Kind of a strange phenomenon that occurs in kick boxing and now is kind of common in MMA competitions because of the common nature of the fights. hideous leg breaks!

So As I keep seeing these more and more I just gotta wonder. How common is this? How the hell does this happen? also, what are the best ways to avoid breaking your damn leg on another dudes?!.

so freaking gross it gives me goose bumps

I would assume the reason for the break is improper training and continual weakening to the leg from the stress of blows from previous fights and training, plus the most common thing about these, are that they are being broken on the leg which has a very small concentrated area on the leg when delivering the blow thus the snapped leg XD

Yeah I guess I could see the improper training factor. I mean I didn't really hear about this at all when i was doing Thai boxing. I would imagine that something was left behind in training when that aspect of striking was brought into MMA from kick/Thai boxing. Or it always has been a common thing and I haven't been seeing it until now that these fights have become mainstream, but even still I didn't see it that often in K1 either. hmmm......

Also take note that these breaks occur when the opponent blocks the kick. So maybe just bad timing or form? still pretty baffling that it seems to happen so easily .

I never seen it happen in a muay thai match by actual muay thai fighters, but when I see MMA guys do it, it's like every other match, I think they may be sacrificing form, for power not realizing the consequences.

You mean once every couple thousand of matches or so?

Anyway, MT fighters tend to not really go balls to the wall, since they fight for like 4000 baht every other weekend, and if they go that hard, their body wouldn't stand up to the rigors.

Lol I wouldn't know the rigors a real muay thai fighter presents himself opposed to an MMA fighter, but I can deffinately say those breaks wouldn't happen if the fighter's kick was proper, but it may also be the fact of the block, which would mean the true intention to this leg block is in fact to break the opponents leg, which means in a fight it probably shouldn't be used XD
