who incidentally went by the name of Deux, noticed the black ball of hybrid that was curled up on his couch. Assuming this was his son Haleriun, he walked over and bent down until he was eye-to-eye with the other, much like his mate was with their daughter. A mildly concerned expression on his face, he glanced at the hearing implant nervously, then made sure the little boy was watching him and spoke clearly. "'Ey, are yah doin' okay tharr?"
It was only after Deux spoke that Corentine noticed the other toddler in the room, and she looked at the bright snake with a mildly curious expression, pointing at the bundled Hale; her way of asking a question.

This was so strange; they were meeting their children... as though they were completely unrelated to them! It was completely ridiculous. God, Trois would have given anything if they didn't have to abide by the same stupid law that the rest of their race was stuck following; needing to give up their children to those stupid humans! He avoided sighing at all, smiling faintly at the shrug he was given, albeit a bit nervously. He'd been told, of course, about the problems of their children. 'Course... no one had told him that one of them had been taken from the hospital. They claimed that the third that had lived through the birthing process had died from later complications.
But, that aside, at least they had these two, right? Even if they weren't perfect by any means. One deaf, one autistic... no! He wouldn't think like that. They both were fine children. And that was when the little girl pointed toward Hale. Jaded eyes blinked a few times, before he gave a weak quirk of the lips. "'E should be okaiy," Trois said sweetly, moving a bit to lean against the door beside the little girl, wrapping his tail around himself as he usually did when sitting down. "So... Coren. 'Ow do jou like jou'ar new- er, well, jou'ar 'ome?"
Hale blinked a few times, the patterns that he'd accidentally pressed into his eyes slowly fading away. As soon as that was gone, there was another person in front of him, and for a very brief moment, he thought that he was looking into a mirror. One of his ears flicked back a bit, and he leaned forward, bracing himself on the couch from falling, so that he could poke the other gently in the forehead, at the top of his mask, before he gently traced around it, and poked himself in the forehead, but didn't trace his own. "Uazzk," he said, before feeling the scaled across his face, the skin underneath turning a deep shade of red as he sunk into himself. 'Mask'. He couldn't say the work 'mask'.

Coren blinked at the snake's question, not knowing how to approach it. She didn't know it was possible to like an inanimate object. Would it like you back if you told it you did? Would it only work for you, and disregard anything or anyone else? Would it follow you when you left and make it so things were okay? Curious at these tangents, the girl glanced down at her ball, switching it from one hand to the other again. Did she like her ball? No; she needed her ball. It wasn't there because she simply liked it. It was there because the world would start to hurt if it wasn't.
Bright violet eyes glanced around the shabby apartment a second, before they went back to the ground and she shook her head softly. One of her curls bounced in between her glasses and her face, and she swatted at it irritably, growling and squeaking when she accidentally hit her nose with her ball. Stupid hair and it's having to exist, it's need to be all over everywhere all the time.
Deux smiled almost sadly at his son's actions, for they meant more than the small boy knew. Or hopefully would ever know. Yes, that mask meant they were related; they were blood. It overshadowed Hale's coloring that was nothing like Trois' or his own, or the way that he looked from the back like someone Deux had hated enough to kill. That mask meant that he was his son, and his alone. With his furred thumb and finger, the ferret traced the small golden mask on his son's face easily. "Yep. We both gaht owrselves ah mahsk, 'ale. Yah like et, right?"

Trois blinked his eyes in surprise at the reply from his little girl, peering at her curiously, the tip of his tail flicking in a childish manner- one of many juvenile habits he'd never really gotten over in his life. He couldn't help the fact that he finally took a moment to observe the girl's appearance, though much of it he didn't even understand. So, she had his hair- that was a definite. But the curls... were not his, in case that wasn't obvious. The eyes were her father's, and the colour of her scales also belonged to Deux. The scales themselves, Trois' once again. The other, though... God, it almost hurt to look at him, which only hurt Trois even further in the process. That b*****d had made it painful for him to look at his own son. God, what was wrong with this stupid world?!
"Jou don't? U'ell, sat's not a good sing," he commented in a bit of surprise, ignoring the thoughts that had polluted his mind only a moment ago. 'Course, she was autistic. He didn't really understand the way that her mind worked yet. "I mean... do jou like jour family? Zhe man w'o takes care of jou? Ah... Silas, oui?"
Haleriun giggled at the fact that his father could trace both halves of his mask so easily, which made him smile brightly, scales smoothing out once again, embarrassment of the moment completely forgotten. "Ee-ah!" Hale replied jerkily, grinning happily at his father, showing off the baby fangs he'd inherited also from his mother, though they lacked the deadly poison that his sister carried. He bit his lip and thought for a moment, before he finally decided to attempt the question that he wanted to ask in reply, peering up at his father with wide eyes, their colouration a direct mix of his mother's and father's eyes.
"Y-yew la-aaaike yyeeer's, tuuuu, ra-ight?" he asked with a deep level of concentration, before smiling at his dad for the answer, the tip of his furry tail flicking around a bit.

Corentine glared at the colorful snake when he said that what she felt wasn't a good thing, but not as harshly as she could have. It didn't matter if it was a 'good thing' or not; that was her opinion, which is what the other had asked for. 'Stupid,' she thought bitterly to herself. When the other asked if she liked Silas the Skunk, the girl looked down, watching the glitter in her ball settle for almost a full minute before shrugging. Most of the questions other people asked her were answered in that way, since she never really felt anything about anyone. There were just okay, or not. Pointing at the rat-thing, she looked up at Trois curiously, wondering if he liked him.
Deux smiled almost in relief as his son laughed, thankful that he hadn't said anything wrong. He was still totally stabbing in the dark when it came to this parenting thing, and was more or less just going with what he felt was right. He, after all, hadn't had any parents to raise him, so he had no idea if he was doing it right or not. But apparently his instincts were good, because laughing was happening. And laughing was practically universally good. He scoffed in response to his son's question, which gave him time to translate it, and ruffled his hair affectionately. "Ah cawrse Ah doo. A mahsk es pracatally dah best thing sahmeone cahn 'ave. Ah've met peeople who 'er jealous dat dey don't 'have one."

Trois blinked in surprise a couple times, tipping his head a bit. Why exactly was this girl glaring...? Ah, whatever. He still wasn't completely up-to-date on this whole 'autism' thing. He'd been looking through books for a while now, trying to find out more information about it, but he'd been in Ialu for a long time now; as such, he hadn't read in a while, and was much slower than he had been previously. He was rather glad for the fact that they're children were living in different houses, as insensitive as that may sound, given the fact that he wasn't fit for teaching toddlers or soon-to-be-children how to read, and Deux couldn't read for the life of him. Together, they really weren't ready for parenting.
Corentine pointed toward Deux, and jade eyes slowly followed her finger to the tip and then past, eyes settling on his mate and a gentle smile coming to his face. Given he'd been asking if she liked certain aspects of her life, he assumed that she was asking the same thing, but regarding the ferret instead, in his own life. The amelanistic snake chuckled softly under his breath, letting his eyes fall once more on the girl. "Oui. Zhough it may not zeem like it in most situations, Iy'm az in love with 'im as Iy evar was, zhough Iy don't know if 'e would say zheh same about moi," he noted, a dusting of humor tracing over his words, though sadness certainly accented the former portion of his speech. Even today, he was astounded that Deux somehow managed to stay with him...
Haleriun giggled at the ruffling to his ragamuffin hair, a trait that was so heavily reliant on his father's it was scary. He tried to push it back down, but it remained sticking up at a few awkward angles. He giggled softly, even his laughter an awkward, loud noise, obvious that he couldn't sense what was a comfortable volume with his current... predicament. He could hear to a point, yes, but his own volume was more of an internal sort of thing and, given his hearing aid was external, it didn't help much.
"Izzz'iff-er-ent," Hale stated curiously, pointing toward his mask, then toward Deux's, obviously already getting a handle on the idea that his communication was done better with his hands than with his voice. Slowly, he tipped his head to the side, a thought occurring to him that he had never, well, thought about before.
"D-add-ee?" he asked, needing to sound out the word. He was definitely glad for that part; that he didn't have to call Noah his father like Adhara and Aludra were forced to do, given he actually got to see his like this. As such, Deux got the special title of 'daddy'. "Uw-ai c'n I not hee-aar, but pee-ple like yew'n'mommy c'n hee-aar?"

Corentine nodded once, looking at her glitter ball instead of the colorsnake, the slightest of smiles creasing onto her face, showing a pointed fang. That made sense... somehow. However, at a moment's thought, she looked back up at Trois, making a vaguely disgusted face. Why did the pretty snake like the rat-thing? That... okay, her brain had been stupid again. That one liking the other one made no sense at all. After all, Trois talked all pretty, and the rat-thing talked all stupid. There was no way that they should like each other all... That would just be... stupid. She glared at her twirling glitter ball. She hated people, and their confusing.
Deux laughed along with his son, wincing lightly at the uncomfortable volume. "Yehp, certahnleh defferen', all rahg'," he chuckled, stroking his new son's mask affectionately with his thumb.
At the question, he blinked in surprise, before chuckling awkwardly as he tried to remember the answer. Around the time when the two children were newborns, he had both been too angry and too hopped up on nicotine patches to remember much. After looking towards Trois for help, then glaring at him when none came, he smiled nervously at Haleriun. "Weel, ah, son, when yah werr a lil' one, yah got reallah seck, and, uh, weel, inside ah yer brarian got so hawt tha' th' bets tha' mahke yah hearr got all, ah, sca-rahmablehed up. 'N so... yah." He smilied nervously, and petted Hale's hair once again, hoping he wasn't laying it all too thick. Like he knew anything about parenting, anyways.
