Shadow waddles around the streets of Katarina with a very frightened expression. Her trainer had forced her to wander for at least a few hours everyday - "It'll help you grow a backbone!" Her owner had said, leaving the Piplup very confused. Shadow was quite sure she had a spine.
At the first day the Piplup was fearful that she had been abandoned and stood stiff in the spot Luna had left her for hours until the trainer came back. Relief washed over shadow as the Piplup knew she wouldn't be abandoned like some other less fortunate pokemon.
From then on Shadow had taken baby steps in exploration. She hadn't gotten very far yet - she usually kept close to the docks where Luna met her everyday. But today she would take one step further and peek at the various stalls that her trainer was always curious about.
Spotting a gleaming object on top of a nearby stall, Shadow gave into her curiosity and wandered closer to inspect what the object was. The piplup had no idea that up above was a weapon's dealer who was having a sales talk with a suspicious looking civilian.

Unbeknown to Shadow, another pokemon was window shopping, one could say as the blue-ish strolled down the street around the corner.
Quintrell wasn't too fond of suburb life but his trainer, Kayla, had to stop in Katarina to get some supplies and revitalize some of the other pokemon. Quintrell would rather stick to the wilderness where cleaner water and air was.
The vaporeon hadn't been in many battles as of late and was fortunate enough to be allowed to venture off on his own, on the condition of returning by nightfall.
As Quin turned the corner and onto the docks, the vaporeon noticed a piplup inching its way towards the stalls that was usually not someplace a pokemon should be wandering into.
Curious, Quin followed the piplup at a safe distance just in case it didn't appreciate the intrusion. He wasn't usually this 'shady'. As he got closer, something in him was warning him away from this place. Something was not right and that piplup was walking right into it. Everything in him was screaming, "Get out of here!"
His senses now on full alert, quicken his pace as to get the other pokemon and try to warn it before something horrible happens.Quote: Urgh. My RPing skills suck today. =__=

((You just need some warmup :3 ))
Shadow let out a small squeek when she heard Quin's warning. The small piplup's head veered in all directions to try to spot the danger but the oblivious piplup didn't notice anything. "Huh? Wha-"
The question was abruptly interrupted by yelling from the stall owner who had noticed the ruckus. Naturally a paranoid fellow, the owner started to accuse his customer of breaking the "deal" and bringing a pokemon with him. He went onward in his paranoia-inspired monologue about how the customer was probably plotting to take his wares by force while the customer snapped right back at the owner that the piplup was most definately not his.
Amidst this argument, Shadow stood frozen in fear. She absolutely hated it when humans argued, it always led to bad things. And she was right. Finally having enough of the situation, the shop owner took a specially marked knife from his wares and threw it at the piplup.

As Quintrell predicted, this was turning from bad to worse. In result of his shout, the humans were getting more agitated by the second when they realized two pokemon was within earshot of their conversation.
Quintrell eyes could not stay focused on one thing. It shifted from the human argued between each other and the frighten piplup, who Quin soon realized was female.
"Miss! You must get out of here! It is not safe!" Quintrell tried to jerk the little lady out of her frighten state but no good. It was kind of ironic that a ice pokemon to be 'frozen' whether it is literally or metaphorically. In either case, Quintrell, being the gentleman as he was, must do something to help the poor little lady.
Before Quintrell could take a step towards the piplup, one of the humans grabbed a weapon and threw at the other pokemon.
It was as if time had slowed down. Quintrell's heart was in his throat, in horror. The knife was already out of the human's hand and going straight for Shadow. All Quintrell could do was shout "NO!" and without thinking of himself, he lept towards the penguin pokemon and shoved it aside and taken the blade in his hip.
Quintrell screamed as the dagger pierced his flesh.
Time had resumed it's normal speed as Quintrell crashed into some boxes with the knife still inbedded in his right hip. His only thought was for Shadow, hoping she was alright.
Quintrell was still conscious as he tried to get up but only to have his limbs give out on him with the weight of the boxes and his injury. With all his concentration, Quin tried to listen to hear if Shadow was still alive, if not well.

With her eyes widened, Shadow could only stare in horror as the vaporeon pushed her back to take the full blow of the sharp metal object. She was snapped out of her dazed state when she heard the vapreon crash land in some crates which, fortunately, were empty.
It was only Luna's advice that kept Shadow at a mildly calm state through the next few minutes.
Tip number one: Assess the situation and stay calm.
Shadow glanced around the area, noticing that several other stall owners had noticed what the weapons dealer had done. The Piplup wasn't completely stupid, she knew that injuring a pokemon out of battle was against Zatao laws because she had seen a group of kids get yelled at from her trainer about it.
The other shop owners would probably stop the weapons dealer, but a massive battle could break out in the process and that wouldn't be good because Shadow definitely did not want the vapreon that saved her to be injured.
Tip number two: ...Shadow realized that Luna did not tell her tip number two yet - she had gotten distracted by some random challenger approaching her. Darn.
The Piplup settled for rushing to the Vaporeon's side, letting out several concerned chirps. "A-are you alright?"
Flashes of light illuminated the area Shadow had just fled from as several large, final-stage pokemon crowded the narrow marketplace lane. Shadow really wished her trainer and her teammates were there. She was sure they could handle this situation but she definitely couldn't! It was obvious the piplup was distressed.

Relief flowed throughout Quintrell's body as he heard the piplup's chirping worry. Even though, the danger wasn't completely over, it was one less thing Quin had to worry about.
He looked up at the still frighten but worried Piplup and attempted a smile but it was weak at best. "A-re you okay, Miss? I didn't hurt you, did I?" Like a gentleman, his thoughts were about her first before his own. Quin was not self-sacrificing type but he would always put a lady first before his own.
Quintrell did not want to be rude by ignoring her questioning. "I believe I am alright." However, as the words left his mouth, Quintrell winced in pain as he attempted again to get up. Sighing. "Well, perhaps not so alright."
Suddenly, his attention shifted as he realized there were flashing light getting more clearer and define. Rescue was on their way.
In the mist of all this action, Quin had not managed to get the piplup's name. In any other normal time, it would shame him for being so rude. "My apologies. I would not be this rude if things were not so dire but my name is Quintrell. Others often shorten it and call me Quin." Quintrell tried to keep things light to sooth the frighten lines around the other pokemon's eyes. "What might your name be, Miss?"

For a moment Shadow's worries and fears completely vanished when Quin asked her her name. Perhaps she was relieved the vaporeon was okay or perhaps it was because Shadow really couldn't handle a high level of stress. Whatever the reason, Shadow's mind seemed to have blanked out and a much more cheerful look came back onto her face.
With a small bow, Shadow replied with a courteous "Shadow! It's nice to meet Quin!"
But the conclusions were short lived because a flamethrower attack soon soared over their heads. The other shop owners had forgotten the pokemon were at the scene.

Crap! Making a half strength attempt to sheild Shadow from the battle that was taking place not too far from them, Quintrell spoke him a slightly pained hush tone. "This might not be a good time to get aquinted but we must leave this place."
Quintrell tried one more time to get up but only managing to keep himself upright. His injured hip would not allow much movement without a sharp pain to his side that forced him to rest on his hunches. "Damn." He muttered under his breath.
Sighing, Quin looked sadly slightly down at Shadow. "I am afraid I cannot leave here right now. I must rest." Quintrell gently pushed Shadow towards the exit that wasn't in view of the fueding humans. "Save yourself. I'll be alright. My trainer will find me."
Once agian, Quintrell did not want to worry Shadow any more than necessary. He knows Kayla will find it but how soon was the question.

Shadow was the type of pokemon who was afraid of even her own shadow, but she was also type that would never leave behind a friend. The piplup's fur bristled, letting out a firm "No!"
With that said, Shadow took a seat to the side of Quin's face and started to lightly pet the vaporeon's fur. "My trainer is here too...We'll wait, together." Besides, two heads were better than one, right?
As she delicately stroked the uninjured parts of Quin's body (she knew some of her other teammates liked it), Shadow narrowly parted her beak to let out a steady stream of mist into the atmosphere. Soon, the mist grew thick around the two, creating a fortress of solitude around them and severely confusing the other residents of the town.
Shadow knew her physical attacks weren't too strong, but she was positive she could hold up this mist attack long enough for her trainer to identify it. Hopefully. Luna was awfully dense, probably more dense than the mist she had created.

Quin's was startled a little at the conviction of her refusal to leave him by himself. He marveled at Shadow as she patted his shoulder lightly as she was trying to reassure HIM.
Very touched by this, Quintrell smiled warmly. "Well, alright. If the lady insist..." He had never met another pokemon as sweet as Shadow. Sure, others were kind but none at the genuine heart like she did.
With what little energy Quintrell had, he used Helping Hand to assist Shadow, creating the mist more thicker than one pokemon can produce.
Panting slightly, Quintrell slowly laid down and rested his head next to Shadow. The would was still gushing out blood but at a slow pace. His body was already trying to stop the blooding as it clots but the wound was deep. Every movement jarred the knife a little, sending sharp pains through Quin causing him to wince. He refuse to voice his pain, not wanting to worry Shadow more.
Without them realizing it, the wound was already collecting invading bacteria as they waited for help to arrive.

Usually, the duties of protecting a town fell to a gym leader but in the thick mist, no one could even find the town gym leader. Luna, unfortunately, was dozing off on a nice nap with Nine curled up around her and was completely oblivious to the strong mist attack. The mesmerizing heat of the fire pokemon sucked away any will for the trainer to get up and notice the thick mist that caused confusion all over Katarina.
Nine, with her heightened instincts, did detect the attack but decided against waking the trainer up. So the mist continued and Shadow and Quintrell had to continue alone.
But the two weren't fairing too well alone as the infection took a toll on Quintrell. Shadow could already tell the signs of it - she lived in a family of professional breeders and healers and had seen pokemon in all conditions come and go from the house. Even though she was highly confident in her skills, she decided that she needed to try anyways. Seeing her savior fight the pain made the Piplup feel extremely guilty.
Although she couldn't use any of those fancy machines that the humans used nor obtain one, Shadow had learned the art of berry treatment from her previous owner and taken some tidbits from Nine. The ninetales had even been nice enough to give her a sitrus berry which Luna had tied to her leg in case she ran into any trouble. It would be put to good use.
Shadow carefully snapped the string that tied the berry to her leg with her beak and held it to the vapreon's mouth. "I-if you recover your energy with this, Shadow will take you to a safer place..." The piplup offered, reverting back to her shy way of addressing herself in third person.
