At the base of a large, rather foreboding looking cliff, Malycia laid at the mouth of her small cave. Above, the looming rocks cast a long shadow, but she made no move to remedy the cold chill of her body. In fact, this was her element, her time. The winter, cold, dead, and lifeless, was the season she enjoyed the most. Narrowed eyes cast a gaze along the close treeline that surrounded the half-circle clearing she called home. It had been a long time since anything had disturbed the solitary nature of this place. Once, long ago, a foolish male had found his way here. Breaking him and bearing his child for her own selfish gain, she'd found herself completely contented with the domineering life she'd led. Until, that is, the day he'd attempted a late night escape with their little gray cub on his back. She'd noticed, of course, and bloodied him quite well before he finally managed to get away. What a pity.

Now, with the passage of time, even the little woodland creatures had learned to stay wary and away. Before that, carcasses of birds, squirrels, and even foxes littered the treeline as a reminder of what could easily happen to invaders of her territory. Now there was nothing but the treeline itself and the strange silence that seemed to permeate the area, even in this generally quiet time of winter. Well, whatever. The aging female was fine with it.

"Ah, what a wonderful day!" the gray and violet-coated kylan murmured excitedly to himself as he moved along under the trees. He always took pleasure in the simple things; a songbird's melody, the sound of a flowing stream, a walk through the woods on a cool, clear morning. Anything bright or beautiful always pleased him, no matter what. So what if others called him a weakling, a romantic? There was no problem with that... right?

Faeron, the clan leader, had told him to refrain from traveling too far from the large, old oak that was the center of their territory. But Amore couldn't help his adventurous heart. It was something that he had possessed ever since he was a cub--but he had also never been a very strong-willed kylan. His sisters and brothers had always tricked him into doing bad things, or getting lost. Sure, he hated it, but what was he to do? Better that he find his peace with the beauty of nature and forget the evil in the world. Besides, there was nothing that could go wrong. He just kept telling himself those reassuring words.

Amore didn't notice that the forest around him grew oddly quiet the further he traveled, and that small bones littered the ground in strange places. He didn't notice the foreboding cliff, looming high above the thinning treetops above him. And he definitely didn't notice the bright flash of bright white fur, straight ahead at the base of the stone face, and how it was somehow engulfed in a dangerous aura. No, he didn't notice any of these, because there was no way that anything would ever go wrong in his world...

A while more of scanning satisfied her enough. The line hadn't been breached yet. Setting her head on her paws, she shut her sharp eyes and let out an unguarded yawn. It was fine if something decided to enter the area, she just wanted to know. After all, how was she to punish the trespassers if she didn't? A bit more time passed with the same nothingness as usual, a fact that left closed eyes growing heavier with impending sleep. However, even resting, Malycia was a very hard one to catch off guard.

Eyes clenched tighter and large ears flicked knowingly. Something was close, making noise just nearby. Lifting her head from her paws and re-scanning, she happened to notice the unknowing intruder. Just at the edge of the trees and right at her front, he was becoming slowly visible. The shape was familiar, one she hadn't fully beheld in a long time. A terrible smile stretched her maw momentarily before fading as soon as it had come. "Oh..." she called out, sure her new company could hear with the slight echos the rocks caused, though that was really all she had to say for now. Standing, she set a paw forward, feigning interested surprise quite well.

Amore was pulled back to reality as he heard a voice not too far ahead of him. His ears perked, and he paused momentarily. A fleeing thought crossed his mind: 'Could it be... danger?' But he threw it away as soon as it came, for there, not twenty feet ahead of him, was one of the most beautiful creatures he had ever seen.

"Hello there!" he called out joyously, stepping forward from the ring of trees. He was oblivious to his surroundings; if there were bones on the ground, then, well, she must certainly had not been involved. And the silence of the forest... that must simply be the fact that she liked peaceful dwellings. Yes, that was it.

He stopped about midway to her den, keeping a respectful distance, as his mother had always taught him. She seemed surprised to see him. Perhaps she was a shy type, like him? Ooh, what luck he had stumbled upon!

"Sorry if I've intruded, but I'm glad to have seen you. My name is Amore. Pleased to meet you!" he greeted in a cheerful voice, a bright smile upon his face.

This one... He seemed pretty happy. She smiled in a friendly manner, closing the gap between them, while looking appreciative that he'd allowed her to do so rather than getting too close. This one would be fun to play with. "Hello," she responded in greeting, nodding her head slightly. But really, she did always wonder why strangers were inclined to step up to the first Kylan they saw and introduce themselves. After all, who know what sort of personality they were getting themselves involved with.

"It's alright, it's refreshing to see a new face around here," she assured, surprisingly feeling that a bit of the refreshment rang true. However, all of the gentleness of her voice was feigned. She was slightly out of practice, but that didn't slow her down in the least. "I am Malycia."

Glancing around for a second, she thought to ask him something important. "You don't happen to live around here, do you?" It could be annoying if a possible family member happened to come poking their nose in her business.

"Malycia..." he breathed, letting the name roll over his tongue. Strange, he hadn't heard a name like that before... but oh well, the rarer, the better! "That's a nice name. And no, I don't live around here, but then again, I didn't really keep track of how far I went. I... I think I might be lost. Good thing I found you, right?"

He stepped forward, his eyes shifting to gaze at the surroundings. Secluded and a bit gloomy, but who was he to judge? His head rose as he scanned the rock cliff, and his chest tightened just the slightest. Height... something he could never stand, ever since his youth, when one of his friends had gotten him stuck in a tree. He couldn't even watch the winged kylans of his clan fly around without feeling somewhat queasy.

"So..." he started, breaking the sudden silence, "what made you want to live...here?" He tried to keep his voice as polite as possible, but couldn't help a bit of unpleasantness to creep into it.

Lost? Haha, she liked the sound of that. At least that way, he'd be harder to find for any potential family members. This boy would come to understand the dangers of being so careless. "Why thank you," she responded with a sheepish smile. "But it is just a name..." Shaking her head, she let the expression slip into something more comfortably friendly. "Yes, I guess that is pretty good luck. I know my way around this area well." It had taken her a long time of wandering many, many years ago for her to find such a wonderful place to call home. Glancing around momentarily, it almost seemed she was making sure no one else was finding their way here, too.

Of course, she was slightly caught off guard by his next question. "Oh..." the word seemed drawn out. "Well- You don't like it here?" she asked, feigning an almost upset feeling. "I guess I just think it's nice..." purposeful hesitation entered her voice with each passing word. "It's quiet here and comfortable. But I don't get too many visitors, either..."

"Oh, I--I didn't mean it in a bad way!" Amore exclaimed, afraid that he had upset Malycia. He never meant to upset or hurt anyone; that's why he always tried to be so kind, and why he hardly ever expressed his opinion. It was simply in his nature to please, and take no pleasure in return. Of course, he never minded if someone took the time to be kind to him... like Malycia.

"Well, I can understand the quietness being preferable. Society doesn't seem to get along with me these days," he mumbled, smiling hopelessly. It was true, that whenever he was around others, he was manipulated, embarrassed, and controlled. It's not like he would do anything to stop it, but it did hit a nerve once in a while. It bothered him, to know that he could be tricked so easily. But Faeron always said that kindness was most important, for that would be the first thing people noticed about you. So, as always, Amore lived by his words.

"Well, seeing as I'm here, how about I play the part of the visitor? We can share fun stories!" he said excitedly, and then flinched as his stomach growled angrily. "And, uh... perhaps we can also eat something?"

"It's alright," she assured, letting out a relieved laugh. At least he had apologized. If she had been anyone else, it definitely would've earned him brownie points. This place, the place she'd chosen as home, was one of the few things she truly liked. Upon hearing his next confession, however, she canted her head. "Oh, I'm sorry to hear that," she said, brows furrowing in a worried manner. "You seem like such a nice person. I don't think it's hard at all to get along with you." Smiling gently, she raised a paw to pat his shoulder. It was a bit awkward at first. It had been a long time since her paws as touched anything with anything other than inflicting pain in mind.

Letting out a little laugh, she nodded. "Well, you are a visitor, right? I'd love to hear some stories about where you come from. Maybe I'll even be able to recognize where you're talking about." A look of surprise lit her features as his stomach spoke up angrily before she could continue. "Ha, of course. What sounds good to you? We'll see what we can find."
