Daddy Touched Me

Lucius couldn't help but perk at the mention of his bowstring. It was, after all, what he needed to become a true hunter. At least in his mind. "Man, wait until I tell Nyxa about THIS." He anticipated going into great depth the sights and sounds of the first kill he'd been on, and if something made Nyxa squirm, that made Luc a happy boy indeed.

Though the nausea had passed, Luc watched almost in awe as Osero picked up the buck. The deer might not've been as large as others wandering the woods, it still had to be pretty heavy and that show of strength impressed Luc.

"Yeah, we should go back I guess." Luc cleared his throat and watched Osero, his chest puffing out the slightest. "I'm kinda hungry again." Except not really. He'd recovered quickly, but his determination to appear unfazed by the death of the deer was obvious.

Osero had a feeling that Lucius would be fine. "Alright. Let's go then." The return was a little slower going than when they arrived. The deer was heavy, and Osero had to stop every so often to adjust the weight. That was the only problem with making large kills - transporting them back.

By the time they reached the village, Osero was breathing hard. It was a relief to be able to put down the buck. Stopping to catch his breath, he smiled at Lucius.

"It'll take a few days until your bowstring is ready. The tendons need quite a lot of work before they'll be able to be used." Pausing, he sat down on one of the benches around his cabin.

"What did you think of being a hunter, then?" he asked.

Hopping along beside Osero, Luc fairly strutted back into the settlement. You never knew when someone was watching. He'd pause each time by Osero's side as the other hunter needed to stop and rearrange the kill, but move along when the pace was resumed.

Lucius offered Osero a rare smile of his own, "You gon' lemme know when yer done? I will come back and we can string 'er up, huh?" Not really expecting an answer, Luc hopped away from Osero a few feet. He was never known for being patient, but such is the way with most children.

"Thanks for takin' me out t'day, Osero. I gotta run home!" Without waiting for a reply, the boy was off, tearing down the path to his own cabin.

Some time later...

Osero
The morning breeze was refreshingly cool as Osero padded quietly down the path. It would be a warm day later, but the sun was only just beginning to rise just now.

As usual, the tall Aerandir was carrying his two-pronged spear, the shaft resting on one shoulder. Various bits and pieces hung from his wide, woven belt, including a couple of pouches, a small folded net and a sheathed hunting knife.

Approaching the house, Osero quickly spotted the young Aerandir sitting alertly on the step. He was certainly eager. The wolf-eagle Aerandir smiled faintly, lifting his free hand to wave to Lucius.

"Morning Lucius. Ready to go?"

At the sound of Osero's voice, Luc hopped up and tore down the path to Osero. "Yeh, been ready." Impatient, eager, ready and raring to go, the youth clasped his bow tighter to his skinny body and rocked onto the balls of his feet. "What we huntin' t'day, Osero? Someplace diff'rent?" It didn't matter to Luc one way or the other, really, Luc was just ready to hit the road in hopes that their hunt this time around would be as successful as their last one was.

"Good. Let's get going right away then." The tall Aerandir smiled, turning to head to the northern end of the village. At Lucius' question, Osero turned his head back to look at him. "We'll be hunting in the woods again, as that's where most of the game is. There's better hunting there."

Moving quietly, the hunter slipped past the shrubs and trees that marked the fringe of the wood. Hopefully, he could locate a good trail early on so that he could give Lucius a bit of practice in tracking.

Sure enough, it did not take long for the seasoned hunter to find what he was looking for. Imprinted in the mud among the fallen leaves was the fresh mark of a deer hoof. Osero motioned for Lucius to come and see. Pointing to the mark, he asked quietly.

"Do you remember that from before?"
