User ImageAlmost as though mocking her thoughts a few nights earlier, there was no moon to light the way for those who lived for the night, and Dwenna found that she really didn't mind. The dark was as cool a caress as the gentle breeze that occasionally danced by, tossing her dark hair about like some plaything. She'd woken, of all places, high above the rookery and far from her own personal dwelling. It was a night she'd decided to have for herself, staying away from humans and the complications of socializing or even sharing the same breathing space with them. Plus the whole forest fire incident...she really hoped nobody else got in trouble over that. Guilt was not something she cared to feel.

But being alone left her with her own thoughts, and the lonely feelings were starting to come back. Maybe she would feel better if she interacted more with her brothers and sisters, after all. They'd be hard pressed to come this high, especially without the aid of currents, but that meant going down, and being at the mercy of whoever she did run into. Well, she couldn't have her way all the time, right? (Admitting it aloud was another thing entirely, but hey.)

Stretching as far as she could, Dwenna glanced below her, glad she did not have the human fear of heights, and snorted at the thought. A gargoyle? Afraid of heights? She should be smited for such ridiculous thoughts. Laughing softly, she let her wings extend and dropped, wondering whose path hers would intertwine with this night.

Daralis was standing on the top of a very large tree not far from the rookery. She had slept in her den but the first place she always went to after waking was to the trees. She loved being in them and learning what she could by watching and investigating them. she looked about as the cool breeze blew her hair in her face. She closed her eyes and growled a little as it stung her eyes. She pushed it out of her face and turned away from the wind, looking around to see if any of her brothers or sisters were about for her to interact with. She loved being around others, though she hadn't had too much human interaction. She loved all her brothers and sisters and loved to be with them, but not many of them liked to be this close to the trees. She spared her wings and gripped the tree with her toes as she closed her eyes and enjoyed the feeling of the wind filling her wings and blowing her hair about. When it died down again she pushed her hair back out of her face and looked towards the sky at the moonless night.

Dwenna landed somewhere near the outcroppings of a clearing between the forest and mountains, alone except for the softly singing crickets and occasional glimmering eyes that belonged to the night's wildlife. She side, gazing up at the dark sky, and wondered where her kin were. By now, she normally would have spotted someone, but it was as though everyone were avoiding her. Life was such a mockery at times. If nothing else, maybe she'd find Alister and see if he was up to any of his normal pranks. Anything was better than the utter stillness that surrounded her. Tonight, she wanted exactly what she wasn't getting.

Her wanderings took her into the forest, when a light breeze revealed bits of a garlet purple beyond the green leaves. Wrapping her wings about her like a cloak, Dwenna leaned back against the trunk of a nearby tree and closed her eyes. This one did not smell like a Child of Oberon, though they were certainly tricksters. But no, this...this felt closer to home.

"Lovely night, isn't it?" she greeted softly.

Daralis looked around a little more at the pretty star constellations and then watched an owll take off in the distance. Daralis heard something below her and tilted her head and looked down at the other female who had found her. "Oh hello sister." she said with a smile. She wrapped her wings around her, protecting them from the branches, and jumped down to join her on the ground. She had seen this female around but she couldn't remember her name. "I think i've seen you around before, I'm Daralis. I don't know if i ever caught your name." she said with a smile as she pushed her hair back a little.

Dwenna chuckled softly and smiled at her fellow sister, bowing slightly in her direction. This one must spend much time around humans, to naturally assume that she had a name to go by other than what she normally did. She was a pretty thing, and though she could remember socializing with her a couple of times before, it wasn't often enough for her to remember some of the more important details, which made her feel sad. Was it just the case with this one gargoyle, or was Dwenna actually losing touch with her brothers and sisters?

"It is a pleasure, Sister...Daralis." The name came smoothly enough, but the realization that she was learning more and more names because of the unnatural need to name each other was a little overwhelming. Oh well, sometimes one had to adapt to survive. Hadn't she?

"They call me Dwenna," she offered. Quirks or no, it felt good to be around her own kind again, though she was quickly learning that she had to remember how to interact with them. Their ways, which once flowed from her so naturally, now seemed to stutter at times.

"I hope I did not disturb any desired solitude."

Daralis smiled and shook her head. "No. I'm alone alot though i don't want to be. Its nice to meet you as well Dwenna." she said as she looked at her sister. She remembered seeing her around before and talking to her a little bit. She was pretty so Daralis was sad that she had forgotten who she was. She pushed her hair back as the wind picked up again. "What brings you out here?" she asked. Not many others ventured out here into the trees so she was surprised but glad to have someone out her with her. She tightened her wings about her hoping that the wind would die down soon. It was hard to study the living plants when they were being blown about and ripped apart.

Dwenna enjoyed the sense she was getting from her fellow sister, the calm and gentle greeting, the smile, the way her blue-violet tresses blew about haphazardly...it was like a reminder of what they were. Beings of peace, floating along the breezes of fate and able of breaking the visage of serenity.

"Seeking company, I suppose," Dwenna admitted almost sheepishly. I seem to be a bit of a living paradox at the moment, and thought company might pull me out of whatever thoughts have kept me adrift lately." She glanced around them, still very at ease, for once. "The forest has brought me much trouble of late, to tell the truth, yet I still find myself returning. It is peaceful tonight." For once. "Maybe that is why. Yourself?" She closed her eyes as the wind picked up, enjoying the cool air on her hard skin as the leaves above them rustled.

Daralis smiled and looked around at the trees. "I come here every night to learn about the forest and all the plants in it. I like to see them all and try and figure out what all is growing here." she said with a smile as she walked into the forest slowly, hoping that Dwenna would follow. "I have been trying to learn to draw so i can keep my own personal journal. And when i learn how to write i'll add words but for now i'm just trying to learn from them." she said as she looked over her shoulder at Dwenna.

Dwenna had, admittedly, not taken much thought to the plant life around her. Certainly, she knew some things from hunting and needing to know simple medicines on the fly for those few times she'd let herself get hurt while hunting, or taking care of humans, but she'd focused her attentions as a warrior, a hunter, and not on the more detailed knowledge of the world around them. Listening to Daralis made her feel sort of sheepish about it, and she followed the other gargoyle, interested in what she had to say. An owl hooted softly overhead as the breeze died down, reminding Dwenna of the nightlife around them.

"Drawing?" she asked curiously. "Who's been teaching you?" And to learn to read and write? This one was very ambitious. Dwenna hoped she was doing well, because it was something that was considered a luxury, and she didn't now many who pursued it.

She smiled. "I've been teaching my self really. I've talked to a few elders of our kind and they have given me helpful hints as well as the parchment and lead i need to draw. So i've just been taking bits of plants home and working on making my drawing look like the plants i bring home." she said with a smile. "After i get it down to where they look nice i'll ask smeone to help me work on writing. I don't know any of it yet though." she said as she looked at Dwenna and lead her into the forest. "I love the forest at this time of night, though i wish there was some moon here..." She said with a sigh.

Dwenna merely nodded as Daralis explained her desire to learn, content to merely listen at the time and smiling as she did so. She’d had ambitions like that once, though for something entirely different. But that didn’t mean she was oblivious to how her sister must feel.

“It feels like a lifetime since I’ve seen but the full or waxing moon,“ she relented. Glancing up at the mention of no moon, she had to agree: some light wouldn’t be too bad. Her gaze returned to her sister. “I imagine it’s much harder with no light to see what plants you have. If it does not upset you, I would like to see your drawings sometime.” She'd spent enough time in the forest of late that she actually wouldn't mind seeing the mountains or the lake a little more often, but that was just her. It was hard to ride on night winds when they were blockaded by the treetops.

Daralis smiled. "You would really like to see my drawings?" she asked softly as she held her hair back as the wind blew softly. "And I try to only draw when i have a good moon, and if its in the light it helps. Sometimes i'll take them to the lake and sit in the moon light to draw them. Would you like to see the lake?" She asked. The lake in the middle of the forest was her favorite part of the forest, it was open and had lots of large rocks around the edge of the water and the lake was deep enough so that she could swim in it on the warm nights.

"Of course I would like to see them." Dwenna blinked in surprise at Daralis's enthusiasm, momentarily taken aback. Why did she seem so concious about it? Was she just now learning? It made no sense, but she smiled for her sister's sake, anyway.

"The lake is a nice place," she agreed with a nod, looking up at the moon as she tried to imagine the purple gargoyle sketching and studying by it. Truth be told, Dwenna had recently had more than her heart's desire of time spent down at the lake, but she didn't want to seem rude. "Perhaps we could go for a swim. Others may be there."

Daralis smiled. She was glad that she had made a friend with one of her sisters. She hadn't had a chance to talk to some of them very much, the ones she had made friends with had moved on to different parts of the area. She turned towards the lake and smiled, "This way." she said, "And i hope theres more there, i haven't seen many there when i've been there. Do you have lots of them come by when you get there?" she asked Dwenna as they walked towards the lake.

Dwenna nodded as Daralis pointed out the lake, letting her wings stretch halfway and working out a kink in her neck as they walked. It was nice to have another friend, she decided, though part of her was somewhat intimidated. What if this gargoyle was smarter than she was in areas she shouldn't be? Plants were one thing - Dwenna had devoted a lot of time as a hunter and warrior - but what if Daralis was one of those indescribably smart clansmen? Would she think she was talking to a rock?

The mental pun made her wince slighlty.

"There have been others," she said with a fond little smile. Like the night she'd ran into Alister. That had been entertaining. "Not always many, but some." She pulled her wings in sliglty, the twigs slapping out at her wings somewhat annoying.
